"just in case conservative folks in the GOP, on Fox News, and around the world choose to misunderstand Pope Francis’ message and apply a very narrow definition of the word “slavery,” His Holiness makes it abundantly clear that he objects to any exploitation of workers and our fellow human beings"

The GOP and Catholic Church had a cozy alliance, until Pope Francis ruined everything.

US corporations have stashed a record $2.1 trillion in offshore tax havens, according to a new report. To put that into perspective, 1.1% of those untaxed profits could provide housing to all of the 2.5 million homeless children living in the US. This is revolting.
[Math: 2.5 million homeless children times $10,000 cost to providing housing=$25 billion, or 1.1% of $2.1 trillion]

Hmmmm, making profit off the capture and detainment of human beings, looks like the reports of the end of slavery was premature.

"while Americans are absolutely fed up with politicians (and Republicans, in particular), the pope enjoys an incredible 78 percent approval rating among all Americans, and an even more astonishing 93 percent approval from Catholics. The pope’s popularity is so high that presumably the one or two Catholics polled who said they didn’t approve of his work had names like “Paul Ryan” and “Marco Rubio.”
But while some conservative politicians are angry, nothing quite compares to how livid Fox News is. The conservative network is having an absolute freakout because, at least from their perspective, the pope is making conservatives look like bigoted, anti-science, heartless monsters – and worse, if those poll numbers are to be believed, people seem to agree with him."

By preaching tolerance and scientific literacy, the pope stands for everything conservatives don't. And Fox News is freaking out about it.

When children realize they've done something offensive, they're ashamed.
American Racists don't even have that sense of decency.

The politics of fear.

" Rep. Paul Broun, a Georgia Republican who once declared evolution and the Big Bang Theory “lies straight from the pit of hell,” lost a U.S. Senate primary this year and won’t be returning to the House. Neither will Michele Bachmann, who needs no introduction.
But the departure of such inflammatory conservatives hardly means that the 114th Congress will be a more sober one. Indeed, the crop of Republicans taking power next month is even further to the right than the current House GOP conference. The newly Republican Senate, too, will feature more than its fair share of ultraconservative hard-liners. "

These five hard-right Republicans promise to make the 114th Congress a spectacularly awful one
