US sets up secret Syria air base and deploys special forces to 'fight ISIS' | 23 Jan 2016 | Russia and the US have both established covert military bases in northern Syria, within 50km of each other, as East-West tensions rise dangerously along the Turkish border. President [I-CIA-SIS oil troll] Erdogan expressed alarm yesterday at reports that up to 200 Russian personnel have begun work to strengthen the runway at an air base in Qamishli, in an area controlled by the Assad government. Barely 50kms from Qamishli, US forces have established a presence on Syrian soil for the first time, according to local activists. They told of several dozen US military personnel setting up a base at a former agricultural airfield a few miles from the Iraqi and Turkish borders...US officials confirmed that a small number of special forces soldiers were being deployed, but declined to give details.
 
Pentagon to increase number of US troops in Iraq | 21 Jan 2016 | The US plans to increase the number of troops in Iraq as it seeks to "accelerate" its campaign to "crush" Islamic State in the region, the Pentagon chief said. Ash Carter met with his French partner seeking ways to bring Arab states "in the game," too. Aside from his bilateral meeting with his counterpart and "good friend," French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, the US Defense Secretary Carter sat down for the first with seven major members of the anti-Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) [but still I-CIA-SIS] coalition. The "face-to-face meeting" included Britain, Germany, Italy, Australia and the Netherlands, all trying to figure out in what ways they could boost their fight against Islamic militants.
 
CIA involved with Guantanamo inmates' suicides - former guard | 23 Jan 2016 | A former Guantanamo guard, who says he witnessed hunger strike "leaders" being brought to a secret CIA "black site", is accusing the agency of having staged their suicide to get rid of the "problem". At the time, the US said the men hanged themselves. On June 10, 2006, the Department of Defense reported that Saudi Arabians Mani al-Utaybi and Yasser al-Zahrani, and a Yemeni citizen, Ali Abdullah Ahmed, "killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact." Contrary to the official statement, unsubstantiated reports started to surface, accusing the Bush administration of hiding the truth behind what was described as a "planned event".
 
Guantanamo prisoner held for 13 years on mistaken identity cleared for release | 21 Jan 2016 | The Pentagon has approved the release of a prisoner who was held at the Guantanamo Bay facility for 13 years due a case of mistaken identity. Mustafa al Shamiri, 37, had been detained under the pretenses of being a senior Al-Qaeda [al-CIAduh] trainer in Afghanistan. The so-called Periodic Review Board (PRB), however, came to a much different conclusion on December 1 when they heard his case.
 
Silo-based nuclear missile damaged in maintenance crew 'mishap' - US Air Force | 23 Jan 2016 | One of the US ballistic nuclear missiles stored in an underground launch facility in Colorado was damaged in a technical crew "mishap" during maintenance, the US Air Force has revealed afterconcealing the "sensitive" incident for over 20 months. The incident, which happened on May 17, 2014, was blamed on three airmen...An investigation into the matter has been started by the Accident Investigation Board. However, it has not been made public as the summary offered to the AP said that the full report was classified on Nov. 9, 2015, by Gen. Robin Rand, commander of nuclear forces.
 
Assange to Be Quizzed Over Sex Assault Claims | 21 Jan 2016 | Wikileaks' Julian Assange is to be questioned at the Ecuadorian embassy where he has hidden out for more than three years over allegations of sexual assault. Announcing a breakthrough in the case, the country's president said a deal had been struck with Swedish prosecutors that will see the founder of the whistleblowing website quizzed about the criminal claims, without leaving the building. The Swedish authorities will submit questions to Ecuadorian officials, who will then put them to Mr Assange, said President Rafael Correa.
 
'Reason - BOMB': Passengers given terrifying explanation for free meal voucher after jet carrying 72 people from London to Stockholm makes emergency landing | 22 Jan 2016 | A Scandinavian Airlines plane carrying 72 people from London to Stockholm was forced to make an emergency landing after a bomb threat. The plane was parked at a remote area of the Landvetter airport in Gothenburg, on Sweden's west coast, where it was met by a bomb squad to search the aircraft. All passengers and crew were evacuated and later issued with free meal voucher which gave the terrifyingly blunt reason for their diversion as: 'Bomb'.
 
