Radioactive boars run wild around Fukushima nuclear reactors | 06 April 2016 | Communities in northern Japan are being overwhelmed by radioactive wild boars which are rampaging across the countryside after being contaminated by the Fukushima nuclear disaster. The animals' numbers are increasing as the boar breed unhindered in the exclusion zone around the stricken Fukushima Daiichi plant, and they are causing damage to farms well beyond the area poisoned by radiation. Hunters are shooting the boars as fast as they can, but local cities are running out of burial space and incinerator capacity to dispose of their corpses. 

 

Ship used to transport nuclear waste runs aground at decommissioned Swedish nuclear plant | 08 April 2016 | A ship used to transport nuclear waste ran aground Friday at a decommissioned nuclear power in southern Sweden, authorities said. The Swedish Maritime Administration says M/S Sigrid had no dangerous cargo aboard and was on its way into the harbor outside the Barseback nuclear plant whose reactors were closed in 1999 and 2005. The government agency said the cause of the grounding was unclear.

 

28 Pages --Former Sen. Bob Graham and others urge the Obama administration to declassify redacted pages of a report that holds 9/11 secrets | 10 April 2016 | ('60 Minutes') White House and intelligence officials are reviewing whether to declassify one of the country's most sensitive documents -- known as the "28 pages." They have to do with 9/11 and the possible existence of a Saudi support network for the hijackers while they were in the U.S. For 13 years, the 28 pages have been locked away in a secret vault. Only a small group of people have ever seen them.Former U.S. Senator (D-Fla.) Bob Graham: I think it is implausible to believe that 19 people, most of whom didn't speak English, most of whom had never been in the United States before, many of whom didn't have a high school education-- could've carried out such a complicated task without some support from within the United States.

 

One third of Iraqis thinks US directly supports ISIS or other terror groups | 07 April 2016 | Despite the United States spending billions of dollars and spilling American blood in the fight against ISIS, as many as one third of Iraqis believed as recently as last fall that the U.S. "supports terrorism in general or ISIL [ISIS] specifically," according to a recent U.S. State Department report. Forty percent of the country said the U.S. is purposefully "working to destabilize Iraq and control its natural resources." The figures come from State Department polling cited in a State Inspector General report that was published online last week. The report also found U.S. didn't fare much better than the murderous terror group in the minds of one third of Iraqis, who said they believed the U.S. directly supports ISIS [I-CIA-SIS] or other terror groups.

 

Obama ditched CIA plan to topple Assad in 2012 - former agent | 03 April 2016 | CIA not only backed the idea of arming and training Syrian 'rebels' to pressure President Bashar Assad but also developed a detailed plan aimed for ousting the Syrian leader, a former CIA agent revealed in an interview with US media. CIA officials were pushing for a multifaceted plan designed to plot Syrian President Bashar Assad's ouster back in 2012, a former CIA operative Doug Laux, who drafted the "ops plan" revealed in an exclusive interview with NBC. The White House and CIA leaders "had made it clear from the beginning that the goal of our task force was to find ways to remove President Assad from office," Laux told NBC...However, the final plan that contained many of Laux's suggestions was eventually declined by US President Barack Obama.

 

Shooter in Texas Air Force base murder-suicide was a former FBI agent training in Special Operations who killed his commander --A federal official close to the investigation said Bellino opened fire Friday at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland | 09 April 2016 | A former FBI agent who later enlisted in the US Air Force was identified on Saturday as the man who killed his commander at an air base in San Antonio before turning the gun on himself. A statement from the Air Force identified the two men as Tech Sgt Steven D Bellino and Lt Col William A Schroeder. The statement did not name the gunman, but a federal official close to the investigation said Bellino opened fire Friday at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. Schroeder was a weather officer who commanded several Special Operation units over the past decade,according to the Washington Post. He joined the Air Force in 1999 and in 2014 he became a commander of the 342nd Training Squadron.

 

Turkey terrorism: US Embassy releases emergency warning over 'credible threat' of attack on tourist areas | 09 April 2016 | The American embassy in Turkey has released an emergency alert warning of a "credible threat" of terror attacks in tourist areas. A bulletin named Istanbul and Antalya, a coastal city, as particularly at risk. "The US Mission in Turkey would like to inform US citizens that there are credible threats to tourist areas, in particular to public squares and docks in Istanbul and Antalya," the statement said.

