| Hundreds of thousands of peaceful demonstrators marched through Manhattan on Sunday to draw attention to climate change. Sen. Bernie Sanders joined the march that organizers said drew more than 300,000 people. Sanders is the sponsor of a bill to put a tax on carbon and methane emissions that cause global warming. He said Republicans in Congress have blocked the legislation and limited what President Barack Obama can do. “You have a major political party that is rejecting science and is impeding us on every step of the way," Sanders said. “The only way we make change is by doing exactly what we are doing today—taking to the streets.” Sanders was among more than 900 Vermonters who came to New York on buses organized by 350.org, the leading environmental organization founded by fellow Vermonter Bill McKibben. |
