TO BE DESTROYED 11/23/1 **ON PUBLIC LIST** Remy may be sick but talk about a wonderful patient. Remy has somethings going on involving her skin pigment and quality; even her eyes seem to be affected. Remy doesn’t appear to be in distress or overly uncomfortable. She allows herself to be examined most agreeably, as though she’s been through this process before. Remy is skinny even for a Shih Tzu mix. She’s 3-years old and she only weighs about 9-pounds. Remy appears to be the kind of girl who would enjoy long snuggles under a winter blanket. Right now she just may be entering a heat cycle although we can’t be sure. So, what’s a quiet little girl to do in order to attract positive attention. Remy really needs someone to adopt her right away because she’s hit the dreaded Destroy List tomorrow. Remy is such a compliant and tiny girl that she is easy to overlook in deference to the big shots. Will someone shelter the smallest of them all?

A park bench becomes a day spa with her, just sitting and chilling out and feeling lucky to be alive. Surrendered by an owner who could no longer keep her due to personal problems (his, not hers), he agreed upon relinquishing her that she’s a gem in every way: “Very” house trained and well behaved, kind to all, and phased by nothing–not even thunderstorms or bathtime. What an amazing family dog! Please don’t make her wait for her new family any longer. Another volunteer writes: Waiting sweetly for her walk, Hess is easy to leash and out we go. Described as “friendly and affectionate” by her former person, and having a “medium” activity level, what we weren’t told is what a good snuggler Miss Hess is. When I sat down Hess likes to come behind me, rolling in close for hugs, and ending up between my legs for a kiss. Low key, gentle and easy, Hess is happy to forge a quick connection with her human, and is patiently waiting to meet her forever person.

Taz doesn’t remember last Thanksgiving because he wasn’t on the scene yet. Taz is a tiny pit bull mix who was born after all of the holiday hoopla. Taz should weigh significantly more than his meager 25-pounds, and he’s enjoying the kennel service at the shelter. Taz is happy to be sheltered alongside his big sister COOKIE – A1057355 and housemate little MAMAS-A1057354 . Taz is so very happy that he wiggles and plays in delight. He has no clue that the shelter is simply a stepping stone to one of two possible ends. A happy lifetime in a loving family stands behind one door while a lethal injection stands behind the other. Taz has no choice in which door will be picked for him, but we do. The parade of deserving, needy dogs never ceases, but every now and again, a kind person is moved to stop and say, “Yes, I will save this dog.” Has Taz touched any hearts today?

TO BE DESTROYED 11/24/15 A volunteer writes: “She so enjoys herself mingling with other pooches and is dainty in playgroups…” Wow, we all love to hear this about a dog we have bonded with at the care center. Nine years old and adapting so nicely, Diva must really be a very nice dog. Of course, I had sensed this from day one when I met her. Such a pretty manicured gal, bright eyed and tail wagging in her kennel despite her relinquishment due to her family moving out of state. Diva has been outstandingly cared for, and if it was not for her greying muzzle, I would place her at 2-3 years of age and not 9. Although well mannered and calm, Diva is up and about, a great walker and very much house trained. She is very sociable, friendly, comes at once when called and sits beautifully on command. She is a real pleasure to be with. Diva comes with excellent recommendations. She lived and played happily with a 4 year little boy, understands a number of commands, is well behaved when left alone in the house and has absolutely no handling issues. She would be welcoming of strangers. All in all… Diva is a star as indicated by her name. I see her living in all kinds of settings, single owner, family, kids, other dogs and certainly if an older person decided to brighten up his or her days with a dog, Diva would be an excellent choice too. Thousand thumbs up for Diva!!! She is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center to meet you… and start her life all over again as your forever best friend.

