MY OWN CONTRIBUTIONS TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS - In that our organization is supported by contributions I feel it’s only right to contribute to other organizations as well. I am not the biggest donor out there to be sure. My contributions do not exceed $20. However I always contribute on an ongoing monthly basis. I don’t believe that tossing an occasional contribution at an organization has any real chance of supporting the work that they do over the long term. To have a lasting effect I feel it’s essential to make an ongoing commitment. So I go the monthly route, even if the dollars figure is modest, and in my case it is. I like environmental/preservation organizations like GreenPeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Center for Biological Diversity, Sea Shepard and others as well. I also support the ACLU and the Human Rights Campaign’s LGBT Workplace initiative. All part of an alternative non-corporate economy. Marc Ash, Founder Reader Supported News

Fired by the Trump campaign, Corey Lewandowski quickly relocated to CNN, where he distinguished himself this week by reviving the birther canard. (photo: John Lamparski/Getty Images)
Margaret Talbot, The New Yorker
Talbot writes: "Lewandowski's signal quality is a kind of unsmiling, nonironic loyalty that admits of no countermanding or even complicating detail; he's like the ultimate faithful retainer, still fixedly serving his master as the mansion crumbles around him."

Donald Trump's Electoral Map Is Shrinking
Jim Newell, Slate
Newell writes: "Trump has so few Electoral College paths-i.e., he's losing the election-because he is an unqualified, ungrounded, and omnidirectionally offensive presidential candidate. If you look at the narrowing of his map and the still-scant post-convention state polls, you can see early signs of how and to whom that's playing out."

Renee Zellweger | We Can Do Better
Renee Zellweger, Reader Supported News
Zellweger writes: "Although we have evolved to acknowledge the importance of female participation in determining the success of society, and take for granted that women are standard bearers in all realms of high profile position and influence, the double standard used to diminish our contributions remains, and is perpetuated by the negative conversation which enters our consciousness every day as snark entertainment."

6 Ways the Rio Olympics Are Failing on Sustainability
Kate Yoder, Grist
Yoder writes: "Brazil wooed the International Olympic Committee with promises of sustainability when it made its bid in 2009 for Rio to host the games, but it hasn't followed through on those pledges. From waters teeming with pathogens to transportation troubles, the Rio Olympics are looking like a hot mess."
