As Social Security and Medicare Go Bankrupt, US Gives $10.5 Million a DAY to Israel

THEFREETHOUGHTPROJECT.COM
While the United States gives Israel around $10.5 million a day, reports indicate that Social Security and Medicare funds will soon be depleted.

As the United States government admits that Social Security and Medicare services are going bankrupt and will both be completely depleted within the next 16 years, American taxpayers are giving around $10.5 million to a close ally that is routinely accused of human rights violations.
The latest report from the Social Security Administration revealed that Social Security funds will be depleted by 2034, and Medicare funds will be depleted by 2026—three years earlier than what was last reported. Last year, Social Security and Medicare funds accounted for 42 percent of federal program expenditures, and as the report noted:
“BOTH SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE FACE LONG-TERM FINANCING SHORTFALLS UNDER CURRENTLY SCHEDULED BENEFITS AND FINANCING. LAWMAKERS HAVE A BROAD CONTINUUM OF POLICY OPTIONS THAT WOULD CLOSE OR REDUCE THE LONG-TERM FINANCING SHORTFALL OF BOTH PROGRAMS. THE TRUSTEES RECOMMEND THAT LAWMAKERS TAKE ACTION SOONER RATHER THAN LATER TO ADDRESS THESE SHORTFALLS SO THAT A BROADER RANGE OF SOLUTIONS CAN BE CONSIDERED AND MORE TIME WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PHASE IN CHANGES WHILE GIVING THE PUBLIC ADEQUATE TIME TO PREPARE. EARLIER ACTION WILL ALSO HELP ELECTED OFFICIALS MINIMIZE ADVERSE IMPACTS ON VULNERABLE POPULATIONS, INCLUDING LOWER-INCOME WORKERS AND PEOPLE ALREADY DEPENDENT ON PROGRAM BENEFITS.”
While the increased reduction in Social Security and Medicare funds can be blamed on the federal government, it is not the only area where government spending should warrant serious concern. In December 2010, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that federal debt held by the public was more than $9 trillion or 62 percent of GDP.
The federal debt held by the public is now $16 trillion or 78 percent of GDP, and the latest projections from the CBO show that it is estimated to increase to $29 trillion or 96 percent of GDP by 2028, which would mark “the largest since 1946 and well more than twice the average over the past five decades.”
As the Foundation for Economic Education reported, while the government continues to spend money it does not have as if there are no consequences, it has gotten to the point where it seems unlikely that the debt will ever be paid back:
“A FAIR AMOUNT OF THIS TROUBLE CAN BE LAID AT THE FEET OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND ITS SEEMINGLY INSATIABLE HABIT OF SPENDING MONEY IT DOESN’T HAVE. IT’S GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT THERE ISN’T REALLY ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD THAT HAS THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THE US GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO BORROW. IT SEEMED SO EASY TO JUST TAKE THAT MONEY FROM THE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE TRUSTS AT THE TIME, BUT WITH FEDERAL SPENDING NOW HIGHER THAN IT’S EVER BEEN (REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU ADJUST FOR INFLATION OR SIMPLY COUNT IT AS A PERCENTAGE OF GDP), IT SEEMS VERY UNLIKELY THAT THAT MONEY WILL—OR EVEN CAN—EVER BE PAID BACK.”
While the U.S. government’s failure to take care of its citizens may be viewed as a good thing because it lets them turn to solutions in the private sector to solve their problems, the government is still robbing citizens through taxes, and making it look as if it will benefit them in the long run through programs such as Social Security and Medicare.
In reality, the federal government is using the money it extorts from citizens to fund endless wars in the Middle East—with the price tag for the longest war in U.S. history costing double the estimate of what it would cost to end homelessness in the U.S. annually in 2018. Millions of taxpayer dollars are also being spent on questionable foreign aid programs, such as the United States’ increasing pledges of military aid to Israel.
Former President Obama set the record by pledging $3.8 billion to Israel every year for the next 10 years in 2016, with the largest military aid deal in U.S. history. President Trump increased the amount by pledging an additional $75 million in 2018, while Americans suffering from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey begged for aid.
The United States’ commitment to Israel has stayed the same, even as Israel was caught opening fire on peaceful protesters near their border fence in Gaza, killing dozens and injuring thousands. While other countries accused Israel of war crimes and called for an investigation, the U.S. blatantly ignored the atrocities.
If countries such as Syria, Russia, or Iran, were targeting civilians in the same way that Israel is, the United States would be calling for a full-scale invasion. Instead, the U.S. continues to condone the country’s treatment of Palestinian civilians by sending Israel $10.5 million a day—even when Americans are in desperate need—all while the president in office gained support by promising to put “America First.”

