Deja Vu All Over Again?

When I read that

.
it was curious that the Middleboro Board of Selectmen has shown little interest.
The southeast region of the Commonwealth is blessed with some of the dirtiest air and the highest increases in asthma.
.
The concerns surrounding the proposed Brockton Power Plant are reminiscent of the issues that have impacted Middleboro that were ignored to enable the somnolent Board of Selectmen to now play the role of Victim in the lack of economic development, in spite of the businesses they deliberately chased away. Or reminiscent of surrounding towns that participated with Plymouth opposing a casino, while Middleboro Fathers dismissed the issue, at that time, because they were all knowing and didn't require the facts. (Did they have a deal on the table then?)
.
Middleboro Selectmen should change their motto to: Never Present The Facts. My Mind is Already Made Up.
.
Although the prevailing winds are from the southwest, does that mean all of the time? And those Nor'easters? And that rain shower of treated sewerage from the 250 foot tall smokestack? And what of the path of the delivery trucks? And what is the combined impact on air quality of the 50,000 cars per day predicted by the Casino Advisory Committee Report?
.
Not to worry!
.
After 40 years, untold deaths caused by the leaching chemicals, and a catatonic Board of Selectmen, the Striars will finally clean up the Rockland Industries property because they see an economic opportunity. Maybe in another 40 years, the Middleboro Board of Selectmen might question that they can't breath, if they aren't all long gone.
.

what's the conection between the power plant and the casino? anyone have the info?

Why is there a sudden push to build a power plant in Brockton? And why the location? Is it because of the casino?

It seems to me that Yunits' support of the power plant, his connection to Scott Ferson, his application for town manager would have completed the circle of corruption. Is that why Middleboro is ignoring the power plant? Was this part of the plan?

I believe what we are evidencing is called The Ostrich Syndrome. If the BOS bury their heads in the sand nothing bad is happening.

You got it!

That's the best motto I've seen for this Board yet. It's hard to believe that town employees elect them and think they accomplished something.

The Brockton Power Plant is a bad idea at a worse time. We need clean technologies not some glorified 19th century anachronism converting liquid dinosaurs into electricity and air pollution.

So why Brockton? Why not stick this thing in Scituate or Hingham? Because the people in affluent towns are rarely asked to host these sorts of things.

I fully agree with what you have written, Bellicose Bumpkin, but wonder what happens to the wastewater mist. Of the 1,600,000 gallons of wastewater the plant will use daily, what portion of the contaminants will be aerosolized? As you know, we have a major problem with unmonitored wastewater discharge contaminated with medication. Will that end up in the mist? Viagra and Prozac mist for all?

I never gave the waste water much thought, but now Im wondering. Is there anyway to get information? Has this ever been done before? Isnt diesle fuel that same as home heating fuel? I'm wondering if Middleboro Gas and Electric buys there power and the casino gets big user discounts that must mean the rest of us will pay for the casino power and Im thinking the same thing about the water. Why does this seem to smell?

I've never seen such do-nothing government as Middleboro. Except for the casino, what else have they done?

People get the government they deserve and I'm among those wondering why town employees keep elected the worst of the bunch.

When we watched the meeting we were disgusted hearing the comments from Brunelle. Where is her head? When she talked about the policy booklet stuff she never did anything. She is just usless. Are you going to coment on the meeting? Brunelle needs to stop pretending and get real. She doesnt know what's going on except for what her husband tells her because he reads the blogs but cant do his job. we need to see the town save money. maybe it begins with Roger's early retirement.
