What is a recall?
When a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a vehicle creates an unreasonable risk to safety or fails to meet minimum safety standards, the manufacturer is required to fix that vehicle at no cost to the owner. That can be done by repairing it, replacing it, offering a refund (for equipment) or, in rare cases, repurchasing the car.
What should I do if my vehicle is included in this recall?
If your vehicle is included in this recall, it is very important that you get it fixed as soon as possible given the potential danger to you and your passengers if it is not addressed. You should receive a separate letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, notifying you of the recall and explaining when the remedy will be available, whom to contact to repair your vehicle, and to remind you that the repair will be done at no charge to you. If you believe your vehicle is included in the recall, but you do not receive a letter in the mail from the vehicle manufacturer, please call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or contact your vehicle manufacturer or dealership.

TOYOTA AND LEXUS VEHICLES RECALLED OVER BRAKE ACTUATOR FAULT

TOYOTA AND LEXUS VEHICLES RECALLED OVER BRAKE ACTUATOR FAULT

Thousands of Toyota and Lexus vehicles are being recalled in the US after an issue with the braking system was identified.
Toyota and Lexus vehicles recalled over Brake Actuator FaultAt this stage there is no word of any Australian Toyota or Lexus vehicles being affected in the recall, though we will keep an eye on the situation and report on any information that comes to hand regarding cars sold locally.

The Toyota and Lexus recall affects 2016 models of the Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX 350 and ES 350.

Being overseen by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), owners are being told that the affected vehicles are equipped with a potentially faulty Brake Actuator. This fault could affect systems such as the ABS and Traction Control.
Possibly becoming damaged during manufacturing, the NHTSA warns that the fault could prevent the actuator from operating properly, increasing the risk of crash.

TOYOTA RAV4 smashes into Spring Valley Library, pins teen, injures 5 others

Is this another TOYOTA SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION problem?

SUV smashes into Spring Valley library, pins teen inside

The driver, said to be a man in his late 50s to early 60s, told police mechanical trouble caused him to lose control of his Toyota RAV4 before striking the girl, who was pinned beneath the SUV inside the building, police said.

"What the driver is saying is that he believes a recall on the car may have had something to do with this as far as the mechanical failure on the vehicle," Bosworth said. "We're going to look at all aspects of that."

SUV slams into Spring Valley, N.Y. library, injures at least 6 people

Sasha Goldstein

At least six people were hurt after a man lost control of his SUV, smashing the vehicle into the front lobby of the Spring Valley, N.Y. public library Tuesday evening.

The Finkelstein Memorial Library was still open just before 8 p.m. when a man in his 60s driving a Toyota RAV4 careened across the sidewalk, striking and pinning a 15-year-old girl and hitting four other pedestrians before slamming through the glass doors of the building along Route 59, according to The Journal News.

"It went through the pillars outside the building and came in through the foyer, coming to rest inside the library lobby area," Spring Valley police Lt. Jack Bosworth told the newspaper.

None of the injuries, in an upstate town just across the Tappan Zee Bridge, appeared life-threatening, fire officials told The Journal News.
The driver appeared sober, cops told the newspaper, and the crash may have been due to mechanical issues with the vehicle.
"I heard the car crash and saw everybody running," Joseph Duque, 12, told the newspaper. "I saw a lady with blood (on her face)."

The black Toyota never touched the actual building, but appears to have smashed directly through sliding glass doors in the front entrance.

The building is closed because the wreck exposed wires, the paper reported. The library is expected to be closed Wednesday but could reopen Thursday.

The crash cause remains under investigation.

TOYOTA'S PRETENSE!

One need only review the publicly available information to determine that TOYOTA AIRBAGS failed to deploy and protect occupants in accidents in too many cases.

TOYOTA ignored their customers, ignored their safety, in this case for YEARS!

Toyota Motor Corp. will recall more than 6 million vehicles worldwide to fix a variety of problems, including a wiring issue that might prevent air bags from deploying.

The Japanese automaker issued 6.8 million recalls, but because in some cases multiple problems affect the same model, it amounts to 6.4 million vehicles. The global recalls include about 30 models in Japan, the U.S., Europe and other regions.

About 1.8 million of the affected vehicles are in the U.S.

These latest recalls brought the number of vehicles called back by automakers in the U.S. to nearly 13 million so far this year. That's already well over half the 22 million cars recalled in all of 2013, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Automakers are on pace to match the record high of 30.8 million vehicles recalled in 2004.

Toyota said it will recall 1.3 million vehicles in the U.S. for the air bag issue. The vehicles are the 2009-2010 Corollas, 2009-2010 Matrixes, 2008-2010 Highlanders, 2009-2010 Tacoma trucks, 2006-2008 RAV4s and 2006-2010 Yaris compact cars.

About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available.

The driver's air bag module in the Toyota and Pontiac vehicles is attached to a spiral cable assembly with electrical connections that could become damaged when the steering wheel is turned. If this occurs, the air bag warning lamp will light up. The driver's air bag also could become deactivated, preventing it from deploying in a crash.

Toyota said it has no reports of deaths or injuries resulting from the problem, but plans to replace the spiral cable assembly with an improved version that won't become damaged as the steering wheel turns.

TOYOTA'S PRETENSE!

Toyota also said it will recall an additional 472,500 vehicles in the U.S. to fix an issue with the front seats. The cars are the 2006-2010 Yaris hatchbacks, 2007-2010 Yaris sedans and 2008-2010 Scion xD hatchbacks.

The rail of the driver seat in the cars and the front passenger seat of three-door models uses springs to lock the seats in place after they are adjusted. The springs can break, leaving the seat unlocked and allowing it to move in a crash. Toyota said it is not aware of any injuries caused by this condition.

Earlier this year, Toyota agreed to pay a $1.2 billion fine to settle a four-year federal criminal investigation into whether it properly told regulators about safety complaints concerning sudden acceleration of its vehicles. It also has paid NHTSA about $66 million in fines in recent years for not promptly recalling vehicles.

These latest actions bring the number of vehicles Toyota has recalled in the U.S. to about 3 million this year. It recalled nearly 5.3 million vehicles last year, topping all other automakers for the second year in a row.

But the recall leader so far this year is General Motors, which has called back 6 million vehicles, including more than 2 million for an ignition switch issue linked to 13 deaths.

GM faces multiple regulatory and congressional investigations into why it waited until this year to recall the cars with the switch issue, even though it knew about the problem for more than a decade.

On Tuesday, the NHTSA fined GM $28,000 for missing a deadline to provide key information that the safety agency had requested as part of its investigation. The NHTSA plans to fine GM an additional $7,000 daily until the automaker turns over the information.

GM said in a statement that it "has worked tirelessly from the start to be responsive to NHTSA's special order and has fully cooperated with the agency to help it have a full understanding of the facts."
