So you can imagine that it comes as quite a surprise when a senior cat is suddenly scooped up and surrendered to the ACC, when just a few moments ago they had a loving home and a comfortable routine. Now lovely Laurie has only an ID number and memories of how life used to be, back when it made sense. This is a very affectionate and friendly kitty (she aced her behavior eval with an average rating) who deserves a new leash on life. Don't let it end for this way. Please meet Tuxedo! He is a volunteer favorite! We met this boy today and one of the shelter volunteers absolutely fell in love with him. Not only was he gentle but he also was very well behaved. Tuxedo didn’t bark much and didn’t pull at all. He just jumped on volunteers lap and wanted to be loved on.

Tuxedo’s story: He was found in a park in Sanford, NC, being chased by people while swinging a board ...at him. The people that found him yelled at the people to stop chasing him and loaded him in their car and drove him to their house because they were afraid for his safety. They kept him for 2 weeks and tried repeatedly to find a home for him, even had an appt to get him neutered before he would be able to leave their home. Through no fault of their own or his they had to make the decision to take him to the shelter. You see they have two dogs already and the rental company saw them with a third dog and told them they had to give up one. I advised them against the shelter because I hate it when any animal has to be put in that situation, high stress and uncertainty, and I know how hard you all work to save those precious lives, I've even participated myself with transport. Under the circumstances I don't know what else they could have done. I wish I could have helped in this situation, more than just sharing him on fb before he was taken there, but I too have the max number of animals I'm allowed by my rental. He is such a sweet boy! I hope he gets a loving home soon! I understand that part of his adoption fee has been sponsored by these good Samaritans.

Additional info: Tuxedo has done well with other dogs but he needs proper introduction and time to warm up.

From all of the comments I've been reading the adopter said would hire a trainer to introduce Bella to her dog properly. She didn't and the dogs didn't get along so she's back at the shelter. Ross is a puppy and puppies naturally have a LOT of energy - is that a good reason to kill them? As with human children, Ross needs guidance, and someone to teach him 'right' from 'wrong' and most of all how to 'play well with others'! A Volunteer writes: "...He's extremely friendly and just loves to be cuddled, wiggling his butt with pleasure as I rub his side and getting up beside me on the bench to offer lots of eager kisses. Clearly Ross' former owner gave him some training as he keeps a spotless den and once we're outside, takes care of his bathroom duties promptly and frequently. When I offer a treat he sits obediently and takes it nicely from my hand with a firm mouth but no grabbiness. Every human Ross meets is an instant best friend but it seems he's more choosy when it comes to his fellow pooches. ..."  Ross' Scottish name really is the perfect fit for a guy with bright red hair and all the high-spirited energy and loyal devotion of a highland clansman. He's extremely friendly and just loves to be cuddled, wiggling his butt with pleasure as I rub his side and getting up beside me on the bench to offer lots of eager kisses.  Every human Ross meets is an instant best friend but it seems he's more choosy when it comes to his fellow pooches. A quiet pittie is standing in the pen next to ours and Ross greets him through the fence with friendly sniffing and a wagging tail yet when we pass other dogs in the street, both large and small, he pulls and barks in a very non-friendly way. The unfamiliar environment of the Care Center has left Ross a bit out of sorts and I discover that a walk in the park is no 'walk in the park' when he's along for the ride! While he's very responsive to my voice and waits patiently for the lights to change at each crossing we come to, he pulls extremely hard on the leash and his new parents will need to address this issue with additional training. Ross is strong in spirit and soft of heart, beautiful, affectionate and just a little bit mysterious - a legend in the making. If you've seen the movie Braveheart you already know exactly what our honorary Scotsman is dreaming of and what only you can give him...Freedom! 12/12/2013

"He LOVES to play fetch, eagerly with a wagging tail chasing after the ball and bringing it back for another toss," writes a MACC volunteer. "I can easily take the ball out of his mouth, he keeps his eye on it just waiting for the next toss and off he goes! Trunk never chews the ball - just diligently brings it back for another toss. Kiss, hug, retrieve, kiss, hug, retrieve, repeat, repeat, re...peat. I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon. Trunk is handsome in his brindle coat, although he could use an additional few pounds on his elegant frame.... He is appropriately tail waggingly friendly with other dogs, getting a bit vocal in his greeting. He's happy, exuberant and wants us all to know it - too cute! Trunk sits when asked to, accepts treats gently and keeps an eye on the treat when we stop to take some photos."
Trunk is looking for a ball playing, affectionate family to call his own, and he needs them to find him FAST. He's on the euth list at Manhattan ACC only because he caught the shelter "cold." URGENT RESCUE NEEDED..!!!

My name is Lucas and I'm an approximately 3 year old male Golden Retriever. I am already neutered. I have been at the Agoura Animal Care Center since November 29, 2013. I am available on November 29, 2013. You can visit me at my temporary home at A043.

Remember Lucas? He was sitting in Baldwin Park along with 3 other "biters" awaiting his fate for nipping his owner who was cleaning his ears at the time. Lucas was "rescued" but did not receive the training he needed so he found himself in a situation he felt needed correcting and nipped again. Once again he finds himself sitting on death row in a different shelter for doing what comes naturally to a dog when they feel the need to defend themselves for whatever reason, they bite. Dogs sometimes bite…simple as that. And now Lucas may die because he did not get the training he needed to ensure his success.

We will need a miracle to save him but if we all pull together we can help this deserving boy. We need a rescue who is partnered with Agoura shelter that is willing to pull him to safety and help get him into the board and train program where he can learn to be successful. Their family recently lost their home and are living in a campground, in a small rv in Tampa, FL. Dogs are good w people and other dogs. The family has a 1 mos old baby. They have had no luck finding a new home that will allow the dogs, so they have to surrender them. Found near death Monday night outside a MD shelter, hypothermic and emaciated, and infested with fleas. We know everyone is really busy getting ready for your holiday feast, travel etc., but we ask you take a moment to help LILAC, if you can. This is a very sad holiday story-we received a plea last night about a 1-3 year old, emaciated lab mix that was found, dumped outside a MD shelter barely alive. Lilac must be strong to have survived the night because she was found outside in the bitter cold, dark night, starving, hypothermic and crawling w fleas. Thank god nice people found her and the shelter rushed her to an ER vet. She weighs only 23 lbs and could barely stand. The vets gave her a blood transfusion and put her on fluids immediately. She now needs your help.

Despite her horrid past, Lilac is all about thanks and giving kisses. She knows she is safe now. No one will ever harm her again. I thought she was older, due to her enlarged eyes, and their condition, but she then turned into a young HAPPY HAPPY, enthusiastic, lap loving squiggle worm!
