"Henrietta" and her puppies are sleeping in the lap of luxury tonite, Thanks to so many people, sending warm, fuzzy blankets & Holiday gifts. The puppies are getting so big and even though it was a very, very rough start for this family, everyone is doing well. The baby's eyes are open, I don't have to bottle feed anymore. (Thank Goodness)
In another week or so, I will start to wean them, to give mom a break.
She is doing well. Still shut down and afraid, but she no longer cowers and will go out on her own now. We saw one tail wag. Feral dogs take time and truly, she has been thru such a hard life, it is just one of those things. We have been here before with many dogs and always make it thru to a better place. Just time, Love and much patience. Understanding their fears and helping them grow confidence.
Thank you, just doesn't seem enough to say, for the kindnesses, you have shown our rescues here. Please know, how much your thoughtful and heartfelt gestures mean to the animals here.
It is something most, have never known & would have died had they been left at animal control.
Now they get to Live, find New Homes & Loving Families.
Blessings, Love & Light to you all....
From "A Place To Bark"

At a time of the year, when people are celebrating the Holidays, there are homeless pets dying, at animal controls all across the nation. I've given up my holiday season, to pack my shelter to capacity with Lives Saved!!!

We have record numbers of intakes & record numbers of adoptions this month.
I wouldn't have it any other way, in a season that represents LIFE!
The heartache for me is seeing the huge number of homeless puppies at animal control.
We have taken in 10 litters this month alone. All will find homes, but the cycle of needless procreation needs to stop. Babies should not be born into this world homeless.
Please spread the word of Spay & Neuter far & wide!
The Lives of pets, depend on people, being responsible & the death cycle can only end if people are onboard.
If you want the puppy experience, please foster for a humane society or rescue.
When considering Adopting a pet, really think it thru. If you are on the wall, just foster. You can always adopt, if you decide you are ready. If not, you have just Saved a Life! Win/Win!!!

A Place To Bark - Be A Solution!

Meet "Stormy"
Cute isn't she?
Well this is One of those stories that will break your heart, but will also give you hope for the future...
Stormy was picked up by animal control.
A stray puppy, who was hit by a car and needed immediate medical attention.
Her front legs were raw & bleeding from being rolled under the car & possibly dragged and her rear leg, removed because it was broken beyond repair.
Well guess who did the medical work on the sweet puppy?
It wasn't me, it was Nashville Metro animal control. They have been working very hard, to take strides to do more.
And I have also been doing more, making an effort to go down and rescue as many as I can. I'm taking the dogs that others don't want, ringworm, mange, etc.
I think so many of us have become so conditioned to believe in the worst.
Seeing the worst on the Internet, the urgent pleas for the dogs dying everywhere at animal controls. So frantic to try to save them from euthanasia, we are losing vision that there is some good in this world.
Conditioned to believe the worst and forgetting that people are trying.
I've always been a proponent of solution. To complain gets nothing done, to work together and have solutions, well that changes everything.
So Today we celebrate that Stormy is alive, that animal control cared enough to go the extra mile to do all they could to save her life.
She is now a new comer to our program here at "A Place To Bark" and as soon as she is well enough she will be available for adoption:)
Change comes with Hard Work, Hope Faith and Solutions.

This & That.....

Five years ago, on a cold and rainy early evening in the fall, I was driving home on a north Idaho country road. I had to slam on my brakes and swerve to the side of the road because I saw a little, light-gray dog walking down the middle of the two-lane road; I just missed hitting him.

I jumped out of the car and called to him, and he came to me. I grabbed him and put him in the back seat of my car. He was very wet, very dirty and obviously very cold, shivering violently. I ...
drove home, and when my son, who was then in the 7th grade, saw the dog he said, "His name is Wally, because he looks like a walrus with his droopy, wet mustache!"

