The army said in a statement late Thursday that after 10 days of Hamas attacks, it had "initiated a ground operation within the Gaza Strip." The army did not say how many troops were involved or provide other details. See also: Israeli military begins ground offensive in Gaza.

"I can say that Putin's plane and the Malaysian Boeing intersected at the same point and the same echelon. That was close to Warsaw on 330-m echelon at the height of 10,100 meters. The presidential jet was there at 16:21 Moscow time and the Malaysian aircraft - 15:44 Moscow time," a source told the news agency on condition of anonymity. "The contours of the aircrafts are similar, linear dimensions are also very similar, as for the coloring, at a quite remote distance they are almost identical", the source added.

Edward Snowden should not face trial, says UN human rights commissioner 16 Jul 2014 The United Nations' top human rights official has suggested that the United States should abandon its efforts to prosecute Edward Snowden, saying his revelations of massive state surveillance had been in the public interest. The UN high commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay, credited Snowden, a former US National Security Agency contractor, with starting a global debate that has led to calls for the curtailing of state powers to snoop on citizens online and store their data. "Those who disclose human rights violations should be protected: we need them," Pillay told a news conference.

The person would be liable for a 10-year term if the disclosure would "endanger the health or safety of any person or prejudice the effective conduct of a special intelligence operation".
