We will hold joint military exercises with Britain and US,
says Ukraine 19 Mar 2014 Ukraine's
new [unelected neo-Nazi] government said on Wednesday night that it would be
conducting military exercises with Britain and the United States, in a move
intended to warn Russia against further seizures of Ukrainian territory. Kiev
said the maneouvres would be conducted under the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, a
document signed by Britain, American and Russia to guarantee Ukraine's
territorial integrity after it gave up its share of Soviet nuclear bombs.
However, a Downing Street source said Britain had not "committed" itself yet to
the exercises and declined to elaborate on whether they would involve sending
British forces to the Black Sea region.

to sanction economy 20 Mar 2014 US

sanctions on top Russian officials and businessmen. The order also allows for
measures against Russian energy, mining, defense, and engineering sectors. The
new list of sanctioned officials includes 20 names, according to the list published by the US Department of Treasury. The new penalties mark
the second round of economic sanctions the US has levied on Russia this
week.

Not really news, but: CIA reportedly employed
several operatives, warlords and militant leaders deeply involved in Afghan
opium trade --Reports say
US-led NATO forces are taxing the production of opium in the regions under their
control. 20 Mar 2014 A senior western audit officer has raised
fresh concerns that US funds meant to help pay Afghan police salaries may
instead be going to "ghost workers". "I am writing to express my concern
that the US may be unwittingly helping to pay the salaries of non-existent
members of the Afghan National Police," John Sopko, the special
inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction wrote in recent letter to top
US-led NATO generals... Afghan officials
accuse the US of channeling funds to the Taliban militant group.
Afghan lawmakers say American helicopters have recently delivered several
shipments of small arms and heavy weapons to the militants in southern
provinces. Senior officials in Kabul have also demanded an explanation from
Washington over its aid to the Taliban...In addition to that, the Afghan
counter-narcotics officials say foreign troops are also earning money from drug
production in Afghanistan. [Darn those pesky deficits that the
Teabags/DemocRATs whine about 24/7! And yet: There seems to be a bottomless pit
of US tax dollars available to protect the CIA's heroin trade, arm the Taliban,
fund the fascist coup in the Ukraine, pay for Israel's Iron Dome, and provide
even more tax breaks and bl*w jobs for Exxon
Mobil.]

11 20 Mar 2014 Taliban fighters
killed at least 11 people and wounded 22 in a suicide bomb attack and gunbattle
at a police station in Afghanistan's eastern Jalalabad city early on Thursday
morning, according to police and health officials. The assault began with two
explosions just before dawn targeting the police station and a nearby square,
close to compounds used by international organizations including the United
Nations. The initial attack was carried out by two suicide bombers, one of them
driving a three-wheeler vehicle.

Kabul 20 Mar 2014 Four unidentified
gunmen have attacked a luxury hotel near the presidential palace in the Afghan
capital. On Thursday, gunfire broke out inside the Serena Hotel's restaurant in
Kabul. Security forces moved in later and shot dead all the assailants. "The

