Northwestern University Students Spray-Paint Swastika And ‘Trump’ In Chapel
Two students are accused of spray painting racist and homophobic messages along with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s name inside a nondenominational chapel on Northwestern University’s campus, according to the Chicago Tribune.
A Cook County judge on Saturday called the acts of vandalism ‘disgusting.’
“These allegations are disgusting to me,” Judge Peggy Chiampas said as stared directly at Anthony Morales, 19, and Matthew Kafker, 18, during a bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
The two freshmen students allegedly entered the nondenominational chapel on the school’s Evanston campus around 12:45 a.m. Friday, according to the Daily News.
According to police, the freshmen vandalized one hallway with a slur directed toward African-Americans and a swastika. The students moved on to another part of the chapel writing a slur for gay people and spray-painted lines over photos of Muslim students. The two students then drew penises on the chapel’s organ and over the word “God” in a hallway.
Morales and Kafker are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and charged with institutional vandalism, hate crime to a place of worship, and criminal damage to property for the spray-painted messages at the Alice Millar Chapel earlier this week.
Both defendants remained silent during the court hearing.
Northwestern President Morton Schapiro strongly condemned the graffiti, calling it racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic, according to ABC 7.
In a statement, Schapiro said, “This disgusting act of hatred violates the deepest values and core commitments of our University and is an affront to us all.”
It’s only going to get worse.
Recently at the GOP front-runner’s in Chicago, a tea partier was seen in a picture proudly giving the Nazi salute. In December, Trump supporters besieged a black protester while yelling, “Light that mother fucker on fire!” As the protester was being dragged away, someone yelled out, “Sieg Heil!”
This is who the candidate is attracting. After each incident Trump says something about the anger in this country and adds that his supporters love America.
