This & that....declining Popularity of Republicans among Republicans, The Dark Act

Will the candidates listen?
Republican candidates looking to win swing states' votes may want to change their tone on climate.

An investigation into the hiring practices of a Massachusetts-based police force revealed that police were giving bonus points to candidates who said they would not arrest a fellow officer, while deducting points from those who said they would.

Stop this before it passes through the Senate.
BREAKING: House of Representatives passes HR1599 (The DARK Act), to outlaw GMO labeling at the state and federal levels. If this bill ends up passing the Senate, it will overturn the will of the people of Vermont and strike down their mandatory GMO labeling law. The DARK Act doesn't stop there. It would overturn GMO crop cultivation bans passed at the county level such as those in Jackson County, Oregon, and in many counties in Northern California. It would allow GMOs to be labeled "natural" and allow some GMOs to be labeled as Non-GMO. "An attempted expansion [at PHMSA] is certainly underway. Congress recently approved a $250 million budget bill for the agency, an increase by $120 million over last year. Marie Therese Dominguez, slated to be the next administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), said at Wednesday’s hearing that, as deputy administrator, she has been using that money to expand the agency’s staff by more than 100 people. She said a large majority of those new employees would be pipeline safety inspectors, though she also noted the agency faces stiff hiring competition with actual oil pipeline companies who are looking for people with similar expertise. About 40 of those 100 positions have already been filled, Dominguez said."
Senators from both sides of the aisle appeared ready, if not eager, to confirm Dominguez for the position.

The Republican Party's problem isn't just its lack of popularity in national polling.
It's also the striking change that occurred after the GOP took over Congress.
The problem for Republicans isn't just the gap between the GOP and Democrats. The more pressing issue is the direction of public attitudes.
