With my VA card, I can walk into any VA medical center in the country and have access to world class integrated health care designed specifically for me, a veteran.
But Donald Trump and some of his ultra-conservative allies in Congress want to privatize that care and turn it into a voucher system. It's a move that would amount little more than a massive redistribution of wealth from the American taxpayer who help fund veterans' health care to some of the richest health care executives in the world.
This issue hasn't come up yet in Congress, but it will. And when it does, we need them to know that the American people -- and especially veterans -- are OPPOSED to any legislation that would privatize veterans' health care.

Pentagon Spends $2.7 Billion on Balloons But Can’t Afford Veterans Care
The Army's billion-dollar surveillance blimp became untethered today and is floating aimlessly over the country. Not to worry, the military sent a squadron of billion-dollar jets to retrieve it. Meanwhile below the clouds, roads and bridges are decrepit and schools are overcrowded for lack of funds. Anyone who thinks a revolution isn't necessary needs to have their head examined.
Pentagon Spends $2.7 Billion on Balloons But Can’t Afford Veterans
You may have never heard of JLENS, but you have been paying for it for the last eighteen years.
The $2.7 billion surveillance program, which was originally slated to be a fleet of blimps used to watch people and vehicles across America, is just the latest in a series of Pentagon boondoggles that allocated tax-payer dollars to weapons manufacturers. And if you are thinking that sounds like a ridiculous amount of money to spend on balloons with cameras attached, you would be correct.
The enormous investment used to spy on the tax payers whose money was spent to develop JLENS has been a seemingly never-ending comedy of errors. Due to a string of operational failures and the predictable “cost overruns,” the program, which was supposed to include 35 blimps scattered throughout the country to watch Americans from sea to shining sea, ended up producing just two units.
That’s almost $1.4 billion per blimp.
But after almost two decades, the JLENS system was released, and promptly failed in epic fashion.
Earlier this year Douglas Hughes, a Florida postal worker flew a single-seat mini helicopter over the restricted airspace of Washington DC and landed on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. As part of the flight plan filed by Hughes, the FAA and multiple military organizations knew before he took off that his flight would pass directly under one of the two JLENS blimps which are stationed in the airspace between Baltimore and DC.
Yet, even with the advanced notice, the JLENS failed to detect or report Hughes’ flight. Raytheon, the manufacturer of the failed $2.7 billion system has asserted that the system is proven, capable, and ready to be deployed. But tax payers, and a mailman with a homemade helicopter would beg to differ.
In an unrelated story, Congress recently pushed though a spending appropriation for the Department of Veterans Affairs which included a funding shortfall of $1.4 billion…or the cost of one blimp.

Republicans Plan To Harm Disabled Veterans And The Troops With Default

Ways and Means Democrats are sounding the alarm on yet another Republican debt ceiling game of chicken with its head cut off (that would be the Republicans, running around blindly and hysterically in circles, pretending they haven’t lost their heads). Yes, that’s right, tomorrow is the day they vote on their “China First” bill (H.R. 692), which is basically a plan to default on America but pay China.
Wave that flag.
Guess who will get screwed by Republicans? The Ways and Means Democrats warn the following might be defaulted on:
· Pay and benefits for 1.4 million active duty troops and 827,000 troops in reserves
· Benefits to almost 4 million disabled veterans who served their country with honor and now need our help to live
· Payment for health care for nearly 5.9 million veterans cared for at VA hospitals and health centers
· Education assistance for nearly 1.1 million veterans
· Home loan support for nearly 630,000 million veterans
· Earned payments to American small businesses, who earned more than $91 billion dollars for goods and services rendered last year, and used those dollars to support more than 550,000 jobs
· Payments to nearly 1 million doctors and other health care practitioners who provided health care to Medicare beneficiaries
· Payments to schools for nutritious meals – 30.5 million children participated in the school lunch program
· Payments to almost 50,000 National Institutes of Health grantees, who are conducting life-saving medical research and providing an estimated 300,000 jobs
The Treasury Department concurred, so it’s not just partisan fears (of course, Wall Street is shaking as Republicans take them to the brink again, and even the Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal is also terrified, so definitely not just Democrats who are alarmed), “Prioritizing principal and interest would mean paying some of our creditors – many of whom are foreign institutions – while defaulting on across-the-board payments everywhere else. That would include payments to members of the military, veterans, and senior citizens. It would include payments on infrastructure projects. In this scenario that America defaults on its obligations, there would be no way to prevent significant disruptions and hardship for millions of Americans. Default would undermine confidence in the creditworthiness of the United States.”
Significant hardship is coming once again to Americans, courtesy of the same party that brought them the 2007 recession and 2008 great wipe out of their savings and retirement accounts. For what reason? Oh, just Republicans wishing they could defund the surest way to reduce the abortion rate because socking it to women is worth cratering the economy once again.
Republicans say this is about “spending”, but of course, the spending has already happened, what they are doing is refusing to pay for what they bought. And also, spending under Obama has only gone up 7.9%, which is not very much.
Would any sane person consider giving Republicans the White House again? George W Bush cratered the economy, and now Republicans are cutting holes in the rescue boat, tossing the life preservers over the side — not even saving any for their own. They’ve become total jihadists, out to get America no matter what.
PLEASE consider this the next time a Tea Bagger wants to repeal Obamacare!

What we have witnessed is Voter Purges, the current Racist Alabama Fiasco, Voter Intimidation [Republicans have done it in Massachusetts], Bogus Voter Machines, Lost Ballots, Polling Stations that are closed with no public announcement, inadequate parking, inadequate staffing causing LONG LINES, return of Jim Crow Laws.....need I go on?
During one election, far more Republican Voters cast ballots in several Democratic District than there were total residents.
Republicans have thrown up obstacles to PREVENT PEOPLE FROM VOTING and to prevent legitimate elections.
