Right-Wing Christians, Radical Islamic Fundamentalists - They're Pretty Much Exactly the Same

And they would IMPOSE their values of others!

"Think about it. Both of these groups of people live their lives based on hand-picked sections of their religious books. Neither follows every rule written inside because it’s essentially impossible to do so. And even within each of these faiths there are many denominations created by humans who basically interpret parts of each of these books by how they feel they should be followed. They both believe that they’re right and everyone else will surely burn in hell. They both tend to want to force their views on others – even if those others don’t agree with what they believe in. Each of these groups, if they had their way, would have theocratic governments based on their religions."

lthough I do not believe that awards are a measure of the work we do, I would like to add the National Award for the Best Screenplay that I won in 1989 to the growing pile of returned awards. Also, I want to make it clear that I am not returning this award because I am “shocked” by what is being called the “growing intolerance” being fostered by the present government.
First of all, “intolerance” is the wrong word to use for the lynching, shooting, burning, and mass murder of fellow human beings. Second, we had plenty of advance notice of what lay in store for us — so I cannot claim to be shocked by what has happened after this government was enthusiastically voted into office with an overwhelming majority*. Third, these horrific murders are only a symptom of a deeper malaise. Life is hell for the living too. Whole populations — millions of Dalits, Adivasis, Muslims, and Christians — are being forced to live in terror, unsure of when and from where the assault will come.
Today we live in a country in which, when the thugs and apparatchiks of the New Order talk of “illegal slaughter” they mean the imaginary cow that was killed — not the real man that was murdered. When they talk of taking “evidence for forensic examination” from the scene of the crime, they mean the food in the fridge, not the body of the lynched man.
We say we have “progressed” — but when Dalits are butchered and their children burned alive, which writer today can freely say, like Babasaheb Ambedkar once did, that “To the Untouchables, Hinduism is a veritable chamber of horrors,” without getting attacked, lynched, shot, or jailed? Which writer can write what Saadat Hassan Manto wrote in his “Letter to Uncle Sam”?
It doesn’t matter whether we agree or disagree with what is being said. If we do not have the right to speak freely we will turn into a society that suffers from intellectual malnutrition, a nation of fools. Across the subcontinent it has become a race to the bottom — one that the New India has enthusiastically joined. Here too now, censorship has been outsourced to the mob.
I am very pleased to have found (from somewhere way back in my past) a National Award that I can return, because it allows me to be a part of a political movement initiated by writers, filmmakers, and academics in this country who have risen up against a kind of ideological viciousness and an assault on our collective IQ that will tear us apart and bury us very deep if we do not stand up to it now.
I believe what artists and intellectuals are doing right now is unprecedented and does not have a historical parallel. It is politics by other means. I am so proud to be part of it. And so ashamed of what is going on in this country today.

RSN: Ta-Nehisi Coates | Ben Carson, Bigot

Bigotry cloaked in the erudition of Ben Carson is nonetheless BIGOTRY.

Let's remember the disgrace of World War II when Japanese Americans were forced into internment camps, sacrificed their possessions, businesses and were imprisoned for little else other than being Japanese.

The Ignorance and Prejudice of the PAST is destined to be repeated if Republican Ignorance is perpetuated.

Ben Carson, Bigot

By Ta-Nehisi Coates, The Atlantic
24 September 15

esterday presidential candidate Ben Carson was asked if he could ever support a Muslim president. Carson, channeling a significant portion of the American electorate, said that he “would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation.” This proclamation is presently receiving the rebuke that it deserves, though it could stand for even more, if only because of its ugly sanctimony.
Ben Carson is a Christian—a fact he shares in common with all our greatest domestic terrorists and self-styled Indian-killers. From slave-holding to ethnic cleansing, Christianity has repeatedly been employed to sanctify our most shameful acts. One might counter that Christianity has also been employed to inspire our most honorable acts. But this is a level of complexity that Carson’s ilk do not grant to Islam. To Carson, Islam is terror and nothing else.
Christians, fully conscious of their own pedigree, need not completely renounce their faith, nor repudiate their scripture. (If a man seeks to plunder you, Dr. Seuss will suffice for showing cause.) But you would think a wise Christian would be more humble. Carson is neither humble nor wise. Carson is a bigot playing to a base that considers bigotry to be a feature, not a bug.

This ...that.....

This is one of the most breathtaking and horrifying photos that defines our species....and our stupidity.....

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this picture is worth many thousands of bison. This photo from the 1870s shows a man proudly standing in front of amountain of tens of thousands of bison skulls - an iconic American species that was systematically slaughtered by the millions as European Americans settled the west.
The US Army actively endorsed the wholesale slaughter of these animals for two main reasons: to remove any competition with cattle, and to starve Native American tribes who greatly depended on the bison for food. Without the bison, the resisting tribes of the Great Plains would either be forced to leave or die of starvation.
More than a century after this dark period in our history, the bison is making a comeback. After living on the brink of extinction, this American icon is slowly but steadily returning to the Great Plains - one baby bison at a time. You can watch a video of how Native American communities and conservation groups like Earthjustice are fighting to bring back the bison on our website: http://ejus.tc/Ovv8lV
Click "SHARE" and "LIKE" if you are moved by the story of this great American species and celebrate its return to the Great Plains! Feel free to leave your thoughts about the bison below.

Humm... an excellent question. Heard about what unions have done for us lately?

Religious intolerance is running more rampant than ever.

If you're not outraged, then you just aren't paying attention. The sum total of the I.Q. of this bunch doesn't reach 100, and they all have guns, and it's not illegal. I don't want to live here anymore.
The fallout of NRA extremism: on Thursday gun activists took to the Washington State Capitol to intimidate lawmakers and undermine democracy. These armed protesters are clearly taking notes from the gun lobby -- when they can't get voters on their side, they employ fear: http://every.tw/1DLiJEM
