1 dead, multiple people shot near Azusa polling station; active shooter heavily armed, officials say | 08 Nov 2016 | One person was killed and at least three others were wounded Tuesday in an active shooting near a polling place in Azusa. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Scroggin said police were dealing with at least one suspect who was heavily armed. At least one of the victims was headed to the polling station to vote, a law enforcement source told The Times.

 

4 Shot, 1 Fatally, in 'Active Shooter Situation' in Azusa; Polling Places Impacted | 08 Nov 2016 | Two polling places have been impacted and a middle school is on lockdown in Azusa after a shooting in a residential area left one person dead and three others injured on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. in the area of Memorial Park on West Fourth Street and Orange Avenue, the Azusa Police Department said. Four people were hit by the gunfire, and one person later died of his or her injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

 

Marco Rubio Re-Elected to U.S. Senate | 08 Nov 2016 | Senator Marco Rubio, who stumbled badly in a bid for the Republican presidential nomination and then jumped back into the race for his Senate seat, was re-elected on Tuesday to a second term. The senator, a Cuban-American conservative, fended off a forceful challenge by Representative Patrick Murphy, 33, a Democrat who consistently portrayed Mr. Rubio as an absentee lawmaker with misplaced allegiances -- first to the presidency instead of to his job, and then to Donald J. Trump.

 

Florida Political Comeback: Crist Wins House Seat as a Democrat | 08 Nov 2016 | Speaking of Florida comebacks (Marco Rubio), the Associated Press projects that former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will be elected to the U.S. House in the 13th district. It's something of a demotion for Mr. Crist, who was once a popular Republican governor. But after losing a bruising GOP primary to Mr. Rubio in 2010 for a U.S. Senate seat, he left the GOP and mounted an independent bid against Mr. Rubio in the general election for the same seat. He lost that race, eventually becoming a Democrat.

 

ABC News, CNN, others name Duckworth winner in US Senate race | 08 Nov 2016 | (IL) In a race that gained national attention, Rep. Tammy Duckworth, a wounded war veteran and rising star of the Democratic Party, has been projected the winner in a hotly contested race with incumbent Mark Kirk for the U.S. Senate seat once was held by President Barack Obama. The projection was made by ABC News minutes after the polls closed, and was followed quickly by CNN and NBC.

 

Voting Issues: Trump Voters Reporting Ballots Switching to Clinton | 08 Nov 2016 | (Clinton Township, PA) Today is Election Day and...there have been some scattered issues where voters are encountering problems. "Every time I would push a candidate for the Republican party, it would come up for the Democratic candidate," said voter David Drane. Election judges in Clinton Township, Butler County confirmed there were issues with two of their eight automated voting machines. Most of the issues came when people tried to vote straight party ticket. However, others said they specifically wanted to vote for Republican Donald Trump only to see their vote switched before their eyes to Democrat Hillary Clinton.

 

Louisiana Voting Machine Logged Votes Before Poll Opened | 08 Nov 2016 | (Tangipahoa Parish, LA) A voting machine in Louisiana reportedly counted votes at a polling site before any residents had even voted on the machine. In the southeast region of Tangipahoa Parish, resident Brandon Allen filmed what he reported were votes being counted on a machine that had not been used yet by residents. Allen wrote on his Facebook page "Here in Tangipahoa Parish I just witnessed a voting machine that they had to turn off and call the commissioner in because when it was powered it on this morning and already had votes on the machine for the Democratic Party."

 

Colorado voters reject measure to create universal healthcare | 08 Nov 2016 | Colorado voters rejected a ballot measure on Tuesday to create the nation's first statewide universal health insurance program, according to local NBC News affiliate 9News. The proposition, called Amendment 69, would have created one of the most dramatic overhauls to a public healthcare system in U.S. history. Colorado's 9News reported that the amendment was defeated on Tuesday night, after early results showed an overwhelming defeat.
