House committee earmarks $69M for new secret prison at Guantanamo 08 May 2014 Some members of Congress want to build a new secret prison for the alleged 9/11 mastermind [George W. Bush/Dick Cheney?] and other former CIA captives at Guantanamo, a project once proposed by the U.S. Southern Command but then dropped because of a lack of support from the Obama administration. Republicans at the House Armed Services Committee inserted 69 million for the new "high-value detainee complex" in its spending bill Wednesday night that earmarked a total of 93 million for new construction at the prison camps in Cuba. At Guantanamo, the military calls the complex Camp 7 and says it's built on a clandestine location at the 45-square-mile Navy base and run by a secret U.S. Army unit called Task Force Platinum.

British soldier posed thumbs up with body of Taliban fighter in Afghanistan --The pictures, confirmed as genuine, were taken in 2012 at Camp Bastion in Helmand province. 09 May 2014 The Ministry of Defence is investigating pictures showing a member of the British armed forces in Afghanistan posing with his thumb up beside the dead body of a Taliban fighter. An MoD spokesperson described the actions of the soldier as inappropriate. Two pictures show the soldier, a member of an RAF squadron based at Camp Bastion, kneeling with his thumb up beside the corpse of a Taliban fighter.

Deadly Mariupol clashes leave at least 21 dead - Kiev 09 May 2014 Around 20 self defense members were killed and four were captured in Mariupol during the fight at the city police department, while law enforcement authorities have one dead and five injured, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said in comments delivered by Interfax. Three people died and 25 were injured and brought to hospitals during the forceful operation held in Mariupol, the Donetsk regional state administration healthcare department said in a statement.

Medical jet due to pick up badly wounded RT stringer denied landing in Ukraine 09 May 2014 A German medical jet, which was to be hired by RT TV channel in order to pick up RT's stringer -- critically wounded during a military operation in Mariupol -- was denied landing in the eastern Ukrainian city, gripped by unrest. A 23-year-old cameraman on RT's Ruptly team was wounded during the armed assault of Kiev's army on Mariupol police HQ on Friday. Currently, he is fighting for his life in the hospital; doctors say that he is in serious condition.

Russia holds military drills to repel nuclear strike 08 May 2014 President Vladimir Putin has overseen military drills on countering nuclear strike. The planned drills come ahead of the May 9 celebrations dedicated to victory in World War II. "We are carrying out tests of the readiness of the Russian armed forces. It was announced last November. The exercises will involve all branches of the armed forces across the country," Putin told reporters at the Defense Ministry.

Ukraine deploys 15,000 troops to Russian border, NATO beefs up forces in E. Europe - Moscow 08 May 2014 Ukraine has deployed 15,000 troops on its border with Russia, while NATO continues beefing up its forces in Eastern Europe, Russian Defense Ministry stated as the military alliance and Pentagon accuse Moscow of keeping armed forces close to Ukraine. "The 15,000-strong grouping of Ukrainian forces has been deployed in the border areas. Military conscription has resumed [in Ukraine]," Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said in a statement on Thursday. "At the same time NATO amasses its grouping of forces in Eastern Europe," he stressed, adding that such actions are not contributing to the efforts to de-escalate tensions in Ukraine.

U.S. pig snout in Syria, too: Syrian 'rebels' received U.S. TOW antitank missiles, will ask for antiaircraft missiles 07 May 2014 The head of the Syrian opposition says that he will ask the Obama administration to provide antiaircraft missiles and will try to convince American officials that the weapons would not fall into the wrong hands. In an interview on Tuesday night, Ahmad Assi al-Jarba, president of the [CIA-backed] opposition coalition, also confirmed reports that Syrian rebels had received American TOW antitank missiles and said the shipment had enabled the opposition to demonstrate that it was able to use and maintain control of advanced American weaponry. Mr. Jarba, who is visiting Washington for the first time, plans to meet with a senior Pentagon official, leading members of Congress and Secretary of State John Kerry.

Intelligence officials to Congress: Israel 'crossed red lines' in spying on U.S. 06 May 2014 Israeli espionage operations in the United States have "gone too far," senior U.S. intelligence officials have told Congress in recent weeks, Newsweek reported on Tuesday. The intelligence assessments were given in confidential briefings to a number of congressional committees dealing with proposed legislation that would lower visa restrictions on Israeli citizens wishing to enter the U.S., according to the report. "Israel has crossed red lines," Newsweek reported the officials as saying..."Their briefing was "very alarming, even terrifying," a congressional staffer familiar with the details of the issue told Newsweek.

US team 'on ground' in Nigeria hunt [for oil] 08 May 2014 US Secretary of State John Kerry says a specialist team is set to start work in Nigeria to help find more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by militants to destabilize Nigeria so USociopaths can steal oil. He said the US team, working with the Nigerian government, would do everything possible to free the girls. Earlier, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan said he hoped "a turning point" had been reached in the fight against 'Islamist insurgents' Boko Haram.

US Veterans Scandal: Shinseki Not Quitting 09 May 2014 America's top veterans' affairs official has said he will not resign over claims that as many as 40 people died while waiting for medical treatment in the service's healthcare system. Eric Shinseki, the US Secretary for Veterans Affairs, said he is "angry" over the allegations of practices at a number of VA hospitals. Whistleblowers have claimed that staff at one, in Phoenix in Arizona, created a fake waiting list to hide the true numbers of those awaiting treatment. Names of those who died, it is claimed, later disappeared from the list.

