Transparency In State Government

A regular reader forwarded this with a note Middleboro needs to see where our tax dollars are spent as well --
.
I can think of plenty of good reasons for lawmakers to get behind MASSPIRG's Transparency.gov campaign. (If you missed my previous e-mail, this is our new campaign to create a Web site with a searchable version of the state budget, which would track revenue and expenditures, and help citizens check corruption and promote efficiency.)
.
But I want to know: In your opinion, what's the best argument for our Transparency.gov campaign?
.
When Deirdre Cummings, MASSPIRG's legislative director, heads to Beacon Hill next week to persuade members of the Legislature to get behind the Transparency.gov campaign, I want to make sure she's armed with the best arguments.
.
Deirdre and I put together a list of the best arguments we could think of for Beacon Hill to create a searchable version of the state budget online.
.
We put our top 10 online, and I want to ask you to choose the best -- or even add your own.
.
Deirdre will share your answers as she lobbies lawmakers and testifies before the key committees.
.
Whatever your top choice, I'm sure you'll agree that, in this day and age, there's no good reason that Massachusetts citizens shouldn't be able to log onto the Web and track down exactly how the government is spending our tax dollars.
.
And you'd think that after everything that has happened in state politics over the last year, Beacon Hill would be looking for a way to shore up confidence among voters -- and more transparency in state government could help make that happen.
.
Help us make the case.
.
