Late last week, Congressman Ted Lieu, a veteran himself, called for hearings into the ambush of U.S. service members in Niger several weeks ago.
Congress should heed his call.
It is critical that the American people get the facts as to what happened there.
The military will do its own investigation, which is essential. But that should not preclude Congress from performing its own oversight duties as well.
As Congressman Lieu said in his call for hearings, "one of Congress' most fundamental duties is to conduct oversight over war powers and operations, especially when Americans have died."

We're fully supportive elected officials on both sides of the aisle who are demanding answers -- including Republican Senator John McCain.
Congressman Lieu's hearings would be a great start, and our hope is that Congress convenes them in short order.
