United Nations security chiefs have sent their top detection gear to Brazil to help intercept terrorist communications amid concerns ISIS are planning to detonate a radioactive bomb at the Olympics. Counter terrorism director Luiz Alberto Sallaberry said the 'credible threat' of an ISIS attack had increased dramatically in recent months due to the stream of terrorist acts across Europe.
Olympics 'dirty bomb' fears: UN atomic agency helping guard Rio Olympics from ISIS terror attack | 31 July 2016 |Experts from the United Nations have sent state-of-the art detection equipment to Brazil over fears suicidal terror nuts will target the Olympics with a devastating 'dirty bomb'. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has loaned hi-tech radiation monitors – including personal detectors and portable scanners – for use on the ground throughout the Games. Brazil’s anti-terror chief has already admitted there is a ‘credible threat’ ISIS will target Rio next month and said ‘numerous measures’ are being taken to prevent any attack.
Suspicious toolbox sparks controlled explosion inside Rio stadium | 01 Aug 2016 | A controlled explosion has taken place inside the Maracana Stadium in Rio, just days before it is set to host the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. Authorities sent in a robot to investigate a suspicious toolbox on Sunday where rehearsals for the games' curtain-raiser had already begun. When the robot touched the toolbox, it exploded.
Rio 2016: Swimmers need to ingest only three teaspoons of water to be almost certain of contracting a virus | 01 Aug 2016 | Just days ahead of the Olympic Games the waterways of Rio de Janeiro are as filthy as ever, contaminated with raw human sewage teeming with dangerous viruses and bacteria, according to a 16-month-long study commissioned by the Associated Press...The first results of the study published over a year ago showed viral levels at up to 1.7 million times what would be considered worrisome in the United States or Europe. At those concentrations, swimmers and athletes who ingest just three teaspoons of water are almost certain to be infected with viruses that can cause stomach and respiratory illnesses and, more rarely, heart and brain inflammation – although whether they actually fall ill depends on a series of factors including the strength of the individual's immune system.
Olympic athletes told to 'keep your mouth closed' when they swim through faeces-infested water | 31 July 2016 | Athletes competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil have been warned by doctors, engineers, and scientists to keep their mouths shut while participating in activities in the water. Researchers found that many of the beaches in Rio de Janeiro have been long contaminated with raw sewage, household garbage, and even dead bodies, creating hazardous swimming conditions for the 500,000 people expected to descend on the city in August. "Foreign athletes will literally be swimming in human cr-p, and they risk getting sick from all those microorganisms," Rio paediatrician Dr Daniel Becker told the New York Times.
Holy pandemic-quarantine-martial law dry run, Batman! Feds go door-to-door collecting urine samples, 'checking for Zika' | 29 July 2016 | Four individuals in Miami-Dade and Broward counties have been infected with the Zika virus by local mosquitoes, Florida health officials said Friday...Officials believe the local transmission is confined to a small area north of downtown Miami within a single ZIP code. However, local, state and federal health officials are continuing their investigation, which includes going door-to-door to ask residents for urine samples and other information in an effort to determine how many people may be infected. Additional cases are anticipated.
CDC issues historic travel warning over Miami Zika outbreak | 01 Aug 2016 | The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an unprecedented travel warning Monday, advising pregnant women and their partners not to travel to a small community just north of downtown Miami, where Zika is actively circulating. This is the first time the CDC has warned people not to travel to an American neighborhood for fear of catching an infectious disease, according to agency spokesman Tom Skinner. The warning came after 10 additional people in Florida were found to have been infected with Zika virus after being bitten by local mosquitoes, bringing the total to 14.
10 More Non-Travel Related Zika Cases Found in South Florida | 01 Aug 2016 | The state's health department has identified 10 more people who they believe contracted the Zika virus from a mosquitoes in Miami-Dade. This brings the total number of people with locally transmitted Zika to 14. Among the 10 new individuals announced today, six are asymptomatic and were identified from the door-to-door community survey [that's code for pandemic martial law drill] that DOH is conducting. Following the revelation, Governor Rick Scott has called upon the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to activate an Emergency Response Team to assist the state's health department, and other partners, in their investigation, sample collection [aka illegal search and seizure of bodily fluids], and mosquito control efforts.
Gov: 4 Zika cases likely came from Florida mosquitoes | 29 July 2016 | Florida's governor said Friday the state likely has the first cases of Zika transmitted by mosquitoes on the U.S. mainland. Gov. Rick Scott said during a news conference in Orlando that no mosquitoes in the state have tested positive for Zika. But he said one woman and three men in Miami-Dade and Broward counties likely contracted the virus through mosquito bites. More than 1,650 Zika infections have been reported in the U.S., but the four patients in Florida would be the first not linked to travel outside the U.S. mainland.
