RSN: Harvey Wasserman | What Really Happened to American Socialism?

The Futility of "Emergency Only" Contributing
We are blessed with supporters, readers, community members who sustain Reader Supported News month in and month out. But for some reason, only when it becomes clear that the organization is absolutely desperate.
That’s something that we really want to move away from. For the sake of the organization and the community that we serve.
In solidarity.

“DOES LACK OF CONTRIBUTION CONFIRM A TRAIT OF THE LEFT?” - I try to live by the line from the Bambi movie, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all." However here goes. I'm a moderate with conservative leanings, but I believe in listening to both sides. Therefore I subscribe to RSN and make a small monthly contribution. Conservatives believe in paying our own way. What most conservatives observe about liberals is that they want to solve problems with other people's money. Particularly to the voters they court, they preach that someone else should pay. Seems the problem that RSN has in raising money from its large reader base reflects this liberal mindset. Thanks for the good work you do. Mass media definitely does not provide the perspective your selection of columns represents. Emily, RSN Reader-Supporter

Harvey Wasserman, Reader Supported News
Wasserman writes: "Despite the corporate hype, Democratic Socialism and Social Democracy are deeply rooted in the mainstream of our nation's history."

EXCERPTS:
Here’s the reality (as explained in greater length in my new People’s Spiral of US History):

In the decades after the Civil War, Robber Baron corporations captured the core of the American economy. Led by J.P. Morgan and John Rockefeller, they pushed family farmers and urban workers deep into the depths of poverty.
The American Socialist Party strongly opposed American Empire. It fought all-out against Woodrow Wilson’s plunge into World War 1. In 1916 Wilson had run for re-election as a “peace candidate.” Then he jumped in to save the British and French, who owed Morgan and Rockefeller huge sums of money.
To defend his hugely unpopular imperial war, Wilson shredded the Constitution. He jailed thousands of Socialists and peace activists merely for speaking out. He imprisoned Debs for demanding peace in a legendary speech at Canton, Ohio.

Trump's Resistance to the Impeachment Inquiry Is a Genuine Constitutional Crisis

Michael Wilner, McClatchy DC
Wilner writes: "An adviser to President Donald Trump who received material from Chinese officials last week on Hunter Biden's dealings with Beijing told McClatchy on Thursday that its contents do not expand on publicly available information."

EXCEPT:
Chinese Foreign Ministry officials responded to the president’s request with a statement vowing to stay out of U.S. internal affairs.
But U.S. national security and intelligence agencies have concluded that China remains intent on influencing the U.S. political environment ahead of the 2020 election “to promote their interests and policy preferences on various issues,” according to one law enforcement official.
A White House official told McClatchy that the National Security Council stands by its assessment made public in June that Beijing intends to influence the election to suit its interests.

The FBI has expanded its task force on election security beyond examining Russian efforts ahead of the 2020 race to include intelligence activities by China, Iran and North Korea.

Justine Coleman, The Hill
Coleman writes: "Thousands of protesters are expected to greet President Trump as he arrives for a rally in Minneapolis on Thursday."

The infamous Trump baby blimp is also expected to fly during the protests.

The president and his campaign called out the city and Frey, accusing them of "attempting to extort" the campaign with security fees related the rally. The fees were charged to the Target Center, and the center allegedly attempted to pass on the charges to the campaign.
Frey told reporters that he does not "have time to be tweeting garbage out, so it's kinda surprising when POTUS has the time to do this himself."
