A federal government shutdown may please a narrow segment of partisans, but it's bad for the middle class, Main Street businesses and Colorado's flood victims. Today alone, tens of thousands of Colorado federal employees were forced to stay home, small business loan applications remain unprocessed, and our national parks and public lands, which inject millions of dollars into the economies of places like Grand Junction, Estes Park, Cortez and Gunnison, are closed. These are only a few of the countless ways that a government shutdown already is harming our state.
With urgent flood recovery efforts still underway in Colorado, it's past time for the House to stop playing games and to allow a vote on the Senate-passed funding bill that keeps the government open. That way we can get back to work on the issues that matter, like supporting policies that spur job growth, reducing the federal budget deficit, fixing our broken immigration system and pursuing a balanced national energy policy. We can even debate any constructive fixes to the nation's health care law — but not in a way that will shut down our government and hurt Coloradans.
LIKE this post to help me urge the House to end this shutdown.