Student says 'ISIS' in Pledge, gets pulled from high school | 21 Jan 2016 | (CT) A 15 year-old high school student in Ansonia is under federal investigation for comments he made during class. In a statement to News 8, the Ansonia Police Department said that; "The allegation is that the male was allegedly making pro-ISIS statements during the Pledge of Allegiance." Ansonia High School officials alerted police who passed the incident report on to the Department of Homeland Security. New Haven Civil Rights Attorney John Williams called the whole situation a shame.
 
F-16 fighter jet crashes in Arizona, pilot's condition unknown | 21 Jan 2016 | An F-16 Fighting Falcon jet crashed in northwestern Arizona Thursday, a U.S. Air Force spokesman confirmed to Fox News. There's no immediate word on the condition of the pilot after the crash near Bagdad in Yavapai County. Officials suggested that the remote location and rugged terrain may have made it harder to reach the pilot. Luke officials said the jet was assigned to the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base.

Four dead in worst Canada school shooting in decade, suspect caught | 23 Jan 2016 | The gunman suspected of killing four people and injuring several others in Canada's worst school violence in a decade first shot his two brothers at home before opening fire at the remote community high school, a family friend and the town's acting mayor said on Friday. Police said a suspect was arrested after the shooting in La Loche, Saskatchewan, an impoverished community about 600 km (375 miles) north of the city of Saskatoon...Officials have not given a motivation for the shooting or named the suspect or victims.

Out-of-order chlorine pump brings EPA to Flint to test drinking water | 22 Jan 2016 | A chlorine pump station in Flint was out of operation Thursday, bringing in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to do testing to make sure levels of the chemical are where they should be. On Jan. 21, the city of Flint informed the U.S. EPA that the chlorine pump near the drinking water treatment plant was was out of order due to an upgrade related to the KWA pipeline, according to a news release from the city. The downed pumped raised questions on whether the necessary levels of chlorine disinfectant were in the portion of the city's drinking water distribution system near the treatment plant.

Flint: Officials confirm Legionella bacteria found in McLaren Hospital's water supply in 2014 | 22 Jan 2016 | McLaren Regional Medical Center officials have confirmed that Legionella bacteria was found in the hospital's water supply at their Flint location after the city switched from Detroit to the Flint River as their water source in 2014. Gov. Rick Snyder (R) and state Health and Human Services Department officials said Wednesday, Jan. 13, that the Flint area experienced a spike in Legionnaires' beginning in summer 2014 that left 10 dead and 77 others sick in 18 months. The outbreak began shortly after Flint stopped using treated water from Detroit and began using the Flint River as the source of its drinking water, a change made by a Snyder-appointed emergency manager.

Flint water crisis: emails reveal governor Snyder informed of problems a year ago | 21 Jan 2016 | Michigan governor Rick Snyder (R-Terrorist) was informed of water quality issues in the city of Flint's supply as early as February 2015, according to emails released to the public on Wednesday, but his administration struck a dismissive tone, saying the problems would eventually "fade in the rearview". A background memo sent to the governor on 1 February dismissed the pleas of Flint's then-mayor Dayne Walling for state assistance, saying that the mayor had "seized on public panic...to ask the state for loan forgiveness and more money for infrastructure improvement". Flint's water supply was contaminated by lead, poisoning thousands of residents, after the source of the city's drinking water was switched from Detroit to the Flint river in April 2014.