Attorney General Schuette charges 6 state workers over Flint's contaminated water | 29 July 2016 | Attorney General Bill Schuette on Friday filed charges against six state employees for misconduct in office related to their alleged roles in the lead contamination of Flint's drinking water. Genesee County Judge Nathaniel C. Perry III authorized charges Friday morning against three employees in the Department of Health and Human Services and three employees in the Department of Environmental Quality, including fired municipal water chief Liane Shekter Smith.
1,000s Turkish forces surround NATO's Incirlik air base for 'inspection' amid rumors of coup attempt | 31 July 2016 | Some 7,000 armed police with heavy vehicles have surrounded and blocked the Incirlik air base in Adana used by NATO forces, already restricted in the aftermath of a failed coup. Unconfirmed reports say troops were sent to deal with a new coup attempt. Hurriyet reported earlier that Adana police had been tipped off about a new coup attempt, and forces were immediately alerted. The entrance to the base was closed off.
Texas allows guns in college classrooms under new law | 01 Aug 2016 | A new law went into effect in Texas on Monday that allows certain students to bring guns into classrooms, with supporters saying it could prevent mass shootings and critics saying the measure will endanger safety on campuses. The so-called state "campus carry" law allows people 21 and older with a concealed handgun license to carry pistols in classrooms and buildings throughout public colleges, including the University of Texas system, one of the nation's largest with an enrollment of more than 214,000 students.
U.S. court strikes down North Carolina voter ID law | 29 July 2016 | A U.S. appeals court on Friday struck down a North Carolina law that required voters to show photo identification when casting ballots, ruling that it intentionally discriminated against African-American residents. The ruling, a victory for rights advocates that will enable thousands of people to vote more easily, is also likely to be seen as a boost for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton going into the election on Nov. 8. The court's decision also canceled provisions of the law that scaled back early voting, prevented residents from registering and voting on the same day, and eliminated the ability of voters to vote outside their assigned precinct.
Standing near foreign prime minister, Obama says Trump 'unfit' for presidency | 02 Aug 2016 | President Barack Obama offered one of his sharpest denunciations of Donald Trump to date Tuesday, declaring the Republican nominee entirely unfit to serve as president and lambasting Republicans for sticking by their nominee. "The Republican nominee is unfit to serve as president," Obama said at a White House news conference with the Prime Minister of Singapore, in the White House East Room. "He keeps on proving it." The Trump campaign responded by going after the Democratic nominee as well as the President.
Trump refuses to support Paul Ryan, John McCain in upcoming Republican primaries | 02 Aug 2016 | Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is refusing to back House Speaker Paul D. Ryan [Social Security-cutting, TPP dirt-bag #1] in his upcoming primary election, saying in an interview Tuesday that he is "not quite there yet" in endorsing his party’s top-ranking elected official. Trump also said he was not supporting Sen. John McCain [scum-bag #2] in his primary in Arizona, and he singled out Sen. Kelly Ayotte [fraud #3] as a weak and disloyal leader in New Hampshire, a state whose presidential primary Trump won handily. With Ryan's Wisconsin primary scheduled for next Tuesday, Trump praised the House speaker's underdog opponent, Paul Nehlen, for running "a very good campaign."
Donald Trump Reaffirms Support for Warmer Relations With Russia | 01 Aug 2016 | Donald J. Trump unabashedly trumpeted his support for warmer relations with Russia at a campaign rally here on Monday night, acidly mocking opponents who say he is too friendly to Vladimir V. Putin, the country's strongman president. Mr. Trump, who has been under fire from Democrats and some conservative national security leaders for his accommodating stance toward Mr. Putin, cast his supportive remarks as a matter of practical necessity. By aligning itself with Russia, he said, the United States could more easily take on the Islamic State and other terrorist groups. "If we could get Russia to help us get rid of ISIS -- if we could actually be friendly with Russia -- wouldn't that be a good thing?" Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, said. Repeating the question moments later, he won loud applause from the crowd: "If we could get along with Russia, wouldn't that be a good thing, instead of a bad thing?"
Khan specializes in visa programs accused of selling U.S. citizenship | 01 Aug 2016 | The [attorney] father of a Muslim-American soldier killed in Iraq who is caught up in a war of words with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is an immigration lawyer who specializes in a highly controversial program accused of letting immigrants buy their way into the U.S. Khizr M. Khan's website notes that he works to help clients with the E-2 and EB-5 programs that let overseas investors buy into U.S. companies and also provides green cards for family members...The EB-5 program has been caught up in multiple scandals and critics are pressing Congress to kill it.
Trump: 'I'm afraid the election is going to be rigged' | 01 Aug 2016 | Donald Trump fears he may lose in November because of the "rigged" political system he's been railing against for months. "I'm afraid the election is going to be rigged, I have to be honest," Trump told supporters during a mid-afternoon rally in Columbus, Ohio. Trump has blasted political leaders for creating what he claims is a corrupt and "crooked" system under which career politicians have manipulated certain rules and deliberately lied to voters in order to remain in power.