The War on BDS: How Israel’s Agenda Became a US Priority

Christo Meyer shared a link to the group: BDS Israel.

This coming Monday, our country (the USA) is supposedly celebrating the memory and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr who advocated for, and demonstrated the utility of peaceful methods of protest - especially the use of boycotts to raise awareness of political and civil inequities. I hope my fellow American citizens recognize the hypocrisy demonstrated by our current President and national legislators who have shown an eagerness to outlaw the use of boycotts to draw attention to the mistreatment of the Palestinian people by the racist Israeli government. The global BDS (Boycott, Divest, and Sanction) movement is attempting to peacefully educate the world in order to cause civil changes within the homeland of these Palestinian people, just as the previous anti-apartheid boycott movement pressured the South African government to finally restore civil and democratic rights to the majority black African population within that nation's borders. Sadly, almost all of our American political class has succumbed to pressure from the extremely strong and global, pro-Israeli lobby. This is evidenced by our national politicians eagerness to attend and speak at the annual Israeli lobby's (AIPAC) convention. Do we see our politicians from both major political parties rushing to attend conventions organized to support any other nation in the world? This sycophantic support is further evidenced by Israel annually being awarded the greatest amount of foreign aid that these politicians dispense despite its small size, economic prosperity, and complete lack of value to the American citizenry. (And despite existing American laws that forbid any U.S. foreign aid distribution to country's maintaining nuclear weapons that fail to sign the nuclear non-proliferation agreement.) If you value being an American citizen, I hope you will reject voting for any politician that is so beholden to a foreign country that they will try to tell us who we can and cannot boycott. This coming Monday, our country (the USA) is supposedly celebrating the memory and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr who advocated for, and demonstrated the utility of peaceful methods of protest - especially the use of boycotts to raise awareness of political and civil inequities. Cheered on by AIPAC and other pro-Israel lobbies, the US Congress is now leading Israel's war on Palestinians and their supporters.

The War on BDS: How Israel’s Agenda Became a US Priority

The Israeli-US war declared on the Palestinian boycott movement is coming to a head, culminating in a well-orchestrated effort aimed at suffocating any form of tangible protest of the ongoing Israeli colonization of Palestine.
But an Israeli ‘victory’, even with blind US government support, is still too elusive if at all guaranteed. Killing unarmed protesters at the fence separating besieged Gaza from Israel is often whitewashed as Israel ‘defending itself’. However, legislating unconstitutional laws against the rights of ordinary people to boycott a state that practices war crimes might not be an easy endeavor.
The fact that 26 US states have already passed legislation or some form of condemnation of the civil act of boycott, as championed in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) should, in fact, raise more awareness of the iniquitous Israeli influence on the United States, rather than actually thwarting BDS.

The US Senate first bill of 2019 (S.B.1) titled: “Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act of 2019” called on state and local governments to withhold contracts from any individual or business entity that boycotts Israel.
The bill was defeated, which is a promising sign. However, it must be noted as profound, if not altogether outrageous, that a country that is subsisting in a government shutdown and political crisis would find it both compelling and necessary to push for such a law in defense of a foreign country.
The bill will reappear again, of course. Alas, Americans should now get used to the idea that Israel’s priorities, however skewed and irrational in defense of its illegal military occupation of Palestine, will become the main rally cry for the US government for years to come.
While such a notion has proved true in the past, never before did ordinary Americans find themselves the main target in the political agenda of the far-right government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Even the mere protest of this agenda is being shunned. Iconic US civil rights activist, Angela Davis, 74, deservingly celebrated for her contribution to American society for decades, was denied an award by the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute because of her defense of Palestinians and support of BDS.
This witch-hunt, which has now reached the most admired intellectuals of American society is affecting ordinary citizens everywhere as well, which is an alarming development in Israel’s unchecked power in the United States.
But how did Israel and its supporters acquire such disproportionate influence over the US government and society as a whole?
In short, the Lobby.
Cheered on by American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and other pro-Israel lobbies, the US Congress is now leading the Israeli war on Palestinians and their supporters. In the process, they are attempting to demolish the very core of American democratic values.
The build-up to this particular battle, which will certainly be accentuated in 2019, began when AIPAC declared in its “2017 Lobbying Agenda” (PDF) that criminalizing the boycott of Israel is a top priority.
Cuomo | BDS | Israel

