Breaking: Officials think attack on Baton Rouge police officers is 'the work of multiple gunmen' --Baton Rouge shooting: 3 officers killed, hunt on for shooters --Police are looking for anyone wearing army fatigues, all black or possibly a mask --One suspect is dead, and two others may be at large | 17 July 2016 | Three Baton Rouge police officers were killed and three others were wounded Sunday. Officials think the attack on the officers is the work of multiple gunmen. Police received a call of a "suspicious person walking down with an assault rifle," a source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN. When police arrived, the shooting began. One of the suspects is dead. Authorities believe two others may be at large. "If they are wearing army fatigues; if they are wearing all black; if they are wearing a mask; if they are wearing anything that's out there, please, give us a call," said Baton Rouge Police Cpl. L.J. McKneely.
Three Police Officers Killed and Several Wounded in Baton Rouge Shooting | 17 July 2016 | Three law enforcement officers were shot dead and at least three others wounded in Baton Rouge, La., on Sunday, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. One suspect had been killed, most likely by police gunfire, and two others, described as wearing all black, were being sought, said Cpl. L'Lean McKneely, a police spokesman. "We do believe there is more than one suspect." Speaking to reporters in Baton Rouge, Corporal McKneely said officers responding to the shooting were checking the area for possible explosives. "We’re going to check the scene thoroughly to protect ourselves," he said.
Long-classified '28 pages' show 9/11 hijackers were aided by men with 'extensive links' to Saudi government | 15 July 2016 | At least two 9/11 hijackers were aided by men with "extensive ties" to the Saudi Arabian government, according to newly-declassified documents. The possible links between the Saudi government and the perpetrators of America's worst-ever terrorist attack were catalogued in a 2002 Congressional report, but were deemed by then-president [sic] George W Bush [9/11 unindicted co-conspirator] to be too damaging to be made public. Since then families of 9/11 victims and members of Congress have lobbied for the portion of the report- known as the "28 Pages" - to be declassified. The report was released on Friday, and names five Saudi individuals with links to the government that allegedly helped the hijackers - of which 15 of 19 were Saudi nationals - get apartments, open bank accounts, attend local mosques and get flight lessons.
US Declassifies Secret 9/11 Documents Known as the '28 Pages' | 15 July 2016 | The U.S. intelligence community has officially lifted the veil on 28 classified pages from the first congressional investigation into the 9/11 terror attacks that some believe, once exposed, could demonstrate a support network inside the United States for two of those al-Qaeda [al-CIAduh] 'hijackers.' [Not to mention, the explosives planted in the WTC at the behest of 'Lucky Larry' Silverstein and the Bush regime.] Today, the Obama administration declassified those documents -- closely held secrets for over 13 years -- and Congress is expected to make them the public this afternoon. The FBI and U.S. intelligence agencies had kept the information secret until now, citing reasons of national security.
Alleged coup leader was once military attaché to Israel | 16 July 2016 | Turkish media on Saturday named former Turkish Air Force chief Akın Ozturk as one of the main instigators of the country's attempted coup on Friday. Ozturk, who led he air force between 2013 and 2015 before retiring from the army last year, was also the nation's military attaché to Israel in the 1990s; he served in the Jewish state between 1996-1998. Turkey's president has also blamed a US-based cleric for being behind the failed takeover attempt. Washington has said it would entertain an extradition request for Fethullah Gulen.
Turkish planes docked at US Incirlik Air Base took part in Friday night's coup attempt, officials say --U.S. troops at Incirlik on highest force protection level | 16 July 2016 | U.S. troops at Turkey's Incirlik air base were at the highest force protection level, known as "condition Delta," after power was cut off at the base and the Turkish government closed the airspace around the site in the hours following a foiled military coup attempt, a U.S. official told ABC News today. Turkish officials told ABC News they believe Turkish planes docked at Incirlik Air Base took part in Friday night's coup attempt, which is why the site is locked down. Turkey allows the United States to use the air base for operations associated with its air campaign against [except when it does food and weapons drops for] ISIS in Iraq and Syria. There are 2,200 U.S. personnel in Turkey, including 1,500 stationed at Incirlik.

After Coup Attempt, Turkish President Demands US Extradite Muslim Cleric Fethullah Gulen | 16 July 2016 | Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the United States today to extradite to Turkey the U.S.-based 'moderate Islamic cleric' he claims is behind Friday night's military coup attempt. Erdogan made the demand during a televised speech addressing supporters outside his residence in Istanbul. He said Turkey had always cooperated with any extradition request for "terrorists" by the United States, emphasizing Turkey's joint role with the U.S. government in fighting terrorism. Fethullah Gulen, who lives in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, has rejected the notion that he has any involvement in the attempt to seize power from Erdogan...
