Let’s face it. In one way, Russia won the long game. And let me preface this by pointing out that Republican politicians don't care that Russia just flipped our election to install their own puppet president, and neither do GOP voters. They welcome it, now and going forward. Because that matters. That's about pledging allegiance.
Allegiance to their shared values in hating the LGBT community.
Allegiance to their shared values in hating liberals who fight against kleptocracy.
Allegiance to their shared disdain for human rights, their support for torture, and their rabid hatred of dark skinned people, especially Muslims.
Allegiance to what really can only at this point be called white nationalism and alt right NeoNazi culture.
Allegiance in their total disregard for environmentalism, their dedication to fossil fuels, and their obsession with meddling in the Middle East to steal as much of those resources as possible.
Allegiance in not caring that this creates terrorism.
Allegiance in their gleeful warmongering and ridiculous military and nuclear spending.
Putin’s election of what is likely a blackmailed puppet in Donald Trump signals a very real and very new global political realignment. Trump isn't looking into Putin’s eyes and seeing a brother in kleptocracy with whom to compete, as W did. Trump sees his sugar daddy. And now so does the new GOP in America.
Only 4 months ago we were talking about the Republican Party dying. And in a way it has. But it wasn't Ailles or the Kochs who swept in to rebuild it in their image, it was another set of oligarchs, and Red America welcomed them desperately and joyfully.

The USA is a broken country. Nobody stepped up to fix it, or rather Obama did, and could have, but Red America chose a different allegiance. They chose Russia. And they’ll go on doing so as long as Russia (or any other country) helps them win elections. Because they know the time is soon coming when they couldn't win them otherwise.
So to all of you liberals, Progressives, Democrats, and other assorted folks opposed to the new Trump GOP, it's time to face it. Russia just won a huge coup in the slow burning war that never ended, and they won it because Red America aligned with them over us.
The United States that Side with Russia, the new USSR.
Russia won, big. For now. All they had to do was abandon socialism for kleptocratic capitalistic fascism. It wasn't a hard choice for them, really. And now it seems Red America sees more in Putin than they do in us liberals. Probably they always did.
I’ll never hear the Pledge of Allegiance in the same way… not after this.