The US Congress, which has historically proven subservient to the Israeli government and its lobbies, enthusiastically embraced AIPAC’s efforts. This resulted in the Senate Bill S.720, also known as the “Anti-Israel Boycott Act”, which aimed to ban the boycott of Israel and its illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian West Bank.
The bill almost immediately gained the support of 48 Senators and 234 House members. Unsurprisingly, it was drafted mostly by AIPAC itself.
Punishment for those who violate the proposed law ranged from $250,000 to $1 million and 10 years imprisonment.
Anti-Palestinian measures in the US are nothing new. In fact, ardent support for Israel and the complete disregard for Palestinians is the only aspect which Democrats and Republicans have in common. It will remain to be seen if the inclusion of progressive and Muslim women in this current House lineup will change or at least challenge that reality.
For now, the sad truth is that the very individuals who were meant to guard the Constitution are the ones openly violating it. The First Amendment to the US Constitution has been the pillar in defense of the people’s right to free speech, freedom of the press, “the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”.
This right has, however, often been curtailed when it applies to Israel. The Center for Constitutional Rights refers to this fact as “The Palestine Exception“.
Dire as it may seem, there is something positive in this. For many years, it has been wrongly perceived that Israel’s solicitation of American support against Palestinians and Arabs is by no means a foreign country meddling or interfering in the US political system or undermining US democracy.
However, the “Israel Anti-Boycott Act” is the most egregious of such interventions, for it strikes down the First Amendment, the very foundation of American democracy, by using America’s own legislators as its executors.
But none of this will succeed because simply put, noble ideas cannot be defeated.
Moreover, for Israel, this is a new kind of battle, one which it is foolishly attempting to fight using the traditional tactics of threats and intimidation and backed by blind US support.
The more the lobby tries to defeat BDS the more it exposes itself and its stranglehold on the American government and media.
Israel is no student of history. It has learned nothing from the experience of the anti-Apartheid struggle in South Africa. It is no surprise that Israel remained the last supporter of the Apartheid regime in that country before it fell.
For true champions of human rights, regardless of their race, religion or citizenship, this is their moment as no meaningful change ever occurs without people being united in struggle and sacrifice.

It's time to STOP KILLING!

This is not the way to PEACE

The rest of the world has condemned Israel's actions.

How do you defend settling someone else's land?
How do you defend using US cluster bombs against civilians?
How do you defend shooting and killing unarmed children simply because they're throwing rocks? Is this some kind of adolescent play for Israel?

It's time for Israel to MAKE PEACE!

Israel is the largest US Foreign Aid recipient.

Regardless of your position or the details, it's time to STOP KILLING!

Obama Could Stop Israeli State Terror with One Phone Call He Won’t Make

Washington supports ongoing Israeli violence against defenseless Palestinians. It wouldn’t be happening otherwise.
One phone call from Obama to Netanyahu demanding an immediate halt to Israeli lawlessness, making it clear Washington won’t tolerate it, would change everything now ongoing.
It continues because of full US support. Don’t let duplicitous comments from John Kerry’s State Department spokesman, Admiral John Kirby, fool you – claiming Kerry “remain(s) deeply concerned by the continued escalated violence.”
At the same time, revealing Washington’s official policy by “condemning the (Palestinian) terrorists attacks against Israelis.”
White House press secretary Josh Earnest echoed the same sentiment – blaming Palestinians for Israeli high crimes, saying:
“(T)he United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attacks – the recent terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians, which resulted in the murder of three Israelis and left numerous others wounded.”
No condemnation of vicious, premeditated Israeli state terror – murdering 33 Palestinians through Wednesday, injuring well over 1,600 others, another 4,000 harmed by indiscriminate use of toxic tear gas.
Neurotoxins in tear gas are potentially lethal. They can cause severe side effects, including extreme pain, intense tightening in the chest, a burning and stinging sensation in the nose, eyes and throat.
Tear gas canister impacts can cause severe bleeding, fractures, at times requiring amputations. Israel uses extremely toxic agents in canisters marked “Made in USA.”
Tear gas is a terror weapon. Doctors treating its victims have no antidote for the toxins used. All they can do is get them to a safe place, wash the gas from their eyes and other affected areas, using sterile saline.
Children, the elderly, pregnant women, as well as anyone with respiratory or heart problems are especially vulnerable to potentially serious harm from tear gas exposure. Longterm effects are unknown.
Its use is banned in warfare under the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention. Palestine is a war theater, its residents guaranteed Fourth Geneva protections.
Israel spurns all international laws, especially humanitarian ones. Palestinian victimization is longstanding, no end to their suffering in sight, no outside help afforded them, their own Ramallah government against them, acting solely as Israel’s enforcer.
On October 10, BDS activists called for “(s)olidarity with the Palestinian popular resistance! Boycott Israel now!”
Saying “a new generation of Palestinians is marching (in) the footsteps of previous (ones), rising up en masse against Israel’s brutal, decades-old regime of occupation, settler colonialism and apartheid.”
“World governments” shamelessly ignore Israel’s full responsibility for ongoing violence.
Calling on both sides to show restraint insults millions of suffering Palestinians, the tens of thousands murdered by Israel over nearly 7 decades, the brutality of endless daily persecution, a vicious Arab-hating state run by fascist extremists no different from Nazis – a racist, tyrannical criminal regime by any standard.
“The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), the Palestinian leadership of the global BDS movement, calls on people of conscience around the world to support Palestinians in their quest for freedom at this crucial moment by stepping up BDS activities against Israel’s regime of oppression.”
“It is high time to isolate Israel’s regime of militarization, securitization and racism as a danger not just to Palestinians and the Arab region, but to humanity at large.”
We’re all Palestinians now! Support the struggle of courageous people for the fundamental rights they’ve been long denied!
Join in solidarity with their resistance against a ruthless oppressor! Speak out in their behalf! Help them in their time of need!