TO BE DESTROYED 11/24/15 A volunteer writes: Egypt caught my eye while she was being surrendered to the care center. She sat calmly by her owner, having no clue that she would not see her family and her home anymore. I realized that she was supporting an aging and quite heavy body. She reached her kennel after many stops and was hauled onto her bed. I gave her a caress on the head and her eyes met mine. I so “fell” for her, an elderly gal who should be throning in the middle of the living room, next to the fireplace. Her beautiful, deep and soulful eyes, her exotic thick brindly coat and her shepherdy looks got to me. I really had to meet her. Egypt lifted her head immediately when she saw me. I showed her the leash and she raised with difficulties her bulky body. She stepped with extreme care out her den and managed our exit onto the street. She was so willing, so determined not to have her bulk stand in her way. We “did” half a block. She is such a great trooper. During our many stops, Egypt accepted my caresses and dispensed a large amount of kisses. She was having a hard time but not showing any aggression because of it. On the contrary, I saw only love and thankfulness in her eyes. Egypt is not interested in our meals or my treats but settled for rotisserie chicken and roast beef. She has very good taste. Egypt, owned since puppy hood, was left with us… because of household changes, whatever it means. She is described very much as a homebody who likes to be next to a human, rest, eat and just go with the flow. She is known to be good with children and guests and be afraid of cats as she was attacked by one in the past. She would be using weewee pads at home, I imagine because it must have been quite difficult to take her for walks. Egypt, I think, might have been quite a noble dog while in her prime. Years and arthritis have taken a toll on her and she has therefore adopted a more laid back look on life. All what her heart desires is to be with her person or even few persons (she is quite sociable and welcoming with everybody, people and dogs alike, here at the care center), be a friend and a confidante while spending the rest of her life, loved, respected and cared for. Egypt is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping that you too, will fall in love with her and take her home…

She is a Boxer Pittie mix that lived with three other dogs, she has had incidents with squabbles. The last she redirected towards the owner with an accidental biting incident. Hailei was surrendered to the ACC witha Department Of Health hold. The ACC of NYC SAFER results were quite good, but they have to take her history in consideration. Hailei needs an experienced foster or adopter, plus the help of a New Hope rescue. Please share, pledge and advocate for this girl that has been listed to be destroyed. Her life is on the line, and she needs someone with no other dogs. Hailei is young, spayed, and lived in a home that had alot going on, a change in environment can be life saving. Gently playful, she chases a ball and does a semi retrieve, and I can take it right out from under her as she doesn’t guard it. Sitting before she’s asked as soon as she sees a treat in my hand, she takes it gently and sits, waiting for another. Too cute! Sweet, low key and gentle, it’s almost hard to believe she’s still a puppy–her manners are that good! Mallory seems a bit uncomfortable around other dogs, but does eventually solicit play. As always, if you have a current dog, a meet and greet is recommended before bringing this beauty home. Uma’s as breathtakingly beautiful as her famous namesake, and while she may look like the picture of a well cared for pet, her body language doesn’t lie… someone has hurt this sweet girl in the past. A raised hand (even one with a treat in it), a loud noise or any sudden movement scares her. Tall male staffers set her trembling and she hides behind my legs. Out in the yard she prefers to explore a bit on her own before approaching for snuggles, and these tender moments when we can spend quiet time together over a tasty treat (Uma loves her food!) and some gentle petting are all the more precious for their contrast with her public persona. Uma is very affectionate in a low-key way, and aside from her instinctive timidity, she really is keen to spend time with us humans. You’ll usually find her standing at the door of her den waiting hopefully for a chance to go outside, and though it can be slow-going at times, she’s a good leash walker and seemingly quite house trained too. Uma doesn’t want to be bothered with other dogs and will warn them off with a low rumble, or if they persist, something a little stronger. A home where she can be your one and only pampered pet would be ideal. This tender-hearted darling has waited years to know what it means to be safe and loved, will you be the one to light her way to happiness?