Bernie Sanders Opens Up 60-33 Lead Against Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire Poll | 19 Jan 2016 | Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has opened up his widest lead yet over rival Hillary Clinton in the crucial state of New Hampshire, according to a new poll released Tuesday. The new WMUR/CNN poll out this afternoon shows the Vermont lawmaker with a whopping 27-point lead over the former Secretary of State -- 60-33 percent. That's a climb of 10 percentage points for Sanders since mid-December and a drop of 7 points for Clinton. It marks Sanders's highest support and widest lead in any poll in any state so far. 
Poll: Trump swamping opponents with lead at 40.6 percent | 22 Jan 2016 | Republican front-runner candidate Donald Trump has a big lead in the race for the 2016 presidential nomination nationally, swamping his opponents with a 40.6 percent share of those surveyed, a Reuters-Ipsos tracking poll found on Friday. The survey of 582 respondents found Trump with a higher percentage of the vote than his next four challengers combined, with Texas Senator Ted Cruz drawing 10.5 percent, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson with 9.7 percent, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush at 9.2 percent and Florida Senator Marco Rubio with 7.2 percent.
 
RNC Strips National Review of Debate Hosting Gig After Cover Story Attacking Trump | 22 Jan 2016 | National Review will no longer be hosting a GOP debate in February after the RNC "disinvited" the conservative publication, the magazine's publisher said. The news comes on the heels of a harsh cover story from National Review, penned by 21 conservative columnists, calling Donald Trump a "menace to American Conservatism," to which Trump and the RNC fired back. "National Review is a dying paper, it's got -- its circulation is way down. Not very many people read it anymore. I mean, people don't even think about the National Review, so I guess they want to get a little publicity, but that's a dying paper," Trump said Thursday night, speaking at the Outdoor Channel awards show.

The issue will include essays from 22 prominent conservative voices, according to CNN.
 
Iowa's Des Moines Register endorses Clinton, Rubio --Strategists have raised questions about whether the paper's approval can do much to influence voters, and could even be counterproductive. | 23 Jan 2016 | Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Marco Rubio on Saturday won the endorsement of the Des Moines Register, the most prominent daily newspaper in Iowa, with just over a week until voters caucus on Feb. 1 and begin the process of selecting their parties' presidential nominees. In the dual editorials, the paper said Democrat voters had "one outstanding candidate deserving of their support," citing Clinton's "depth" of "knowledge and experience" and her ability to work across party lines as a New York senator, while stating that the "whip smart" Rubio [a lazy Koch troll] could "chart a new direction" for the GOP.

Monster Snowstorm Leaves At Least 17 Dead, Paralyzes East Coast | 23 Jan 2016 | A killer snowstorm paralyzed the East Coast on Saturday, effectively shutting down New York City and the nation's capital, while dumping as much as 3 feet of snow in other areas. At least 17 people died in the mammoth storm, which canceled thousands of flights throughout the weekend. The snow didn't seem to be slowing down for New York City, which in total was forecast to get up to 28 inches -- a jump from initially modest predictions.
 
NYC under travel ban from deadly East Coast snowstorm | 23 Jan 2016 | New York City and Long Island were under a travel ban Saturday, including all transit from New Jersey bridges and tunnels into and out of the city as a deadly blizzard left major cities, roadways and airports along the East Coast largely immobilized. More than 60 million people were under blizzard, winter storm or freezing rain warnings as the storm's effects stretched from Georgia to Massachusetts, according to Weather dot com. Some 250,000 customers were without power as the storm roared up the East Coast, according to the Weather Channel.
 
East Coast blizzard may dump record snow on Washington | 23 Jan 2016 | A winter storm that could bury parts of the U.S. Middle Atlantic region under 3 feet (90 cm) of snow slammed into Washington on Friday, threatening the nation's capital with record accumulations as it barreled up the East Coast. The blizzard started to blanket the Washington area during the early afternoon. Six people had died in car crashes as a wintry mix spread across Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky. The storm could dump 2 to 3 feet of snow on Baltimore and the capital and bring winds of 30 to 50 miles per hour (48 to 80 km per hour) before winding down on Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
 
Philadelphia flights cancelled as blizzard warning issued | 22 Jan 2016 | The major winter storm heading toward Pennsylvania was already leading to travel disruptions Friday, and forecasters said it was possible snow could start falling in time to complicate Philadelphia's evening rush. All flights into and out of Philadelphia International Airport have been cancelled for Saturday, when the blizzard conditions were expected to be in full swing, airport spokeswoman Diane Gerace said.
