So called "global warming" is just a secret ploy by wacko tree huggers to make America energy independent, clean our air and water, improve the fuel efficiency of our vehicles, kick-start 21st-century industries, and make our cities safer and more livable. Don't let them get away with it!!

An internet friend posted the above quote that gave me pause. I guess I was too focused on reducing my consumption to pay much attention to government policies. How un-American of me!

Fuel efficiency standards had not been raised for 22 years until recently, over the sobs of the auto industry, even as they were producing more efficient vehicles overseas. Hmmm. So how come I bought a car 10 years ago that got 60 MPG, but I can't buy it now? Could it be because it cost ~$5,000?

The President who said "Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do" (source) slashed funding for research, slashed weatherization funding, slashed energy tax credits and removed the solar collectors that President Carter had installed on the White House.

The rest of the world moved on, reduced their consumption, created jobs and businesses, did the research, invested in mass transportation. No Sissy Policies like that for Americans!

And the US invested in Big Oil Companies that are using their profits to buyback their stocks! What a deal! Bravo to Big Oil in Washington!

We even invaded two countries to ensure Big Energy's control over supply.

Depending on the report you read, Big Oil has 5,000 or 7,000 drilling leases that are not currently being drilled. Why should they? That might increase their supply and reduce their profits.

Only 25% of oil rigs destroyed in the Gulf of Mexico by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have been re-built.

The Alaskan pipeline was constructed to carry 2,000,000 barrels a day, but now carries 700,000 barrels because the North Slope oil has peaked. So let's drill in ANWR where estimates of oil reserves keep magically inflating like loaves and fishes. Wasn't all of that oil exported? Never mind! Such a deal!

The Oil Man in Chief announced $36 Million to research sequestration to keep Dirty Coal viable. It's the best method to rid us of those pesky mountaintops and create flat real estate yet to be found!

So, my friends, refuse to insulate, refuse those CFLs, buy a gas guzzler (the car lots are filled with them), crank up that AC, and support Big Oil and Dirty Coal! After all, it's the American Way!

At work and among friends, we're surrounded by those who lament the cost of fuel, drive SUVs, refuse to shut off lights or do the basics, never insulated and they always vote Republican. Go figure because we cant.
Funny touch. We're close to off the grid and sit back and listen to the whiners. Our piranha was installed years ago without permits because we got tired of fighting and much else so I wont sign my real name but we got tired of wasting that money. Amory Lovins has provided a treasure trove of usable information and has been decades ahead of his time.
