We don't just have one or two gun problems in the US, we have many.
Our suicide rates are way, way higher than other countries, because far more of them use guns -- and those suicides are far more likely to result in death.
Our homicide rates are also way, way higher. And it isn't because of crime -- our crime rates aren't higher. In fact, some other countries have higher crime rates than we do, with many fewer homicides.
Our crime is just much more lethal. All because of guns.
And, of course, mass shootings -- made all the easier because of how simply one can buy a gun designed to kill many people very fast in this country, often without any background checks, and with a background check process that isn't sufficiently robust (I've seen some memes going around that buying a gun should be as difficult as Republicans have made having an abortion in most states -- and that point is spot on).
I don't think a 'ban all guns' approach is the right way to fix these issues, but everyone who owns guns should have to take safety courses, register and insure their weapons like they would cars, be required to safely store them at their homes, and be screened for psychological issues, and being on the FBI's No Fly list should certainly preclude one from buying a gun.
None of these solutions would prevent every homicide, mass shooting or suicide, but they would certainly reduce them.
