25-year-old Daniel Weston: Stolen dog reunited with rightful owner thanks to new technology

Stolen dog reunited with rightful owner thanks to new technology

A Nebraska man has been charged with breaking into his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Wilson’s home and stealing the dog they once shared.
25-year-old Daniel Weston (pictured), had broken into the house and stole Deborah’s precious dog as a way to get back at her for dumping him two months earlier.
Police officer Kate Denby, says the ex-girlfriend returned home to find her sliding glass door had been forced open, and her blind and deaf Pointer named Ellie was missing. Convinced it was the doing of her ex, Deborah immediately called the police. However, the police told her that without proof of there would not be much they could do.

Unknown to Daniel though, Deborah had recently fitted Ellie’s collar with a TrackrBravo – a small, coin-sized device which uses GPS technology to track the exact location of valuable items.
“When we confronted Dainel at his parent’s home he denied all knowledge of taking the dog at first,” said Officer Denby.
“However, Ms Wilson had loaned us her iPhone to prove the dog’s whereabouts, and when we showed him the screen which pinpointed the dogs exact location in his parent’s house, he owned up and told the truth.”
Speaking to reporters, Deborah said, “I had purchased a couple of the TrackrBravo devices to attach to my keys and handbag, which I am always misplacing.”
When her ex telephoned her one night and threatened he would take something he loved to ‘hurt her the way she had hurt him’, she attached a spare device to Ellie’s collar as insurance. “I split up with Daniel because he was drinking too much, and when he drank, his behavior became erratic and violent, so I knew what he was capable of.”
“Ellie was a little traumatised by the whole ordeal, but was back to her normal self within a few days”, she said, “I’m just relieved I had the idea to fit a TrackrBravo to her collar, as there was no way I could afford any of the other pet GPS tracking devices, which can cost hundreds of dollars.”
Mr Weston is currently on bail, has been charged with theft and breaking and entering.