Erdogan Blames US-Based Cleric Gulen's 'Terrorist Organization' for Attempted Military Coup --'Not going anywhere': Erdogan gives defiant Istanbul airport speech, downplaying attempted coup | 16 July 2016 | Recep Tayyip Erdogan has made a public statement on the attempted coup after his plane landed at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport early Saturday morning. The Turkish president blamed the bloody events on forces loyal to exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen, saying they would pay for it. Erdogan has addressed crowds of supporters after emerging at Ataturk Airport. Erdogan claimed that forces loyal to US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen were behind the attempted coup, saying that Friday's events had shown that "the Gulen structure is an armed terrorist organization." The exiled preacher has resided in the US [Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania] for over 15 years. President Erdogan was in Turkey's Mediterranean resort town of Marmaris at the time the events began to unfold in Ankara and Istanbul, he said, claiming that the hotel he had stayed in there was also bombed, but he had left it by then.
A reclusive religious scholar in Pennsylvania may be behind the attempted coup in Turkey | 15 July 2016 | As tanks take up positions in the streets and jets fly overhead in a dramatic coup attempt in Turkey, suspicion has fallen on Fethullah Gulen, a US-based Turkish religious scholar and political enemy of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the strongman Turkish president. Until now, Erdogan had appeared to have crushed the 75-year-old Gulen, who has deep roots in the Turkish political, military, judicial, and media establishments, as well as in Muslim countries around the world. But if, as Erdogan himself has alleged, Gulen or his followers [the Alliance for Shared Values] are involved in the putsch, then it demonstrates that he remains a force to contend with, though he has lived for years in seclusion in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania.
Turkish President declares coup attempt over; 754 people arrested --At least 1,000 people in Istanbul and Ankara were hospitalized after night of violence | 16 July 2016 | A violent, chaotic night in Turkey ended with at least 60 people dead following an attempted coup, officials said, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's reappearance after hours of uncertainty. While it was unclear whether Erdogan had quashed the uprising, the government was slowly reasserting its authority Saturday morning. At least 754 people were arrested in the attempted coup, state-run Anadolu agency reported, citing the interior ministry. More than 30 senior army officers have been suspended. At least 42 people -- mostly police officers -- were killed in Ankara in a gunfire exchange with a helicopter near the parliament complex, Turkey's NTV reported, citing the attorney general's office.
Ankara chaos: All-out war with helicopters, fighter jets, tanks, casualties reported | 16 July 2016 | A Turkish F-16 fighter jet has reportedly shot down a military helicopter used by the pro-coup faction of the Turkish army, local broadcaster NTV reported, as reports suggested the capital of Ankara descended into chaotic clashes involving civilians and military. A military helicopter was spotted opening fire above Ankara, Reuters reports, citing witnesses. Other reports claim that a loud explosion occurred at the headquarters of state broadcaster TRT.
Explosions Reported Near Turkish Parliament Amid Coup Attempt | 15 July 2016 | A coup was attempted in Turkey Friday with a faction of the military taking over state TV, imposing martial law and a curfew and reportedly attacking the police headquarters in the capital of Ankara, according to American and foreign officials. There were also at least two blasts reported near the entrance to parliament and no immediate word of casualties. The entrance to the building appears damaged. It was not clear who was behind the attempted coup, but a broadcaster for state TV read a letter from a group calling itself the "Turkish peace council" saying that martial law is being imposed. The news anchor says media personnel were handcuffed and forced to read what they were given. CNN Turk has said that soldiers entered their building, the Dogan Media Center, which also houses the newspaper Hurriyet and DHA, a broadcaster.
CONFIRMED: Full-Blown Military Coup in Turkey; UPDATE: Coup Over? | 15 JULY 2016 | While there are reports of sporadic confrontations between pro-coup forces and protestors, it appears as if the coup has failed. Explosions have rocked the parliament building, injuring 12 people. Turkish state television–TRT–is back on the air. CNN Turk said that the anchor that read the coup plotters statement did so at gunpoint. Government officials are back in their offices, though there are some reports that parliament members are still in hiding. CNN's Anderson Cooper and others were noting that not taking the Turkish president and prime minister into custody at the start of this action seems to be failing "coup 101." Still the situation is tenuous, but it looks as if the coup plotters are not going to be successful. Based on reports, President Erdogan is back in Istanbul after his requests for asylum were denied in Germany.
17 Turkish Officers Killed in Helicopter Attack, Military Opens Fire on Civilians | 16 July 2016 | Recent updates: The soldiers opened fire on grounds around the first bridge across the Bosphorus dividing Europe and Asia, said an AFP photographer, who saw wounded people being taken to ambulances. Soldiers were seen on the streets in Istanbul and Ankara as jets flew low overhead. Citizens rushed for the safety of their homes after witnessing the coup attempt. Television pictures showed tanks deployed outside Ataturk airport in Istanbul. Reports said that flights into the airport had been halted. "The power in the country has been seized in its entirety," said a military statement quoted by Turkish media.
