Earlier this morning President Trump released a budget with increases in VA and Defense Department funding paid for by slashing services for the poor, medical research, education funding and more services that working families across this country rely on.

As those who served in uniform, we cannot be more clear: we will not accept increases to the VA and DoD budgets on the backs of the poor, seniors, and the security and safety of the American people.

We will not allow Donald Trump to pit veterans and military families against everyone else.

We are going to fight against these dramatic cuts. And because of the nature of Trump's budget, there are is no more important voice in this debate than America's veterans. But we can't do it alone.

We can pay for an increase in force structure, and more resources at the VA, while keeping important programs intact for seniors, working Americans and those Americans facing hard times. We can also fund programs that build alliances overseas, and prevent the climate disaster that General Mattis has deemed a top national security threat. But that's not what Donald Trump's budget does.

We put our lives on the line to protect the people this budget hurts. And we stand ready to fight for them. That's why your contribution is so important.