She is like those kids who are so cute but mischievious and you feel like forgiving them everything they do wrong, of course. They have to be taught, and so does our princess Milkdud. She does not have a low selfesteem and braves her new environment, people and dogs alike with lots of self confidence. A ball, a treat, a play with another dog… she must have it her way. I love how she backs off to better move forward, sometimes on her hinds and beating the air with her front paws to get what she wants. She listens, though and will go into a sitting position when scolded. Milkdud is impulsive but smart and in the right hands could be a great student and become a fantastic forever best friend. Yes, I love Milkdud, I guess you got that. She enjoys caresses and comes on the bench to give slobbery kisses. She is very pretty, in an American Bulldog way, of course, well nourished and quite well groomed. A volunteer writes: We have ponies at the Care Center? Ooops – that’s not a pony, that’s Scooby! This gorgeous dog could certainly be mistaken for a pony, as he’s big, bouncy and fun. He’s already been dubbed, “a big baby” “a doofus” and “a big galumph” by staff as he’s playful, silly and energetic. Likely housetrained he potties as soon as we’re out the door, and will benefit from some leash training and/or a harness as he pulls hard on the leash. Intake notes say he’s friendly but mouthy and rowdy and indeed he is – all about being a big playful boy who has no idea that he’s not a Yorkie! Scooby loves people, play bows to other dogs through the gate and in play with others engages in rough, bouncy play. He loves to snuggle, leaning in for some serious petting before running off to play. Scooby needs an experienced home in which he’ll get the structure and positive reinforcement training he needs. Big, silly, playful and goofy like the cartoon character after which he was named, Scooby-Do, he’s asking you: “where are you?”.

He loves to snuggle, leaning in for some serious petting before running off to play. Scooby needs an experienced home in which he’ll get the structure and positive reinforcement training he needs. Big, silly, playful and goofy like the cartoon character after which he was named, Scooby-Do, he’s asking you: “where are you?”.

A volunteer writes: What I noticed first about Blue was his big goofy smile. Then I noticed the big dog behind it! It’s no secret — Blue is a big guy. When he first heard the phrase “the elephant in the room” he thought they were talking about him. He knows he could lose a few lbs, and he’s very active — so it shouldn’t be hard. Out in the park, Blue pulled slightly on the leash — he seemed very interested in meeting new people. A few guys came over to say hi to him after they played basketball, and he was loving the attention. Blue is already neutered and ready to go home. Come meet this Big Friendly Giant at the shelter today! Another volunteer writes: Handsome Blue joins us as his owner passed away and no one in the family can take him in. He’s a gorgeous redhead, clearly loved, well fed and well groomed and understandably a bit overwhelmed. We’re told he’s not had much socialization with other people or dogs as his person was ill so he was kept indoors quite a bit. We’re told that he plays exuberantly with adults, does not do well with young children, chases cats and other small animals, is crate trained, scared of water and loud noises, was given chicken breasts as treats, and knows ‘sit’, ‘quiet down’, ‘lay down’, ‘stay’ and ‘come’. Blue showed me his sit in exchange for a treat, does fairly well on leash (he pulls from time to time), wagged his tail at other dogs through the gate, and leaned into me for petting. While clearly stressed as of this writing, Blue seeks comfort in his contact with me, and even nudged my hand if I stopped petting him. Blue had been with his person his entire life so is handling his loss and upheaval like a champ. He’s high energy and loved having a backyard in which to run around. If you’re looking for a lot of dog to love, and want a dog who will happily accompany you on long walks, enjoy lots of play time and most importantly share some love, Blue is who you’ll want to meet when you visit.

TO BE DESTROYED 11/24/15 A volunteer writes: Lexy appears to be coming right out of a grooming salon. Girly, elegant, delicate..A classy gal in a beautiful fur coat. Lexy has been so well cared for…So, tell me…Why did her owners bring her to us? She comes with lovely comments..”Very good and gentle with children, playful, no handling issues, well behaved when left alone in the house, house trained and crate trained…” Lexy, unfortunalely has a large tumor growing on her mammary glands and her family can not afford her care…This is why she is with us and hopefully, we will find someone able to help Lexy. She is such a pretty dog but so out of place in a kennel and a big place like the care center. She is friendly, though and accepts my leash right away. She strolls beautifully by my side, does her business at once and squeezes tight against me when another dog is met on the walk..Lexy’s former master told us that she is afraid of her peers although never aggressive. She seeks human protection and this is just what she did with me. Free in a pen, she strangely circles and looks for exits in a very shepherdy way. She comes when I call her, sit by my side or back to me and accepts my caresses all over her body. Treats are right now of no interest to her. I so do feel for her and so hope that soon enough she will find her way to a loving and caring new home. Lexy, our little princess, only 5 years of age, is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center.
