Associate Town Counsel
The town of Brookline is seeking a candidate to fill the position ofAssociate Town Counsel. Associate Counsel works under the supervision of the town counsel and is responsible for varied and complex legal duties. The Associate provides counsel to a variety of Boards and Commissions and handles litigation in the state and federal courts as well as administrative agencies. Membership in the Massachusetts Bar and admission to practice before the United States District Court is required. A minimum of five years’ experience in municipal law and general litigation. Candidates with a background representing police and fire personnel in disciplinary and civil rights matters is preferred. Knowledge of civil service law is also preferred. Some trial experience required. Salary range: $88,349-$94,809. Excellent benefits package available including membership in the State pension system.

Accountant
Town of Wayland
The town of Wayland seeks a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Accountant. Under the direction of the finance director, responsible for day-to-day accounting activities, including preparing, reviewing and entering all journal entries and reconciling accounts; maintaining all town accounting records, preparing annual financial statements, Schedule A and other required reports to the DOR. Position assists in the oversight of the financial management software, MUNIS and prepares various excel spreadsheets as well as other assigned duties. Qualifications: B.S. in accounting or related field, several years of professional accounting experience, municipal accounting experience preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and MS Office is required. Experience with MUNIS software is highly desirable. Salary range: $46,918-$61,231 plus excellent benefit package.

Assistant Assessor
Town of Easton
Position is available July 1, 2008. The town of Easton is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Assessor. Minimum qualifications bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of valuation and administrative experience in an assessors office; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. The responsibilities of the position include complex technical, administrative, supervisory work relating to the planning and management of the assessing department and in the appraisal of town-wide property, in accordance with state and local statutes. The position reports directly to the town administrator and the policy direction of the board of assessors and in accordance with applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and town bylaws. The salary range for this position is $63,132-$89,862, depending on qualifications and experience in addition to an excellent benefits package.

Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer
Town of Weston
The town of Weston (population 10,999) is seeking applications for the position of Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer. This position oversees the town’s inspectional services and serves as the code enforcement officer. The position reports to the town manager and is responsible for the inspection of all construction as well as the enforcement and interpretation of the Massachusetts building and electrical codes, local zoning bylaws and regulations, and other applicable codes relating to building construction and design. Minimum qualifications: state certification as an inspector of buildings or building commissioner is required. Must possess or be able to obtain a state Construction Supervisor license within two years of appointment. Five years’ experience as a construction supervisor. Starting salary up to $68,511.

Fire Chief
City of Amesbury
The city of Amesbury, Mass. (population: approximately 17,000), is seeking to recruit a new Fire Chief to lead a 33-member department. Salary range: $82,000-$95,000 DOQ, plus benefits. The city will consider negotiating an employment contract with the selected candidate. The Fire Chief is appointed by the mayor and reports to the mayor. Professional leadership, managerial skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. The Fire Chief is responsible for department services including traditional fire suppression and prevention, ambulance services and emergency management. This is not a learning position. The ideal candidate will have five years’ experience in fire administration preferably as a deputy in a comparable setting with considerable fire/EMS experience and appropriate education. The Amesbury fire department is unionized so familiarity with labor relations is key.

Town Accountant
Town of Raynham
Town AccountantTown of RaynhamThe town of Raynham, Mass., (12,500 population: budget $27 million) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Town Accountant. The Town Accountant works under the general supervision and administrative direction of the board of selectmen/town administrator. Responsibilities include financial monitoring of the budget; maintaining comprehensive financial records; generating required periodic reports; assisting with annual budget preparation and supervision of accounting department staff. Thorough knowledge of UMAS, GAAP, and GASB regulations, knowledge of Data National accounting software, and a working knowledge of applicable Massachusetts General Laws are necessary. The applicant should have strong communication skills. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, plus a minimum of three years’ municipal accounting experience. Massachusetts Governmental Accounting Certificate preferred. Salary range: $45,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience.
