FITCHBURG — Opponents of the proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline are organizing a summit on Saturday to inform the public about the downside of the plan.
The proposed pipeline would travel through northern Massachusetts from Richmond to Dracut.
The summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School performing arts center, 1050 Westminster St. Organizers are expecting people to attend from 70 communities across Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York.
The event will include presentations by attorney Shanna Cleveland of the Conservation Law Foundation, who will present a view of what is driving the recent interest in expanding natural gas infrastructure, and attorney Anne Marie Garti, who will discuss her recent experiences with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Constitution Pipeline in New York. State Sens. Eileen Donoghue, D-Lowell, and Jamie Eldridge, D-Acton, and state Reps. Sheila Harrington, R-Groton, and Stephen Kulik, D-Worthington, will participate in a panel discussion on actions citizens and the Legislature might take in response to the Kinder Morgan proposal.
