Heroes Protest Koch-ification of NEWS

The Dirty Energy Kochs have generously funded the Tea Party, Cape Wind opposition and PACs to convince Americans of their extremist agenda, raising propaganda to new heights.

Below, are protests to the Koch-ification of NEWS - including the Connecticut Hartford Courant. The Tribune papers have been leaders in journalism, a gem we can't afford to sacrifice to wealthy moochers.

From: FORECAST THE FACTS
Last Wednesday, Forecast the Facts members joined hundreds of protesters in a dozen cities to tell the Tribune Company: Save our news—don’t sell our local newspapers to the Koch brothers!
Stop the Koch-ification of our Newspaper

LA rally to Save Our News

Click here to see more photos from Save Our News events across the country.
Here are just a few highlights from the events:

  • In New York, Tia Lessin, one of the flimmakers of the documentary "Citizen Koch," spoke to the crowd about her personal experience being censored: "Public television officials withdrew their commission [for our documentary] out of fear of offending [WNET board member] David Koch. Imagine the chilling effect if David Koch were the owner of a media company, not just a donor or trustee."

  • Inspired by the protest, attendees in Hartford decided to organize a watchdog group to hold their local media accountable regardless of who the owners are.

  • In Los Angeles, 200 people turned out for our second petition delivery attempt. This time, the Times security accepted boxes containing over 500,000 petition signatures, including yours!

Our Save Our News rallies attracted huge attention, with over 60 media hits ranging from The Hill to Salon. We even got coverage in 5 of the 8 Tribune-owned papers up for sale. It's clear that the public, the Koch brothers, and Tribune Company executives are paying attention. But the Tribune Company still refuses to comment on the status of the sale.

It's important to keep pushing until we know for sure that these important papers won't be sold to the Koch brothers, or any other climate-denying propagandists. Can you make a $3 donation to help keep the campaign going strong?

If you can't donate, another great way to to keep our campaign's momentum going is to ask your friends, family, and neighbors to add their names to the petition.

Factually yours,
Emily, Jordan, Daniel, Brad, and the rest of the Forecast the Facts team