Newtown Rejects $11 Million Lawsuit Settlement Offer From Sandy Hook Victims' Families | 15 July 2016 | The town of Newtown has rejected an offer by two families of children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre to settle a pending civil lawsuit for 11 million. Attorneys for the estates of Noah Pozner and Jesse Lewis had filed a motion last month offering to settle the lawsuit against the Newtown school district for 5.5 million each. The town had 30 days to accept the offer and attorney Donald Papcsy, who is representing the families, said the deadline passed this week. Papcsy said he is now starting to go through the more than 8,000 pages of documents that have been turned over as part of the discovery process. Much of that is the redacted state police report on the shooting made public two years ago, but the town also has turned over the school district's policies prior to the shooting on security and active shooter protocols.
Judge to rule on lawsuit accusing NSA of spying on everyone in SLC during 2002 Olympics | 14 July 2016 | A federal judge is deciding whether to keep alive a lawsuit that accuses the National Security Agency of conducting massive surveillance on everyone in the area during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The lawsuit brought by former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson was heard by the judge in U.S. District Court on Thursday. Representing a group of people that include a Republican state senator, a former city councilwoman and a Democratic party activist, Anderson has accused the NSA of collecting phone calls, text messages and emails for everyone in the Salt Lake City area around the time of the 2002 Olympics.
France calls up 12K police reserves to beef up security | 16 July 2016 | France's interior minister announced a tightening of security measures nationwide Saturday, including the call-up of 12,000 police reserves, "because of the terrorist threat" in the wake of the deadly Bastille Day melee in Nice. Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the reserves would beef up the 120,000-strong force of police and soldiers already deployed around the country.
Nice terror attack: Isis claims responsibility for lorry massacre in French coastal city | 16 July 2016 | Isis has claimed responsibility for the terror attack in Nice that saw at least 84 people killed after a lorry was driven into crowds of people. A man named as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove his vehicle more than one mile along the coastal French city's Promenade de Anglais, sending hundreds of people fleeing in horror. And news agency Amaq, which supports the group also known as Islamic State, said via its Telegram account: "The person who carried out the operation in Nice, France, to run down people was one of the soldiers of Islamic State."
Nice Airport is evacuated hours after ISIS gunman murdered 84 in Bastille Day horror --Airport in Nice, Provence, has been suddenly evacuated and sealed off --Military personnel could be seen inside the terminal after passengers left | 15 July 2016 | Nice Airport was evacuated just hours after a terror attack in which at least 84 people were killed during Bastille Day celebrations in the city. The reason for the evacuation is as yet unclear but passengers have been ordered to leave the building. The airport has now been sealed off and military personnel can be seen inside the huge glass terminal.
Terror Attack on Nice: 84 Dead After Grenade-Filled Truck Plows Into Crowd | 15 July 2016 | Eighty-four people -- including several children -- died in the French city of Nice after a terrorist plowed a truck, which was "loaded with" grenades and other arms, into a large crowd during Bastille Day celebrations Thursday night, according to officials and the French president. As of Friday 8 a.m. local time, 18 individuals were in critical condition, 50 were lightly injured, and 120 were receiving treatment, according to a spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior. Prior to the announcement Friday morning that 84 had died, the death toll had been 80.
UK to send 50 additional troops to Afghanistan | 09 July 2016 | The UK is to send up to 50 additional military personnel to Afghanistan to train and advise security forces [help protect the CIA's poppy fields] there. They will join the 450 British troops already in the country - and will aid counter-terrorism efforts and provide leadership training. Officials have said the additional troops will not be taking part in combat operations against the Taliban. UK troops had been due to leave Afghanistan this year but will now have their mission extended into 2017.
Hungary shuts down nuclear plant reactor due to equipment malfunction | 14 July 2016 | Hungary has shut down a reactor at the Paks nuclear plant due to a malfunction in control equipment, according to national news agency MTI. Operations have been shut down in the first block of the plant. Once the error is detected and corrected, operations will resume under the official supervision of the National Nuclear Energy Office (HAEA).
Donald Trump Officially Introduces Mike Pence as Running Mate on GOP Ticket | 16 July 2016 | Donald Trump said his selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his Republican running mate showed a commitment to party unity and that they will form the "law and order" choice for the presidency in the fall. Mr. Trump had intended officially to announce his selection of Mr. Pence on Friday, but delayed the event after Thursday's terrorist killing of 84 people in Nice, France. Uncertainty had hung over his selection for days, as news reports aired divides within Mr. Trump's circle over his preference for the Indiana governor.