 

Brazilian Security Forces Launch Anti-Terrorism Exercise Ahead of 2016 Rio Olympics | 07 April 2016 | Brazilian troops launched a series of security exercises on Wednesday with a focus on Rio de Janeiro and anti-terrorism security during the 2016 Rio Olympics. Commandos in full gear rappelled down helicopters with dogs and weapons, taking up defensive positions around Olympic facilities. The Rio drills are part of a larger anti-terrorism training program ordered by Brazilian authorities following last month's Brussels' bombings.

 

Last main Brussels and Paris suspects held, threat remains | 10 April 2016 | The main identified suspects in Islamic State attacks on Paris and Brussels are now dead or in custody after Belgian investigators charged two men on Saturday with aiding last month's Brussels suicide bombers. But while pleased with the performance of Belgium's hitherto much criticised security services, Prime Minister Charles Michel warned that further threats to Europe were still live...[Of course. Gotta keep those terror threats coming!] Mohamed Abrini, believed to have helped prepare the Nov. 13 Paris attacks, was seized on a Brussels street on Friday. Prosecutors said he confessed to being the "man in the hat" seen at the city's airport with two suicide bombers on March 22.

 

Legionnaires' death tally in Flint area rises by 2, to 12 | 11 April 2016 | Michigan state health officials on Monday attributed two more deaths to Legionnaires' disease that may be related to the lead-contaminated drinking water crisis in Flint, bringing the total to 12. The total number of cases in 2014 and 2015 was 91, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. In January, it reported 10 deaths and 87 cases...About half of the cases were connected to the [Gov. Rick Snyder-created]water crisis, Michigan officials have said. Flint was under the control of a state-appointed emergency manager when it switched the source of its tap water from Detroit's system to the Flint River in April 2014 [so Snyder could kill as many poor people as possible] to save money.

 

Expert worries U.S. Zika outbreak could be 'public health equivalent of Katrina' |06 April 2016 | President Obama announced Monday he is pumping $589 million into the battle 'against' Zika virus, spread by [genetically modified] mosquitoes [and/or the Tdap vaccine] and linked to birth defects in children. More than 312 cases have been reported in 41 states, all of them linked to travel outside the U.S..."If you start seeing babies with microcephaly on the Gulf Coast of the United States, it is going to be a public health crisis," said tropical disease expert Dr. Peter Hotez. "It will be the public health equivalent of Katrina."

 

New Ford plant will create 2,800 new jobs -- in Mexico | 06 April 2016 | There is nothing stopping Ford from building a new auto plant in Mexico. Ford says it's decision will create 2,800 new jobs by 2020 -- new jobs in Mexico. The move was immediately [and accurately] denounced by Donald Trump as "an absolute disgrace," and by the United Auto Workers as "very troubling." Starting this summer, production of smaller Fords will move from the Wayne, Michigan, plant to San Luis Potosi state in Mexico.

 

Hundreds flock to US Capitol to protest money in politics, hundreds arrested | 11 April 2016 | Hundreds of protesters flocked to the U.S. Capitol Monday for a demonstration against the role of money in politics, prompting arrests of more than 400 by the Capitol police force. The demonstration was part of a series of "Democracy Spring" protests planned in Washington this week by a coalition of groups. The demonstrators chanted slogans like "one person, one vote" and "money out of politics" as they sat on the East Front of the Capitol. One sign read "Things go better without Koch," a reference to the billionaire businessmen David and Charles Koch, who have promised to lead an almost 900 million campaign to back favored candidates this election cycle.

 

Sanders wins Wyoming, prepares to take on Clinton in New York | 09 April 2016 | Bernie Sanders won the U.S. presidential Democratic nominating contest in Wyoming on Saturday, besting rival Hillary Clinton and adding to a string of recent victories as the two candidates gear up for a crucial matchup in New York. Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, has won seven out of the last eight state-level Democratic nominating contests, chipping away at Clinton's big lead in the number of delegates needed to secure the party's nomination. Wyoming's 14 Democratic delegates - fewer than any other state - will be awarded proportionally based on support from individuals participating in the nominating contest.

 

Trump: Primary process 'corrupt' on both sides --Trump called the system 'crooked.' | 10 April 2016 | Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday said the primary process on both the Republican and Democratic sides is corrupt. Trump referenced Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who has won eight of the past nine Democratic contests, noting that people still say he doesn't have a path to the nomination. "I watch Bernie. He wins, he wins, he keeps winning, winning and winning, and then I see he's got no chance. They always say he's got no chance. Why doesn't he have a chance?" Trump asked during a rally in Rochester, N.Y. "Because the system is corrupt. And it's worse on the Republican side."

