Vince Gill Confronts Westboro Baptist Church As They Protest His Concert

Westboro Baptist church got quite a surprise last Sunday when they were protesting outside of a Vince Gull concert at Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo.

They were protesting because Vince had been divorced and remarried, of which they consider adultery. He split with Sweethearts of the Rodeo singer Janis Oliver in 1998, and he’s been married to singer/songwriter Amy Grant for the past 13 years.

As the video begins, Gill is seen approaching the picketers. A woman asks: “Vince Gill, what in the world are you doing out here?” His answer: “I just came to see what hate looked like.”

At the end of the video, Gill asks: “Are any of you guys Phelpses? Or are you guys like the C team?”

That’s in reference to Westboro Baptist founder Fred Phelps, whose family makes up the bulk of the small congregation of the Topeka-based church.

The Westboro Baptist Church, known for protesting the funerals of children and soldiers with signs reading "God Hates Fags" and "Jews Killed Jesus" went to the Malibu Presbyterian Church and Our Lady of Malibu Catholic Church the morning of Feb. 24th 2013, and Brick Stone (comic Dave Sirus) was there to ruin their day.

A couple of members of the Westboro Baptist Church (of "God hates fags" and picketing soldiers' funerals fame) decided to stop by Russell Brand's late night show to try to spread their message. My usual policy is to try to ignore the WBC out of existence (it does thrive on attention, after all), but seeing as how Mr. Brand demonstrates exactly how to handle people like their members, I think it's fair to make an exception.

Teamsters form human wall against planned Westboro Baptist picket at bombing victim's funeral

Good luck being seen through this wall of Teamsters, Westboro Baptist assholes.

 

The attention-seeking scum of Westboro Baptist Church, true to form, threatened that they'd be picketing at the funeral of Boston Marathon bombing victim Krystle Campbell this morning. In response, Teamsters from Boston's Local 25 laid plans to form a human shield. By 8 AM, the Boston Globe reports, 200 Teamsters had gathered at the funeral site.

“It’s the right thing to do,” [local president Sean] O’Brien said of the decision to protect the funeral. “The family deserves a peaceful grieving process that’s free from any coward-led group.”O’Brien said the Teamsters mobilized their members and other unions through Twitter and Facebook yesterday. He added that about 350 Teamsters are expected this morning, “and we can get 1,000 if we need them.”

The Teamsters lined the road leading to the church. According to O'Brien, residents of Medford, where the funeral is being held, reached out to the Teamsters; Local 25 is a long-time, major force in the Boston area. Krystle Campbell's mother and brother are members of UNITE HERE Local 26, intensifying the local union community's sense of solidarity and support for all the victims of the bombing. Not that they'd welcome Westboro Baptist to any of the funerals.

The retiring 16-term openly gay Massachusetts Democrat called for the legalization of prostitution, cheered Washington State and Colorado for legalizing marijuana, labeled Justice Antonin Scalia “an unreconstructed bigot,” criticized those who took Prop 8 to the Supreme Court, defended the free speech of the infamous Westboro Baptist Church, and heralded the arrival of Congress’s first “gaysian” -- the election of Mark Takano, an openly gay Asian-American from California to the House.
