MAJOR OFF-SHORE WIND AUCTION

The Dirty Energy Koch Brothers have generously funded the Cape Wind opposition...Were it not for their support, Cape Cod would be enjoying pollution-free Wind Energy NOW.

MAJOR OFF-SHORE WIND AUCTION:
164,750 acres 9 miles south of Cape & Islands

The federal government will conduct its first auction for off-shore wind areas, as it offers 164,750 acres 9.2 miles south of Rhode Island, and off the coast of Cuttyhunk and Martha’s Vineyard. The areas are divided into two large tracts, and collectively have the potential to generate 3,395 megawatts and power 1 million homes, according to the Department of the Interior.

****Cape Wind, which was first proposed more than a decade ago and is currently gathering investors, will have a maximum production of 454 megawatts. “This is history in the making as we mark yet another major milestone in the President’s all-of-the-above energy strategy,” said Interior Secretary Sally Jewell. “Today we are moving closer to tapping into the enormous potential offered by offshore wind to create jobs, increase our sustainability, and strengthen our nation’s competitiveness in this new energy frontier. As we experience record domestic oil and gas development, we are also working to ensure that America leads the world in developing the energy of the future.”

The Bureau of Ocean Management cleared nine companies as “legally, technically and financially qualified to participate.” Those companies are Deepwater Wind New England LLC, EDF Renewable Development, Inc., Energy Management, Inc., Fishermen’s Energy, LLC, IBERDROLA RENEWABLES, Inc., Neptune Wind, LLC, Sea Breeze Energy, LLC, U.S. Mainstream Renewable Power (Offshore) Inc., and US Wind Inc.

The auction will take place online and could last more than one day. New Bedford and Kingstown, R.I., are both seeking to become staging areas for offshore wind production, and New Bedford broke ground on a massive pier known as South Terminal this spring. (Wednesday, 10 a.m.)
