ISO-New England: What are the facts?

The Daily News Transcript reported Regional electric dispute amped up and included additional details about the surcharge dispute with ISO.

The first eye catching statement indicated that the area being surcharged extends from Norwood and Walpole to the Cape:

Under the ISO-New England grid system,
Cape Cod and Walpole are both included
in the Southeastern Massachusetts zone.
Energy costs are shared across the zone.
.
Another curious comment indicated that Walpole with the surcharge is paying 11 cents per kwh:
.
The price of ensuring reliability to the
Cape is costing Walpole a little more
than one cent per kilowatt hour, Boynton
said. Instead of paying 9.5 cents, the
town will pay 11 cents for every kilowatt
hour of electricity used.
.
The Messenger included with the June 2008 bills indicated that the Middleboro Gas and Electric was charging 16.89 cents per kwh. That's a pretty significant disparity. Maybe someone can explain it.
.
The following statement is offered in the article without attribution, even as ISO-New England argues otherwise:
.
The extra charge resulted from the ISO-New England running two Cape Cod power plants in order to ensure reliable electrical service to the area.
.
Although the Daily News Transcript offers a more thorough explanation than previously circulated, maybe someone can offer greater clarification. The costs being surcharged to ratepayers still seem fuzzy and undefined. Are we paying for 2 Cape Cod power plants or are we paying to upgrade transmission on the Cape? Is there so much fluff built into the pricing that we're being overcharged $17 MILLION per month?

It sounds like we're being ripped off with too many G&E employees and elected Commissioners asleep. With Triner on there what can we expect? Another dead head town board that's charging us for employees to sleep.

Munis are challenging but what about the rest of us? Stuck with the surcharge?

the g and e didn't explain this and now Im more confused. Is this incompetence that we're paying more? It cant all be due to the cape. Im starting to think there are more questions we need to ask. Me contribute $4.00 each month to make the Cape energy independent? NOT. but to my town? you got it.

If I'm paying 6 cents per kilowatt hour more than another municipal company, do you know anything about what the others are charging? How do I find out? What is TMLP charging?

This has made me view the Middleboro G & E differently.
Other towns have done more with their municipal companies, but Middleboro sure seems to screw things up. Just look at the telephone service that flopped.

The Middleboro G&E for the most part provides good service. Each and every storm or accident leaves my neighborhood with no power. The roads are lined with dead oak trees that will take down poles and power lines next storm. And where is Barnes? Where is the G&E? Wait till this winter if you want to rate their service.

It would be nice if one of the Comissioners responded or if additional information were posted on there cite.
Why does the G&E use the highest prices around for comparison if other municipal power companies are cheaper? Maybe we haven't paid enough attention to what there doing and should watch there meetings. I stopped watching when Jim Butler left the board. What a watchdog he was! Maybe that's what we need.

I agree with the other anonymous poster about the trees. Barnes has disappeared but the dead trees haven't. Are these Commissioners so new that they don't remember the last storm that took down trees all over town? We were without power for a week because of the trees and it wasn't that long ago. What do they think is supposed to happen?

Why are we paying for the Cape?

I gagged when Marsha said the g and e should be on the green comittee. After listening to the Coffee Shop Talk show that included their reps what do they know? I cant figure out this whole thing. They waste there time but dont know anything.