Donald Trump Selects Mike Pence, Indiana Governor, as Running Mate | 15 July 2016 | Donald J. Trump named Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana as his running mate on Friday, adding to the Republican ticket a traditional conservative who boasts strong credentials with the Christian right, and bringing an end to a vice presidential selection process that seemed at risk of spinning out of control. Mr. Trump announced the choice shortly before 11 a.m., the time at which he had planned to unveil his selection at an event in Manhattan. But instead of a showy rollout in a Midtown hotel, Mr. Trump named Mr. Pence as his running mate on Twitter, after abruptly canceling their joint event in the aftermath of the attack in Nice, France, on Thursday evening. "I am pleased to announce that I have chosen Governor Mike Pence as my Vice Presidential running mate. News conference tomorrow at 11:00 A.M.," Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter.

David Samson, close confidant of Christie, pleads guilty in airline shakedown | 14 July 2016 | David Samson - the embattled former chairman of the powerful Port Authority of New York and New Jersey - pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon to using his considerable clout to coerce one of the nation's largest airlines to accommodate his desire for a regularly scheduled, non-stop flight to his South Carolina summer home...The guilty plea, meanwhile, could make things more complicated for Gov. Chris Christie, a close friend to Samson and now a top advisor to presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. The governor was reportedly on Trump's short list for vice president.
Bernie Sanders's Book Is Coming Out In November - One Week After Election Day | 15 July 2016 | Now that Sen. Bernie Sanders has officially endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, he has time to work on his next project - and it's a big one. Thomas Dunne Books announced on Thursday that Bernie Sanders is writing a book, due for publication November 15, one week after Election Day. The book will cost $27 - a nod to Sanders's claim that his average d-nation was 27. The book, titled Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In, will delve into his policy ideas for the future and reflect upon his unexpectedly fervent but ultimately unsuccessful campaign for president.
Cornel West endorses Green Party candidate Jill Stein | 15 July 2016 | Activist and professor Cornel West endorsed Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein on Thursday, calling her the "only progressive woman in the race" in a jab at Hillary Clinton. "This November, we need change. Yet we are tied in a choice between Trump, who would be a neo-fascist catastrophe, and Clinton, a neo-liberal disaster. That's why I am supporting Jill Stein. I am with her -- the only progressive woman in the race -- because we've got to get beyond this lock-jaw situation," West wrote in an editorial in the Guardian.
U.S. ordered to lower Navy sonar levels to protect whales | 16 July 2016 | U.S. officials have wrongly allowed the Navy to use sonar at levels that could harm whales and other marine mammals in the world's oceans, a federal appeals court in San Francisco has ruled. The decision Friday by the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals would scale back the Navy's use of low-frequency sonar in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans and the Mediterranean Sea under authority that was granted in 2012. Sonar, used to detect submarines, can injure whales, seals and walruses and disrupt their feeding and mating.
Bronx Zoo sociopaths torturing polar bear: Polar Bear Lies Motionless in NYC's 90-Degree Heat | 15 July 2016 | Tundra, New York City's only polar bear, was lying alone in his concrete pit on Wednesday at the Bronx Zoo, as temperatures climbed to 91 degrees. Tundra, who is 25 years old, wasn't moving. Lying in the sun, he would budge only occasionally, lifting his paw to bring the ball he cradled closer...Just this week, the death of a polar bear named Arturo -- known as one of the world's saddest animals -- sparked a conversation as to whether it was unethical to keep him at a zoo in Argentina, where temperatures can reach up to 100 degrees. While the world was outraged at the conditions Arturo was kept in and many fought to move him to a more suitable environment, little was able to be done for him because of the zoo's blatant disregard for his welfare. In New York City's Bronx Zoo, Tundra the polar bear is also languishing alone in confinement...Polar bears live in the Arctic, where temperatures are a frigid -29 F and can reach as low as -92 F. Despite the unbelievably cold temperatures, polar bears can often overheat and will roll in the snow to cool off, as well as to keep their fur clean. There is nothing "normal" or "natural" about confining a polar bear to a concrete cell in New York.
High temperatures could form dangerous 'heat dome' over most of the US as the country braces itself for massive coast-to-coast heatwave with stifling weather soaring past 100 degrees --Weather officials also predict heat index will reach the dangerous category | 17 July 2016 | The US will brace itself for the coast-to-coast heatwave that is predicted to form a 'heat dome' over most of the country, creating dangerous and deadly conditions as temperatures soar past 90 in some areas. Forecasters have warned that some of the hottest temperatures of the season may hit the US this week. High humidity is expected along with the heat, particularly in the Midwest, and according to CNN, the moisture combined with the high temperatures will create a 'heat dome' over most of the country.
