Big Polluters want deregulation leaving you with no protection.....

The West Virginia chemical spill defines the problems with lack of regulation and oversight.
None of us is safe from the environmental destruction of Big Corporations.

Please add your name and speak out to protect the environment.....it could be yours!

Take action to protect the water of West Virginia
When will the fossil fuel companies learn that we can't drink oil, or coal waste? I was furious when I learned that a chemical company called Freedom Industries spilled 7,500 gallons of coal waste into West Virginia's Elk River, poisoning the drinking water of 300,000 people and causing hundreds to fall ill.*

This disaster is even more frustrating because it was so predictable: the chemical plant that spilled was located just a mile and a half away from the source of drinking water for five counties.** The coal industry knew they were putting people in danger, and they did it anyway. If you are as angry about this as I am, please sign our West Virginia friend Johanna's petition to tell the federal government to enforce the rules that should protect their water.

This is what all-of-the-above, deregulated drilling and mining looks like, and unfortunately we haven't won the "war on coal" yet. The coal industry is polluting and destroying West Virginia and the rest of our planet every day. This spell in Elk River is just a dramatic example. We need to act now to protect the people and the waters of West Virginia, and stop the coal industry before they spill again. Click here to sign our friends' MoveOn petition to demand that the Obama administration take over protecting West Virginia's water from the coal companies.

The fact that a coal company could be that close to our drinking water shows that the regulation of coal in West Virginia is a sick joke. If the state can't protect its own water, we need the federal government to rein in these dangerous energy companies. You know that Big Coal, like Big Oil, is hell-bent on the destruction of the planet. Just as there is no safe way to burn coal without destroying the climate, there is no safe way to mine coal without destroying the land and water around it. If you agree with me and our friends on the ground in West Virginia, can you sign to make the federal government take the side of the planet against companies like Freedom Industries?

P.S. That's a real photo of our friends' sink in West Virginia, and volunteers like Johanna are still working day and night to hand-deliver safe drinking water. Please consider donating to the Keeper of the Mountains Foundation, one of the many groups doing work to get help to the people who need it most during this crisis. Click here to pitch in.
