Save A Life!

Before adding a furry member to your family, please check with shelters and rescue groups.

Most animals in shelters have been family pets.
Most will be euthanized, frequently by gassing.

Save a Life!

Adoption and transportation information available on links.

Please support spay and neuter programs to end this tragedy.

Two year old Midnight was surrendered to the Manhattan Center because his owners were moving and he couldn't go with them He's a little afraid, a little fearful and he needs some help becoming part of a family again. Please share

DO NOT call the shelter and say you are adopting unless you truly intend on physically going to the shelter to adopt the dog. It ties up phones lines and is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone for someone who is purposely not going to show up. They need every free second of their time to answer calls, assist actual adopters, process intakes, and care for the animals. More importantly, they will note the dog’s file that an adopter is en route which will prevent an actual adopter from saving the dog. This is considered a "fake adoption" hold and that is how dogs fall through the cracks and end up being killed.

For more information on a particular dog, email adoption@nycacc.org but ONLY if serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go unnoticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions.

Rusty

I hear so many times "but you can't find XX breed in a shelter". Well, Rusty is a perfect example of how many highly sought after purebreds are sitting in shelters not only in Ohio but across the country. This guy was brought in as a stray and his family didn't come looking for him - so now he sits in a cage until someone stops by to save his life. So for those that don't think you can find a yorkie or a yorkie mix in a shelter - here is your chance to save a life

Bear

Bear has had a horribly rough life. This baby was brought into the shelter as part of a cruelty case when he was left outside during the heat wave with no water for 3 days. Fortunately, a concerned citizen saw Bear's plight and contacted the pound where he could be saved. This precious boy is thought to be only 7 months old and has a ton of energy to burn and loves receiving attention. The shelter writes that Bear is extremely smart and with the right training, he could learn commands and tricks very quickly. This baby is recommended to go to a home WITHOUT small children until he has some training under his belt. He has not shown any signs of aggression but does constantly jump wanting attention. If you are interested in saving Bear, please contact the Holmes Co. Dog Warden's office at: 330-674-6301
