Energy Tips #3

The following site was forwarded to me by a regular reader and contains some good solid information in an easily understandable format:
.
.
One of the glaring omissions from the site is LIGHTING, ignored by many. Since it constitutes 10-15% of household energy consumption (and I suspect more if you have kids leaving lights on), CFLs are inexpensive, easy to install and you'll see the payback immediately.
.
It addresses the major issues in great detail, but misses the hidden energy monsters that use energy when not in use, like: computer, tv, vcr, dvd player. It seems simpler to put those users on power strips that protect them in event of lightning or power surge and shut them off when not in use.
.
It would seem if you tackle inexpensive solutions first, like CFLs and power strips, moving on to progressively more expensive items becomes easier.