Israel budgets $3 billion for strike on Iran -
report 19 Mar 2014 Israel's 2014
military budget includes at least 10 billion shekels devoted to preparations for
war with Iran, Haaretz newspaper reports. Top Jerusalem officials recently said
that Israel may strike Tehran's nuclear sites even without US help...The
parliamentarians said they questioned the decision to maintain funding in view
of Tehran's softening relations with the West, only to be told by army
commanders that Israel's political leaders ordered them to continue,
regardless.
Turkey blocks Twitter, after Erdoğan vowed
'eradication' 20 Mar 2014 Turkey has
blocked access to Twitter, hours after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan vowed
to close down the social media platform. "We now have a court order. We'll
eradicate Twitter. I don't care what the
international community says. Everyone will witness the power of
the Turkish Republic," Erdoğan said at his campaign rally in the western city of
Bursa on March 20, 10 days before the upcoming local elections.
Weather experts baffled by mystery plume on New Mexico radar
near 1945 nuclear bomb test site --Speculation cloud could be result of weapons test
19 Mar 2014 A mystery 'storm cloud' caught on weather radar after erupting off a
U.S. military missile testing ground in New Mexico has left weather experts
baffled. 'Conspiracy' theorists have speculated that the plume-like cloud, which
seems to appear out of nowhere, could have been kicked up by the explosion from
an unreported weapons test. Deepening the mystery, U.S. National Weather Service
offices in Albuquerque and El Paso have confirmed the reading, but say they have
no idea where it could have come from.
Fukushima radioactive water decontamination suspended
indefinitely 20 Mar 2014 Treatment
of radioactive water at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant might be
indefinitely suspended after malfunctions crippled the water purification
process and recontaminated thousands of tons of partially purified water,
Japanese media report. The failure in the system, known as the Advanced Liquid
Processing System (ALPS), is the latest setback in Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s
(TEPCO) uphill battle to stockpile radioactive water, which is ballooning at a
rate of 400 tons per day. TEPCO said up to 900 tons of water, which had not been
sufficiently cleaned in the ALPS equipment, flowed into a network of 21 tanks
that were holding 15,000 tons of treated water. Not only have the 21 tanks been
rendered unusable, but all 15,000 tons of previously cleaned water will now have
to be retreated.
Canberra unwilling to disclose if its Jindalee
Over-The-Horizon Radar tracked MH370 - Aviation news
portal --Super-secret
facilities Jindalee, Pine Gap may have crucial radar, satellite
readings 19 Mar 2014 A crucial piece of the puzzle in the Malaysia
Airlines flight MH370 mystery could lie somewhere in the barren Australian
heartland. As recovery efforts for MH370 continue into the 12th day, the one
element that could swing the odds in favour of search-and-rescue (SAR) teams --
a super-secret installation just outside Alice Springs -- remains cloaked in
secrecy. Aviation Week news portal has accused Canberra of being unwilling to
disclose whe-ther its Jindalee Over-The-Horizon Radar (OTHR) system had tracked
the flight. While it said the super radar had an official range of 3,000km, the
Royal Australian Air Force system is reportedly able to reach further into the
South China Sea.
MH370: Malaysian plane search resumes 20 Mar 2014 An international search of the southern Indian
Ocean has resumed for a second day as authorities try to locate a missing
Malaysian airliner. Five military and civilian aircraft are taking part in the
search for debris from flight MH370, which disappeared on 8 March with 239
people on board. Satellite images released on Thursday showed objects possibly
related to the plane in waters far south-west of the Australian city of Perth.
Bad weather hampered Thursday's search.
Australia checking 2 objects in search for Malaysian
plane 19 Mar 2014 An Australian
search and rescue official says that planes have been sent to check on two
objects possibly related to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight that were
spotted on satellite imagery in the Indian Ocean about 2,500 kilometers (1,550
miles) southwest of Perth. But John Young of the Australian Maritime Safety
Authority cautioned Thursday against expectations that this may help solve the
mystery of the plane that went missing with 239 people on board nearly two weeks
ago.
U.S. Senate leader orders probe of alleged CIA computer
hacking 20 Mar 2014 The leader of
the U.S. Senate strongly backed the head of the Senate Intelligence Committee on
Thursday in a dispute with the Central Intelligence Agency, ordering an
investigation into what he called an "indefensible" breach of the panel's
computers by the CIA. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said accusations that
the agency spied on the panel's computers as it investigated the use of harsh interrogation techniques
torture during the Bush administration raised concerns about possible violations
of the Constitution. "The CIA has not only interfered with the lawful
congressional oversight of its activities, but has also seemingly attempted to
intimidate its overseers by subjecting them to criminal investigation," Reid
said in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder obtained by
Reuters.

U.S. general reprimanded for adultery, avoids jail in
court-martial 20 Mar 2014 A U.S.
Army general who had faced possible life in prison on sexual assault charges was
reprimanded by a judge on Thursday but avoided any jail time for mistreating a
captain during one of several improper relationships with junior female
officers. Brigadier General Jeffrey Sinclair was ordered to forfeit $20,000 in
pay but he also avoided dismissal from the Army for military crimes that were
aired in a rare court-martial of a top officer. The married general admitted to
various offenses this week in a plea deal that dropped the sexual assault
charges involving the female captain, who said Sinclair forced her to perform
oral sex when she tried to break off their adulterous, three-year
affair.

who was tried and convicted as Bradley Edward Manning for leaking U.S. secrets
to WikiLeaks is petitioning a Kansas court for a name change, to Chelsea

hearing on the request, according to a Leavenworth Times legal notice sent

Controversial Westboro Baptist Pastor Fred Phelps
Dies 20 Mar 2014 The Rev. Fred
Phelps Sr., who founded a Kansas church widely known for its protests at
military funerals and anti-gay sentiments, has died according to his son Tim
Phelps and KSN sister station Kansas First News. Phelps, 84, was being cared for
in a Shawnee County facility, Westboro Baptist Church spokesman Steve Drain said
Sunday. Members of the Westboro church, based in Topeka, frequently protest at
funerals of soldiers with signs containing messages such as "Thank God for dead
soldiers," and "Thank God for 9/11," claiming the deaths are God's punishment
for American immorality and tolerance of homosexuality and
abortion.
