Pew Report: 84 Percent Of World Population Subsists On Under $20 Per Day
By Andre Damon

http://www.countercurrents.org/damon110715.htm

Despite significant advances in communications, agriculture and bio-technology over the past 15 years, the overwhelming majority of the world population continues to live in economic privation, according to a report on global incomes published this week by the Pew Research Center. The report, entitled “A Global Middle Class is More Promise than Reality,” classifies 71 percent of the world population as either poor or low-income, subsisting on less than $10 per day. The report concludes that 84 percent lives on less than $20 per day, or $7,300 per year, an income level associated with “deep poverty” in developed countries

The Greek Tragedy! The Left Won The Battle On The Streets,
But Lost The War To Troika In European Parliament
By Xekinima (CWI Greece)

http://www.countercurrents.org/xekinima110715.htm

July 9th was a black day for the Greek left. SYRIZA’s leading team, around Prime Minister A. Tsipras, subordinated itself completely and absolutely to the demands of the Troika lenders. The Greek working class finds itself in a tragic position. They voted for SYRIZA in order to find solutions to their problems and to escape from the Memoranda (austerity packages). Yet after five months in government the only thing that SYRIZA was able to deliver was another catastrophic Memorandum which finishes off the pro-austerity policies of the previous governments of New Democracy and PASOK

Why The Cash Economy In Greece May Be Ending
By Jan Lundberg

Out of necessity, perhaps triggered by an oil supply cut-off, sail power and the connecting of local economies will quickly re-emerge. Perhaps 80% of the once-farmed land on the islands is fallow, due to migration to the cities. This offers potential for local production and short-distance trade. The vast volumes of corporate products shipped today via polluting oil, from thousands of miles away, will wither and even come to a quick end

Across this sinking nation, how many are buoyed by lottery dreams, casino hopes, stock fantasies, increasingly desperate prayers or, as Chuck is convinced in this one instance, miraculous grace? With legal means diminished and magical odds unlikely, many are turning to shadier or bloodier tactics. This month taken care of, there is still the next. Attacked by Goldman Sachs monsters, spaced out children on earth island have reached outer limits of twilight zone

Journalists' Complicity In Hiding Those Guilty For MH17
By Eric Zuesse

Robert Parry headlined on July 9th, “MH-17 Case Slips into Propaganda Fog,” and he wrote: "Many investigative journalists, including myself, have been rebuffed in repeated efforts to get verifiable proof about the case or even informational briefings.”

By Franklin Lamb

http://www.countercurrents.org/lamb110715.htm

The deterioration of conditions of Palestinians in Syria could stop if the rival parties, with support from their regional and international sponsors, could arrive at a political settlement that preserves the Syrian state and its unity as well as the central cause of people of good will in this region. The cause of Palestine

The APSC victory has inspired students in many campuses to start similar study circles and resist hindutva overtures. Another campus of a prestigious Film and Television Institute of India is already aflame in protest against one more such hindutva appointment.
