Glenn Marshall and The Tizzy!

The issues surrounding the corruption of Jack Abramoff and the Government For Sale period in which he operated are complex and convoluted.
.
It was announced today that (link)

The former head of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe was charged today with making illegal campaign contributions to members of Congress, embezzling funds from his tribe, filing false tax returns and fraudulently receiving Social Security disability benefits all in connection to efforts to win official U.S. recognition of tribal status.

Glenn A. Marshall, 59, who recently pushed for a controversial casino-gambling deal for the tribe in Middleborough, was accused by the U.S. Attorney’s office with violating campaign laws, as well as engaging in alleged tax, wire and Social Security frauds.

Fellow bloggers have done a great job covering the indictment --

Need I tell you?

Lingering questions remain about the validity of Tribal recognition and the validity of the Agreement with the Town of Middleboro. Did the Town negotiate an Agreement with a legitimate Tribe that will withstand the court challenges sure to follow?

Abramoff had his sticky fingers wherever government was available at bargain prices. The indictments have taken years to reach fruition, but the Feds dedication to seeking the truth and prosecuting the offenders has been worthy of notice.

The impact of Glenn Marshall's indictment will require time to resolve the implications, but of greater importance is this trickle down level of corruption that impacts local communities.

Is this the element we, as a Town, want to get into bed with?

Of all the coments, the one that will haunt me will be when Adam Bond said of Glen Marshall that everyone has skeletons in their closet.
Marshall will do his time, but for a town to negotiate with this type of sleezy felon ......
During tonights BOS meeting, Mr Bond was suggesting that the negotiation might have been in 'bad faith' because of this indictment.
I'm not an attorny, but I figured this out before TMFH based on public information that was widly available.
If I figured it out, Mr Bond cant be very smart.

The BOS should shred the agrement. Nows the chance.

Once again, the BOS and former so called town manager Healy that was a chump have made poor decisions that now will seriously affect the town of Middleboro not to mention all the tension, arguements, and splitting of a town once that stood as one until the almighty word GREED stepped in. I hope the town has to return the money that may end up being illegally used to pay for town land. SHAME ON THE BOS AND HEALY IS, WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE BEYOND HOPE.

Anon, I've been working on a blog for more than a week, about how we have allowed 'emotions' to control this debate, when we needed the facts and information.

It actually had little to do with current events and more about CPA.

We should have been discussing impartial reports that provided numbers projections in ALL areas, just as the Matrix report provided projections -- although somewhat skewed for several reasons. The first that come to mind were - 1. the traffic projections are not fully satisfactory 2. the information provided to the firm, from what was indicated by the firm's representative, were in disarray and not fully reviewed.

Instead of calling names and making up fairy tales, we need to make business decisions based on facts -- cold, dull and boring, facts. Numbers!

This deal never made sense from the beginning.

The $7 million figure?

Jack, was it 'Fuzzy Math' ?? "Let's begin with what we need to balance the budget and look for where to get that amount" ?

I am a firm believer that people get the government they deserve. 5%of eligible voters were participating in Town Elections. 95% voted in absentia.

If you have a problem with that, I can only suggest that you watch the BOS meetings, attend others of interest/concern, and get off your couch -- vote, participate, organize, agitate, talk to your neighbors, and pay attention.

I've handed out or delivered more voter registration forms than I care to tally. Make sure your neighbors are registered and remind them to vote. Town election is the first Saturday in April and gets lost in the shuffle. Create your own network of friends, relatives, neighbors, associates to email or call to remind to vote or attend meetings that are important to you.

We can't change past poor history, but we can sure change where the town goes in the future. And that includes CPA that provides control for needed purchases.

Middleboro will not change. For too many years now the loudest mouths complaining about tax hikes/pro and anti casino/Oak Hill/etc. DON'T GO OUT TO VOTE TO MAKE THE CHANGE SO BADLY NEEDED. It's the same LITTLE BUT DEVOTE circle of TOWNINES that keep the SOS and I don't mean distress I do mean (same old shat) on the BOS and Department heads are still basically running the BOS. MAKE THE TOWN BETTER. GET OUT VOTE AND THEN BE HEARD. Your yard work will still be there after you vote and you may actually "MAKE THE DIFFERENCE". The past few elections have lost a few GOOD as well as HARD WORKING people that ran for the BOS and TRIED to EDUCATE the town. BUT/NO CHANGE/ DO IT THIS APRIL. DON'T let the little "TOWNIE CLICK" that ALWAYS takes the time to keep the same old BOS in there to ruin our town.