The FBI Convicted This Man Using Hair Analysis. It Was a Dog's Hair.

By Daniel Rivero, Fusion
25 April 15

or a while now, thanks in part to the reporting of the Washington Post’s Spencer Hsu, it’s been known that something was not quite right with the FBI’s hair forensics unit in the past. But only but only recently has the FBI admitted that failings within the unit led to hundreds, maybe thousands of questionable convictions before 2000.

In one particularly shocking case from 1978, two FBI-trained hair analysts who helped in the prosecution of a murder case couldn’t even tell the difference between human hair and dog hair.

The case involved a murder in Washington D.C. that year. The victim, a cab driver, was robbed and killed in front of his home. Before long, police centered upon Santae Tribble, then a 17-year-old local from the neighborhood, as a suspect.

Tribble maintained his innocence. But no matter what he said and how much his friends vouched, two FBI forensics experts claimed that a single strand of hair recovered near the scene of the crime matched Tribble’s DNA. Thanks to that evidence, which was groundbreaking at the time, Tribble was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison after 40 minutes of jury deliberation, reported the Washington Post.

He would go on to serve 28 years until the truth came out: an independent analysis found that the FBI testimony was flawed. Not a single hair that was found on the scene matched his DNA. After attorneys brought the evidence to the courts, Tribble was exonerated of the crime, though he’d already been released from prison. “The Court finds by clear and convincing evidence that he did not commit the crimes he was convicted of at trial,” a judge wrote in the certificate of innocence released at the time, in 2012.

It gets worse. Not only did none of the hairs presented as evidence in trial belonged to Tribble, the private lab found that one of the hairs actually came from a dog.

“Such is the true state of hair microscopy,” Sandra K. Levick, Tribble’s lawyer, wrote at the time, in 2012. “Two FBI-trained analysts… could not even distinguish human hairs from canine hairs.”

Tribble’s case in not unique. In a Washington Post story released over the weekend, officials from the FBI and the Justice Department acknowledged the extent of their flawed use of hair forensics prosecutions prior to 2000.

The numbers are staggering. Over 95 percent of the cases involving hair evidence that the FBI has reviewed so far contained flawed testimony—257 out of 268 cases.

Thirty-two of these flawed cases involve inmates who are currently on death row. In 14 cases, the inmates have already been executed, or died in prison, The Post’s Hsu reports. About 1,200 cases across the country still need to be reviewed.

Now, the Post says that “federal and state prosecutors in 46 states and the District are being notified to determine whether there are grounds for appeals.” Inside the capitol, the only jurisdiction where investigators have re-investigated all the FBI hair-related convictions prior to 2000, three of seven defendants have been exonerated since 2009. Inmates in another two cases had already been exonerated before the review.

Specifically, the “flaws” mean that FBI experts gave “statements exceeding the limits of science,” and many instances where the shaky scientific ground that the statements were dependent on were not shared with defense attorneys. To put it simply, the testimony was presented as fact, when it was not.

In a joint statement to Hsu, the FBI and the Justice Department said they “are committed to ensuring that affected defendants are notified of past errors and that justice is done in every instance. The Department and the FBI are also committed to ensuring the accuracy of future hair analysis testimony, as well as the application of all disciplines of forensic science.”
