Perry Property and Jack Healey

Few were paying attention to Middleboro until the casino reared its ugly head, but Matt Carroll, Boston Globe wrote about some questionable land auctions over which Retired Town Manager, Jack Healey had presided.

Mr. Healey insisted on conducting the auctions himself, justifying it to the Selectmen as a cost savings measured. Apparently no one ever heard of Buyers' Premiums.

The land auctions that Mr. Healey conducted were poorly advertised and poorly attended.

And the previous questionable issues that had been raised caused Chairwoman Brunelle to request that the March 2007 auction be videotaped, which of course, it wasn't. But I digress.
The Selectmen's Meeting Minutes for March 5, 2007 reflect the following:

Mr. Healey also noted that there has been an interest expressed in Town-owned land on Beach Street that is bog property. Because the bog is not being treated, there is a threat of pests destroying it. He said he hopes to offer it for sale within the next month. LINK

The property was Map 104 Lot 2966, 26.08 acres on Beach Street Assessors (note cranberry bogs). The lot is on the bottom right side abutting Wareham Town property line.

On March 12, 2007, the Middleboro Board of Selectmen voted to 'auction' that piece of Town property that had been taken for taxes.

The advertisement appeared in the Middleboro Gazette on March 15, 2007.

This is residential property in the RR zoning district.
Hadn't the Middleboro Selectmen previously determine that they wouldn't sell any residential property?

Upon motion by Selectman Spataro and seconded by Selectman Bond, the Board
VOTED: To authorize the Auction.
Unanimous Vote.

Vice-Chairman Brunelle suggested the auction be videotaped.

Mr. Healey said there was some “good news”. He noted that the Perry property on Pine Street had sold for $435,000.

We'll never know if the Town got the most possible for this parcel, but it was one of Mr. Healey's many endeavors that makes one wonder.

When Marsha requested videotaping because it was customarily done at the bank she works at, why wasn't Jack charged with insubordination for failure to comply? He never did what any BOS told him to. Why was it allowed?

Jack's history speaks for itself. If you tried to get a problem resolved the only thing you could count on from him was that it would be ignored. Poor folks in southbridge!

Look at what Jack got when he auctioned all of the school buildings. $15,000 for the West Side School. He should have been shot, along with the rest of the board. Screwed the town out of fistfuls of money. It's no wonder we're in this pickle. The only reason he retired was becaue the only thing left to sell was the town hall.

I tried to talk Jack into buying St Lukes when the county got rid of it but he killed the idea. It could have been used for the police station and other offices, maybe for the schools. The rooms were classroom size. The idea went no further no one would listen. And now we have an eyesore owned by Mary ODonnell that she doesnt take care of in the middle of town. Jack made town government a joke.

The property Jack put his pre-fabbed octagonal house on came from Danny Striar at half market value, super fund harzardous waste sight king of Middleboro and owner of Rockland Industries property linked to the ALS cluster and other serious neurological problems. The neighbor's cows all died so it must be bad stuff. Neighbors complained about trucks loaded with contaminated soil leaving Stiars property at 3 or 4 AM at about the same time the earth berm appeared on the land Stiar donated to the town for a playing field on Purchase St and field of dreams. No one asked questions. Striar was conected to the New Braintree prison land and now the Avon fiasco. The man now deceased is hopefully rotting for his actions. And Jack's conection?
It reminds me of his comment that that yutz from the landfill was just dirty water. Southbridge, I hope you keep fighting. If Jack is for it, keep asking questions.

The brain dead boards we keep electing kept Helaey where he was people need to wake up and ask questions. There are few outlets to comment on how bad he was for the town but we shouldve been sitting pretty in this downturn but he gave away the town. Pay attention southbrige I keep wondering what he did that was good for Middleborogh and never figured out why he left Wareham a little fuzzy I guess

Once the Feds swarmed all over Mashpee, the tedious process began with reviewing records and phone calls. It will be interesting to see what unravels with Mr. Healey's involvement. Only time will tell and Federal investigations are known for being slow and methodical. Remember that Al Capone went to prison for income tax evasion.

Cherry St now there's a giveaway with plenty of blame to go around. Nice profit for the developers and the town got screwed with more houses
