Previous edition: Trump Wins Indiana Primary, Setting Path to GOP Nomination
Ted Cruz suspends presidential campaign after big defeat in Indiana primary | 03 May 2016 | Ted Cruz bowed out of the Republican presidential race Tuesday following a crushing loss to Donald Trump in Indiana, in speech to his supporters. Cruz's exit clears the path for businessman Donald Trump to clinch the GOP nomination. It was a remarkable turn of events in a presidential primary race that seemed destined -- just weeks ago -- to end in a contested convention this summer...In the end, the growing strength of Trump's candidacy and Cruz's own stumbles in the past two weeks were too much for Cruz to overcome.
Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee as humiliated Ted Cruz drops out after defeat in Indiana on historic night for Republicans Ohio Gov. John Kasich [insanely] insists he will stay in the race, despite having just 153 delegates to Trump's 1,047 | 03 May 2016 | Triumphant Donald Trump claimed victory in the Republican presidential contest on Tuesday night, after Ted Cruz dropped out of the race following his defeat in the Indiana primary. The candidate, now virtually assured of being the GOP's standard-bearer for the general election in November, called the Texas senator 'a tough, smart competitor' during a 20-minute victory speech. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus called Trump the 'presumptive GOP nominee' and urged party-wide unity after the property mogul cruised to victory over Cruz in Indiana by a 53 to 37 percent margin.
Sanders wins Indiana, keeping his movement alive | 03 May 2016 | Sen. Bernie Sanders remains on track to lose the Democratic nomination race, but he nonetheless managed to keep his agenda at the center of it with a victory in Indiana over the front-runner, Hillary Clinton. The lone state that voted Tuesday was a test of the continued potency of Sanders's fight as the Vermonter sought to maintain his political revolution as a force with which Clinton will need to wrestle. The win in Indiana will help with that effort.
Sanders Wins Indiana Democratic Primary | 03 May 2016 | Bernie Sanders is the winner of the Democratic primary in Indiana, NBC News projects. But the outcome is all but certain not to impact Hillary Clinton's march to the Democratic nomination. Because Indiana Democrats allocate delegates proportionally, the close race between the two candidates ensures that Sanders will capture only a small net delegate gain, leaving him still well behind Clinton in the race for support. The win for Sanders will, however, refresh the Vermont senator's argument that he must fight through the final Democratic primary contests in June and continue to spread his populist message.
6 more workers sickened by radioactive fumes at Hanford nuclear site | 04 May 2016 | Six more workers at the Hanford nuclear site in Washington state were taken to a medical clinic for exposure to radioactive fumes, bringing the total number of affected workers to 26. Fumes have reportedly been leaking from waste tanks since last week. The six workers were outside the tank farms. Three reported smelling suspicious odors, and three others requested medical evaluations because of odors last week, according to The Tri-City Herald.
Nuclear Waste Leaking at 'American Fukushima' in Northwest | 03 May 2016 | The Hanford Nuclear Reservation sits on the plains of eastern Washington, where the state meets Oregon and Idaho. A total of nine reactors operated at Hanford, and though they are now decommissioned, the reactors have left behind 56 million gallons of radioactive waste...Recent reports indicate new breaches in the tanks holding the nuclear waste. Workers on the site have been sickened too, suggesting that the rush to designate Hanford as a park may have been premature.
NSA to spy on its own staff off-the-clock: official | 03 May 2016 | The US National Security Agency aims to keep a tab on its own staff and their personal computers when out of working hours to ensure they are not participating in illegal activities, including downloading child pornography, or leaking classified information. Kemp Ensor, the NSA director of security, said in a report published on Monday that since national security workers go online when at home, they need to be monitored there as well "That is where we need to be, that's where we need to mine," said Ensor, referring to the time when NSA staff are not at their workplace.
Stealing food not a crime if you are homeless and hungry - Italian court | 03 May 2016 | Stealing a little food should not be considered a crime if you really need it, Italy's highest court has ruled. Ukrainian national Roman Ostriakov was living rough in the northern Italian city of Genoa in 2011 when he was caught trying to steal some cheese and sausage worth 4.07 e_ros ($4.71) from a supermarket.
