Saving Coral Reefs Means Slashing Emissions
by Nadia Prupis

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/saving-coral-reefs-means-slashing-emissions/

Climate change is the primary cause of coral reef degradation around the world, according to a groundbreaking new study that casts doubt on the previous scientific understanding of reef erosion.

Some reflections on the Twilight of the Oil Age (part III)
by Louis Arnoux

Our predicament, as we have just begun to slide down the fossil fuels thermodynamic cliff, similarly requires such a nexus if we are to succeed at a new “energy pool shift”.  Just focusing on thermodynamics and technology won’t suffice.  The kind of paradigm change I keep referring to integrates technology, social innovations and innovation concerning the human psyche about ways of avoiding cognitive failure.  This is a lot to ask, however it is necessary to address Tainter’s questions.

The Post-Abortive-Coup: Emergency Declared In Turkey
by Abdus Sattar Ghazali

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/the-post-abortive-coup-turkey/

On Wednesday, July 20, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in Turkey in order to hunt down all those deemed to be behind an attempted coup. The state of emergency was needed “in order to remove swiftly all the elements of the terrorist organization involved in the coup attempt,” he told a press conference.

Apologist In Chief: Boris Johnson As Foreign Secretary
by Dr Binoy Kampmark

In what is also another gamble, placing Johnson in such a setting will either have the effect of eliminating him as a future prime minister, forever condemning him to comic little England status, or embolden him as idiosyncratic, infuriating patriot.  The former Mayor of London remains erratically dangerous to his opponents.

Kashmir: Revolution, Not Rebellion!
by Mohammad Ashraf

When a small group of people defy the authority of a state, it is called rebellion but if the entire population stands up, it is a revolution!

Can Peace Overtake The Violence In Kashmir?
by Dr Arshad M Khan

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/can-peace-overtake-the-violence-in-kashmir/

And so the stalemate with Pakistan, where up to recently the nuclear weapons (as in India) were never on a hair trigger.  That has changed.  In response to India’s new ‘cold start’ doctrine — meaning the Indian army groups at the Pakistan border always attack ready without the two or three day (or more)  marshaling of forces — Pakistan has placed small tactical nuclear weapons in the hands of local commanders … while India maintains use of any nuclear weapons will bring a strategic response, namely nuclear ballistic missiles. Is the world ready for a nuclear winter

Still Across The ‘Line of Control’ And The ‘Unfinished Innings’ in Kashmir
by K M Seethi

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/still-across-the-line-of-control-and-the-unfinished-innings-in-kashmir/

The enemy within is invisible and the enemy across the boundary is still so persistent as to direct the course of India’s Kashmir policy. Even after several decades, the powers that be at the Centre seldom indulge in any political introspection with regards to its policy failures in the past, from within, instead of looking upon Pakistan for a ‘reasonable’ explanation of things at the ground level.

‘Voices From The Ruins Of Kandhamal’ And Why I Cried After Watching The Film
by Binu Mathew

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/voices-from-the-ruins-of-kandhamal-and-why-i-cried-after-watching-the-film/

Yes, India failed in delivering justice to these poor Adivasi/Dalits in Kandhamal. K.P Sasi brings out this truth forcefully through his film “Voices From The Ruins: Kandhamal in Search of Justice”. That may be the reason I cried after watching this film

From Nice To The Middle East: The Only Way To Challenge ISIS
by Dr Ramzy Baroud

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/from-nice-to-the-middle-east-the-only-way-to-challenge-isis/

ISIS will fizzle out and die when its leaders lose their appeal and ability to recruit young men seeking answers and revenge.  The war option has, thus far, proved the least affective. ISIS will remain and metamorphose if necessary, as long as war remains on the agenda. To end ISIS, we must end war and foreign occupations. It is as simple as that.

9/11: Bush’s Guilt, And The  ‘28 Pages’
by Eric Zuesse

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/911-bushs-guilt-and-the-28-pages/

The 29 pages also include lots more, but those facts give at least some solid indications of the links that Prince Bandar had to 9/11.

A Letter From Germany
by Linh Dinh

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/a-letter-from-germany/

A friend in Frankfurt emailed me on July 19th: It is sheer madness what is happening here… The noose is tightening and yet—it is still only the beginning… What took place in some dull regional express close to Würzburg, a town in Franconia in the middle of Germany, was—in some respect—like a watershed event—just like the mass sexual assaults in Cologne on New Year’s Eve.

Ambedkar’s Path Alone Will Liberate Dalits
by Vidya Bhushan Rawat

It was good to see Ms Mayawati in her strong way taking on the Sangh Parivar. She need to return to her old self. There is no need to read from written text in Parliament. It is time for her to now go back to cader and ask them to go for full blow.

Photo Essay: Life In Pieces For Delhi’s Displaced Community
by Vishank Singh

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/photo-essay-life-in-pieces-for-delhis-displaced-community/

A 2011 report from Housing and Land Rights Network suggests that more than 2,50,000 people were virtually displaced just before the CWG 2010 in Delhi. “How can they destroy our homes and call it a nation-building? How can they take our homes away just like that?” asks Gagan Singh (33), a former blacksmith, who now works as a contractual labourer. The community is currently based in a temporary settlement in a marginalized and deprived state.

Sri Lanka: Post-War Abyssal
by Nilantha Ilangamuwa

http://www.countercurrents.org/2016/07/21/sri-lanka-post-war-abyssal/

Here is the disastrous and forlorn situation that many are facing in the post-conflict situation in Sri Lanka. Seven years have been passed but the wounds of the bloody conflict keep putrefying society due to absence of healing. In his recent talk, one of the medical doctors attached to the Kilinochchi district hospital has disclosed few more heartbreaking facts out of countless numbers, on the socio-economic situation in the area.