I told my son that we couldn't name the dog because he must have a home. As I was saying this, I was taking "Wally" into the house and directly to the bathtub. After a thorough bath, he was a totally different color: white with a couple of patches of pale brown instead of all-over dirty gray.

(K) Confirmed: Orcas Will NOT Be on Display for 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics

Disgusting photos deleted! Click on link for graphic images of carnivores consuming Marius!
Speechless...

The two-year-old male giraffe, named Marius, was put down on Sunday using a bolt pistol and its meat was fed to carnivores at the zoo, spokesman Tobias Stenbaek Bro said. Visitors, including children, were invited to watch while the giraffe was dissected.

Marius’ plight triggered a wave of online protests and renewed debate about the conditions of zoo animals. Before the giraffe was killed, an online petition to save it had received more than 20,000 signatures.

Mr Stenbaek Bro said the zoo, which now has seven giraffes left, was recommended to put down Marius by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria because there were already a lot of giraffes with similar genes in the organisation’s breeding program.

The Amsterdam-based EAZA has 347 members, including many large zoos in European capitals, and works to conserve global biodiversity and to achieve the highest standards of care and breeding for animals.

Mr Stenbaek Bro said EAZA membership isn’t mandatory, but most responsible zoos are members of the organisation.

Stenbaek Bro said Copenhagen Zoo turned down an offer from a private individual who wanted to buy Marius for 500,000 euros. Mr Stenbaek Bro said a significant part of EAZA membership is that the zoos don’t own the animals themselves, but govern them, and therefore can’t sell them to anyone outside the organisation that don’t follow the same set of rules.

He said that is important for the breeding programs to work.

When asked if other zoos had offered to take in Marius, the spokesman said yes but didn’t specify numbers or which ones.

The zoo’s scientific director Bengt Holst said the giraffe breeding program is similar to those used in deer parks, where red deer and fallow deer are culled to keep populations healthy.

“The most important factor must be that the animals are healthy physically and behaviourally and that they have a good life while they are living whether this life is long or short. This is something that Copenhagen Zoo believes strongly in,” he said in a statement.

Mr Holst said the zoo doesn’t give the giraffes contraceptives because they have “a number of unwanted side effects on the internal organs” and the zoo believes parental care is an important part of the animal’s natural behaviour.

The organisation Animal Rights Sweden said the case simply highlights what they believe zoos do to animals regularly.

“It is no secret that animals are killed when there is no longer space, or if the animals don’t have genes that are interesting enough,” the organisation said in a statement. “The only way to stop this is to not visit zoos.”

It pointed out some zoos work to preserve species of animals, but never individuals.

“When the cute animal babies that attract visitors grow up they are not as interesting anymore,” it said.

If you can't.......

This is the reason why we ask for monthly donors. When I get a call from animal control asking for help I can only help if we have the money available for the veterinary care of these animals.

I personally hate posting pictures of this nature. I do not like holding people emotionally hostage to try to get donations.

If you look on this page my focus is the good not the bad .
But the unfortunate reality is this is the world that I live in on a daily basis. I see the worst pe...ople do To these precious creatures.

This photo is from today actually about an hour ago. I'm driving dogs one way to meet their transport for adoption, while my friend Marcie is picking him up and taking him to Dr. Gentry at Gallatin animal hospital.
I will get him after he's been treated and seen by the vet.

My life is a constant whirlwind of animals in need & I never want to say no.
So I am asking If you can become a monthly sponsor of $10 or more It will help "A Place To Bark" do more in "2014"

This precious boy was found starving with an embedded collar by animal control officers.

His year may be ending found starving, emaciated & alone on the side of a road, But his New Life, New Beginnings, New Year Will be filled with Love, lots of people who will be cheering him on and a New Life ahead! More news to follow after he sees the vet.

To donate to his care: http://www.aplacetobark.com/donations

LOVE this message! Let's end 2013 and start 2014 with this in mind. We can all do something to help. Small steps lead to big changes. What will you do to help homeless pets in 2014?