Hedge-Fund Money: $48.5 Million for Hillary Clinton, $19,000 for Donald Trump --Political donations from people at hedge funds have vaulted this election, and far more has gone to the Democratic nominee than to the Republican | 29 July 2016 | Hedge funds are playing a far bigger role in 2016 than in past elections--and Hillary Clinton has been the single biggest beneficiary. Owners and employees of hedge funds have made 122.7 million in campaign contributions this election cycle, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics--more than twice what they gave in the entire 2012 cycle...The data show seven financial firms alone have generated nearly 48.5 million for groups working on Mrs. Clinton's behalf. The total for Donald Trump: About 19,000.
Senior Democratic National Committee officials resign - DNC | 02 Aug 2016 | Three senior officials with the Democratic National Committee have resigned, the DNC said on Tuesday, amid a shake-up following a hack of thousands of emails that embarrassed the party just as it staged its national convention last week. The resignations of DNC Chief Executive Officer Amy Dacey, Communications Director Luis Miranda and Chief Financial Officer Brad Marshall were announced by interim Chairwoman Donna Brazile.
NSA has Clinton's deleted emails, whistleblower claims | 02 Aug 2016 | The National Security Agency has Hillary Clinton's deleted emails, and the FBI could access them if it wanted to, a former NSA official claimed in a radio interview. William Binney, an architect of the NSA's surveillance program who became a whistleblower when he resigned from the agency in 2001, made the claim on Aaron Klein's Investigative Radio Sunday. Klein also reported on Binney's comments for Breitbart dot com. Binney pointed to 2011 testimony by then-FBI Director Robert Mueller before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in which Mueller said the agency has access to "sophisticated, searchable databases" to track down terrorists.

The latest attack, which was disclosed to Reuters on Friday, follows reports of two other hacks on the Democratic National Committee and the party's fundraising committee for candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives. The U.S. Department of Justice national security division is investigating whether cyber hacking attacks on Democratic political organizations threatened U.S. security, sources familiar with the matter said on Friday.
Donald Trump Calls Comments About Russia and Clinton Emails 'Sarcastic' | 28 July 2016 | Facing a torrent of criticism over his comments seeming to condone the hacking of Hillary Clinton's emails by Russian intelligence services, Donald J. Trump and his allies on Thursday sought to tamp down his remarks, with Mr. Trump saying he was simply being "sarcastic." In public interviews and private conversations on Thursday, Mr. Trump; his running mate, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana; and campaign staff members contended that Mr. Trump was being facetious when, during a news conference on Wednesday, he said he hoped Russia would be able to find Mrs. Clinton's missing emails. "Of course I'm being sarcastic," Mr. Trump told "Fox and Friends" Thursday morning as his aides accused the news media of misconstruing his remarks.
Donald Trump Calls on Russia to Find Hillary Clinton's Missing Emails | 27 July 2016 | If Mr. Trump is serious in his call for Russian hacking or exposing Mrs. Clinton's emails, he would be urging a power often hostile to the United States to violate American law by breaking into a private computer network. He would also be contradicting the Republican platform, adopted last week in Cleveland, saying that cyberespionage "will not be tolerated," and promising to "respond in kind and in greater magnitude" to all Chinese and Russian cyberattacks.
Bernie Delegates Say DNC Is Hiring Seat Fillers to Create Appearance of Unity | 28 July 2016 | Delegates for Bernie Sanders have spoken out against the DNC for hiring seat fillers to replace protesting Sanders supporters. While many Sanders delegates were outside staging protests during the convention Wednesday, every seat in the arena was filled, giving the impression that the delegates had unified around their nominee, Hillary Clinton. Several Sanders delegates have posted videos claiming that many of those in the delegates' seats were not delegates at all, but seat fillers paid for by the DNC.
Medical researcher at US Army institute among 16 victims of deadliest hot air balloon crash in US history | 31 July 2016 | Investigators are still working to identify the 16 victims in the worst hot air balloon crash in US history, but friends and family have taken to social media to share their loss. Alfred 'Skip' Nichols, the owner and pilot of the company Heart of Texas, died when his hot air balloon broke out in flames and crashed in Lockhart, Texas, on Saturday. Matt Rowan, a professor with the US Army Institute of Surgical Research, was also identified along with his wife Sunday Rowan, by grieving family members. Matt worked as a professor in the burns unit at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research, and believed his work would help soldiers, his brother Joshua, an Iraq veteran, told NBC.
Fiery crash of hot air balloon kills 16 in central Texas | 30 July 2016 | A hot air balloon burst into flames over central Texas on Saturday after apparently striking power lines and plunged into a field, killing all 16 people aboard in one of the deadliest such accidents on record, police and eyewitnesses said. The Federal Aviation Administration said the fiery crash occurred at about 7:40 a.m. (8.40 a.m. ET) near Lockhart, a town about 30 miles (50 km) south of Austin, the Texas capital...The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that 16 people were dead.
