This was never about FREE SPEECH

The girlfriend of a pistol-packing militia founder, cobbler and father of seven from New York — who was charged with bringing a tactical vest and a loaded gun to Saturday’s so-called “free speech” rally on Boston Common — says he brought it to “protect” one of the speakers.
Holly Blake said her boyfriend and fellow Liberty State Militia founder, Nathan Mizrahi, brought the body armor and gun to protect Tammy Lee of the American Freedom Keepers, whose website says it was founded by “patriots with a duty to stand in defense of our unalienable rights and support of our Constitution.”
“Tammy was going, and he felt the need to protect her,” Blake said yesterday after Mizrahi, 39, of Norwich, N.Y., pleaded not guilty to carrying a gun without a license, ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card and a loaded gun without a license and was held on $10,000 bail.
“The body armor,” Blake said, “I think, was a good idea because you never know.”
Police said they seized three ballistic vests in all from two “unidentified white males” at the rally and later found that one of the vests contained a .25-caliber, semiautomatic handgun with five rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. The vests also contained two Leatherman knives and two 3-inch knives, according to the police report.
When Mizrahi showed up at the Area A1 police station to claim his property, the report said, he told officers he had called Boston police before the rally to ask if he could bring his gun and was told he could as long as he also brought his license to carry. When he produced one from New York rather than from Massachusetts, police said, he was arrested.
“For two days, I said (to him), ‘No, do not go,’ ” said Blake, 47, who stayed home. “Sunday morning, I let him have it with both barrels.”
Also arraigned yesterday in connection with Saturday’s rally and counter demonstration was Mohammed Eldeb, 23, of Somerville, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Eldeb penetrated a police line, led officers on a foot chase into oncoming traffic and threw a bottle at one officer, according to police. He had a $500 bail set after his arrest Saturday, plus $200 bail on each of two warrants out of Lowell and Malden.
The other 10 people who were arraigned yesterday in connection with Saturday’s events were released on their own recognizance. They included:
•   four who were charged with assaulting officers;
• two men who were charged with punching each other;
•    two who were charged with jointly punching a third man;

•   four who were charged with fighting;
• one who was charged with causing a disturbance in the crowd when he allegedly clutched his waistband, where police recovered a loaded handgun, which he had a valid license to carry out of Shrewsbury; and
• one who was charged with running into a cop who was on a bicycle, causing the officer to flip over his handlebars and suffer minor injuries.
