Vicious Global Warming Feedback Loop Worse Than Feared
By Jacob
Chamberlain
http://www.countercurrents.org/chamberlain200214.htm
One
of nature's key defenses against global warming—the reflection of the sun's rays
away from Earth by Arctic sea ice—has fallen victim to... global warming. And
according to a study published Monday, the vicious feedback loop is worse than
previously thought. The new research, published in the Proceedings of the
National Academy of Sciences, shows the ability of the Arctic ice to reflect
sunlight—known scientifically as albedo—has decreased dramatically since 1979,
with the calculations showing the region's ability to reflect sunlight
diminished more than twice what previous studies have shown
The
Libyan Bedlam: General Hifter, The CIA And The Unfinished Coup
By Ramzy

On
Friday, Feb 14, 92 prisoners escaped from their prison in the Libyan town of
Zliten. 19 of them were eventually recaptured, two of whom were wounded in
clashes with the guards. It was just another daily episode highlighting the
utter chaos which has engulfed Libya since the overthrow of Muammar Ghaddafi in
2011. On that same Friday, Feb 14, Maj. Gen. Khalifa Hifter announced a coup in
Libya

It’s Him: Zawahiri Asks For An
Intifada In Bangladesh
By Taj Hashmi
http://www.countercurrents.org/hashmi200214.htm
Bangladeshis
should not waste time debating the credibility of the Zawahiri podcast, and
blaming each other for “doctoring” the audio for reason X or reason Y. In the
backdrop of the Zawahiri message, there is no room for complacency in Bangladesh
only because the overwhelming majority of Bangladeshi Muslims hate religious
extremism. Al Qaeda never terrorises and bleeds nations with the support of the
majorities. A handful of al Qaeda activists are more than enough to destabilize
a country for decades

Spurious
or not the al-Qaida message makes it even more imperative for the administration
and the ruling party to urgently work toward a resolution of the existing
political crisis which they themselves have created
Lawrence Lessig's
Wrongheaded March To End Corruption
By John Spritzler
http://www.countercurrents.org/spritzler200214.htm
Lawrence
Lessig, a Harvard Constitutional scholar (like President Obama once was), is
leading a march against corruption, by which he means the inordinate influence
of Big Money on Congress. As well-intentioned as the people following Lessig may
be, and as well-intentioned as Lessig himself may be, their proposed solution to
the problem of Big Money power in the United States is
wrongheaded
Another World Is Possible
By Mazin Qumsiyeh

A
visit to the Galilee just emphasized to me that we are on the right track to one
democratic state where we live together in equality, peace, and harmony. Another
world is coming. As you will see below, there is no difference in colonial
settlement activity inside 1948 or 1967 occupied areas but that is all temporary
phenomenon. Since my trip was focused on environmental issues and science
(biodiversity), I was more concerned about time passage that makes the
environmental destruction in the Galilee irreversible