 

Disgusted Trump delegate burns party registration after he's shut out: 'I'll never be Republican again' | 11 April 2016 | A Colorado Donald Trump delegate left the convention hall in disgust Saturday after his name was removed from the ballot and replaced with that of a Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) supporter. Larry Wayne Lindsey said in a video posted to YouTube that he'd been a Republican delegate representing Douglas County for 15 years, as well as a lifelong member of the party - but he's had it. "I've been a lifelong Republican all of my life. And this corrupt bunch of thieves is not even worth fighting for," Lindsey said.

 

Colorado GOP hastily deletes 'Never Trump' tweet following sweeping Ted Cruz delegate victory--State Republican party promises investigation | 10 April 2016 | The Colorado GOP is getting some backlash after someone with access to the party's Twitter account posted, and quickly deleted, the following message: "We did it. #NeverTrump." The tweet came minutes after Ted Cruz swept through stole all 34 delegates during the GOP assembly in Colorado Springs on Saturday. The party deleted the tweet within minutes, saying the message was posted by someone "with unauthorized access to our account." But Trump supporters remained unconvinced, and quickly took to Twitter to decry the message, calling the party corrupt and "busted."

 

Trump's new top aide blasts Cruz for using 'Gestapo tactics' to win delegates and accuses the Texas senator of cheating | 10 April 2016 | He has been at the helm of Trump's delegate team for just three days, but Paul Manafort has already shown he will be pulling no punches when it comes to the candidate's rivals. Speaking to NBC's Meet The Press on Sunday, Manafort accused Cruz's team of 'Gestapo tactics, scorched-earth tactics' when it comes to the scrap for delegates. Manafort also suggested that the Texas senator's team have been resorting to threats and intimidation in order to secure backers. Asked whether threatening delegates in order to win them over was fair game, Manafort responded: 'It's not my style, and it's not Donald Trump's style, but it is Ted Cruz's style.'

 

Trump team vows to win delegate majority as rivals prepare for open contested convention | 09 April 2016 | Leaders of Donald Trump's new campaign team said they have revised targets that would make the real estate mogul the presumptive Republican presidential nominee by mid-May and that would win him the delegates needed to clinch the nomination before the party's convention this summer.  To do so, Trump would have to go on a month-long hot streak, starting in New York on April 19, that would deliver a sizable haul of delegates -- including increased commitments from those who are unbound...to avoid a contested convention. The earliest Trump could assemble the 1,237 delegates needed for the nomination is on the final day of the primary season, June 7, when the big states of California and New Jersey vote.

 

Man ticketed for flying Donald Trump flags at his home | 08 April 2016 | A Shore man is determined to keep flying a pair of Donald Trump flags in front of his home, even though they've been repeatedly stolen or vandalized and the borough is forcing him to take them down. In the weeks that Joseph Hornick has been displaying the flags, he said he's had to call police five separate times to report vandals either stealing or damaging his Trump flags. When two police officers arrived at his West Long Branch house on March 25, Hornick said he thought they were there to take a report on the latest theft incident. Instead, he was surprised to learn they had a ticket for him accusing him of violating the borough's ordinance prohibiting the public display of political lawn signs more than 30 days before an election.

 

Prosecutors say ex-House Speaker Hastert sexually abused boys | 08 April 2016 | Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R), convicted last year of a financial crime in a hush-money case, had agreed to pay 3.5 million to buy the silence of an individual who he sexually abused when the victim was a teenager, federal prosecutors said on Friday. It was the first time that prosecutors, in a new court filing, had said that Hastert had been extorted to keep quiet allegations he sexually abused a 14-year-old victim decades ago. In the filing the prosecutors accuse Hastert, 74, of molesting several boys when he was a high school teacher and coach in his hometown of Yorkville, Illinois, in the 1960s and 1970s.

 

Polar bears losing weight as Arctic sea ice melts, Canadian study finds Between 1984 and 2009 the weight of female bears in Ontario fell by over 10% while global warming meant they had 30 fewer days a year to hunt seal on ice | 09 April 2016 | Three decades of melting sea ice has led to significant weight loss among the world's southernmost population of polar bears, new data from Canadian researchers suggests. "It's a red flag," said Martyn Obbard, a scientist with the Ontario provincial government and co-author of a recently published study in the journal Arctic Science. Researchers looked at a population of about 950 polar bears who live along the northern coast of Ontario, stretching from James Bay to the provincial border with Manitoba. As they live further south than any other population of polar bears, the group is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change global warming.
