Regarding the recent hearing in Boston about South Coast Rail, it seems the state is willing to start the work on this train running through Middleboro to come to New Bedford and Fall River. This will cost much less than the previously approved Stoughton route, and can be started right away. The Stoughton alternative would be much more expensive and may not be ready until 2030, at a cost of some $3.4 billion, compared to Middleboro, which has been estimated to cost around $200 million.
Some of our elected representatives like state Sen. Marc Pacheco of Taunton and other advocates like Kristina Egan of Transportation four Massachusetts, are pushing for the Stoughton route. This is a great disservice to the people of SouthCoast, who would like the first alternative if it's available immediately and at a much lower cost. I urge all our representatives of SouthCoast to fight this cheaper alternative to have the train become a reality.
Let's organize a rally in Boston and make our point for the Middleboro route. Let's it make a reality.
Dr. T.K. Roy
