Middleboro Board of Selectmen November 3, 2008

In response to a comment regarding the selection of a new Fire Chief, Please post here when they make a selection. thanks... , I can only suggest that you might want to watch the Selectmen's Meeting. The matter does not appear listed on the Agenda.
.
From the Middleboro's Selectmen's Agenda for November 3, 2008.
.

As a footnote, a fair number of us held out high hopes with a new BOS Chairman, but we seem to be returning to Mushroom Farming.
.
We seem to have the illusion of transparency with great pretense.

Several people have commented that the 3 contracts that were to be approved at the Special Town Meeting were signed by 3 Selectmen on October 20, 2008, which was the original date of the STM. They were given to the FinCom at that time and of course, the FinCom was unable to review the figures or make a recommendation since they didn't have an intervening meeting. That begs the question 'At what PUBLIC MEETING were the contracts discussed?' Oh, so the Selectmen just sign contracts without discussing? Don't bother with public meetings? Now, I don't want to wade into a discussion of Open Meeting Law, but we seem to be conducting or not conducting Town Business out of public view, yet again!

.

When questioned at STM, Mr. Cristello seemed to believe it was acceptable to merely dismiss the contract issue with a casual response indicating that that's the way it sometimes happens. Well, Mr. Cristello, after being presented with an STM Warrant that was lacking, vague, omitted the town committee article and pretty unacceptable, we're willing to allow for a learning curve, but not denial of information.

Those of us who had higher expectations for the new Town Manager need to watch more closely and maybe remind him where we came from. Mushroom Farming wasn't profitable in the past!

Why should the BOS be insulted receving anonymus letters? Many of us only wish we wrote some of them. If voters were watching we wouldn't have this Board.

Spend some time on business.

Does it make cents to spend so much time with spirits and hauntings in the town hall?

When 3 selectmen are mebers of a group that has nothing better to do on a Sat night you got problems.

If the BOS voted to accept and approve the Warrant as presented by the new TM, whose fault is that Warrant?
There wasn't enough time. There wasn't enough information.
We either have to change this with a Charter change or continue to tolerate government by clowns.
BTW I supported the recall for this reason.
