Senator Allen was appointed and then elected to serve in the Arizona State Senate in 2008. After serving two terms, she was elected to the Navajo County, Arizona, Board of Supervisors. She then returned to the Senate in 2015 where she continues to serve today.
Currently, Senator Allen serves as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Education, a position she has held since 2016. She has also served three terms as Senate President Pro Tempore.

Senator Allen is currently serving and has previously served on the following Senate Committees: Education; Health and Human Services; Water and Agriculture; Natural Resources and Energy; Appropriations; Rural Affairs; Government
Senator Allen lives in Snowflake, a small town in the White Mountains of Arizona, with her husband Richard. They have five married children and 19 grandchildren. She was born in Arizona and has deep family roots in the White Mountains. She is a retired real estate agent, and she and her husband are former small business owners.
