Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth is back online. The plant experienced an automatic shutdown Saturday afternoon when a single main steam isolation valve (MSIV) closed. The reactor was a full power when the unplanned shutdown occurred.
According to Pilgrim's Senior Communications Specialist Lauren Burm, all other systems were working as they should.
The plant remained offline until Tuesday night when it was reconnected to the grid, Burm's office said in an email. The shutdown was caused by a broken instrument control line that feeds the MSIV, the email said. The line was repaired before the plant was brought back online.
As of 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the plant was back at full power, Burm's office said. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's daily power reactor status report showed Pilgrim at 82% on Wednesday and 1% on Tuesday.
The last unplanned shutdown, or scram, at the Plymouth plant occurred in May.