Fukushima worker files historic lawsuit over radiation exposure 08 May 2014 A worker at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant has filed the first lawsuit from an employee against plant operator TEPCO due to high levels of radiation he was exposed to during the initial days of the plant's 2011 disaster. The 48-year-old claimant says he was unnecessarily exposed to excessively high levels of radiation due to negligence on the part of TEPCO. The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Fukushima District Court.

NORAD sends F-15 fighters to investigate President Barack Obama airspace breach 08 May 2014 Two F-15 fighter jets intercepted a pair of general aviation aircraft in Los Angeles this week while President Barack Obama was in town, authorities said. Officials with the North American Aerospace Defense Command said the planes were "out of communications" and not following a temporary flight restriction zone over the city. The pilots landed and were questioned by law enforcement, according to the NORAD.

FBI: New Castle man threatened to kill Boehner 09 May 2014 (IN) A New Castle man faces charges in federal court for allegedly threatening to kill a United States congressman over his vote on an unemployment extension. According to a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney's office on Friday, Brandon J. Thompson, 32, of New Castle, is accused of making several threats via e-mail and phone between the period of March 1 and May 6.

Cops dead from 9/11 illnesses outnumber officers who died in attacks 06 May 2014 The names of police officers who died from ground zero-related illnesses now outnumber the 60 killed in the 9/11 attacks engraved on the New York State Police Officers' Memorial in Albany. The names of 20 officers have been added to the black granite memorial...That raised the total to 71. According to authorities, the 13 died from cancers attributed to rescue and recovery work at the collapsed World Trade Center towers in Manhattan.

Texas cop shoots 93-year-old woman to death while responding to 911 call 08 May 2014 A 93-year-old woman wielding a revolver was shot to death by police in the rural Texas town of Hearne, authorities said. Neighbors said Pearlie Golden was a sweet woman known to most people of this predominantly black community as "Miss Sully." The woman was shot five times, several witnesses told KBTX-TV.

Boehner Appoints 7 Republicans to Committee 'Investigating' Benghazi 09 May 2014 House Speaker John A. Boehner on Friday appointed seven Republicans to the 12-person committee tasked with continuing investigations into the 2012 attack that killed four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. The move forced Democratic lawmakers to struggle to overcome internal disagreements over how to handle the latest inquiry and whether or not to appoint any of their own members to the new committee. The committee was created on Thursday on a largely party line vote.

GOP-led House votes to establish select committee on Benghazi 08 May 2014 The Republican-led House on Thursday voted to form a select committee [of Koch trolls] to 'investigate' the deadly Benghazi terror attack, elevating its oversight of an issue that has become a partisan flashpoint. A nearly party line vote of 232-186 established the panel despite investigations by multiple House committees that have reviewed documents, interviewed witnesses and held numerous hearings. Democrats were still deciding whether to participate in the committee, arguing its creation was a political ploy to keep the controversy in play during a midterm election year.

Koch brothers' Americans for Prosperity plans $125 million spending spree for conservatives 09 May 2014 The Koch brothers' main political arm intends to spend more than 125 million this year on an aggressive ground, air and data operation benefiting conservatives, according to a memo distributed to major donors and sources familiar with the group. The projected budget for Americans for Prosperity would be unprecedented for a private political group in a midterm, and would likely rival even the spending of the Republican and Democratic parties' congressional campaign arms. A source familiar with AFP called the figure a "very conservative estimate. We're on track for more than that." [Start reading.]

NJ ACLU sues Christie administration for bridge scandal public record requests 07 May 2014 The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey today said it has sued the Christie administration claiming it wrongly denied a Cape May County man who requested all Open Public Record Act requests filed in the wake of the George Washington Bridge scandal. The lawsuit, filed Monday in state Superior Court in Mercer County, accuses the state of interfering with the efforts of Harry Scheeler, who routinely asks for public records requests made of state agencies to determine if they are complying with the law.

In North Carolina, Republican establishment favorite wins Senate primary 06 May 2014 A North Carolina Republican backed by the party establishment fought off Tea Party and Christian conservative rivals on Tuesday to win the nomination to take on vulnerable Democratic Senator Kay Hagan in November. State House Speaker Thom Tillis was projected to capture more than 40 percent of the vote, surpassing the amount needed to avoid a costly July runoff with the second-place finisher. Tillis's victory sets up a general election fight with Hagan that will be among the country's most hard-fought and closely watched U.S. Senate races.

FBI investigating Bundy supporters in BLM dispute 08 May 2014 A dramatic development in the saga surrounding rancher Cliven Bundy, the FBI has entered the case. The 8 News NOW I-Team has learned that FBI agents have started an investigation into the events surrounding a potentially deadly showdown one month ago. The I-Team has confirmed that FBI agents have launched a formal investigation into alleged death threats, intimidation and possible weapons violations that culminated with a dangerous showdown on April 12, and the first people to be interviewed by FBI agents are Metro Police, starting with Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillispie.
